  1. See if you can borrow a couple extended magazines. You won't really get the feel for limited on a long course unless you can have at least 19 in the gun. A magazine extension or preferably 2 won't run you that much, but if you can borrow for a match or 2 it's even cheaper 16 in the gun to start will be different and if you drop a lot of points in Production, shooting major will help there. If you are a better shooter than those you refer to as the big boys, you will run with them just fine. Most stages will have ample opportunity to reload earlier, but 19-21 in the gun to start can open up options on some stages that are not otherwise practical.
  2. Biggest thing for USPSA is to never stop moving. Easier said than done but if you watch a GM shoot they are in constant motion throughout the course.
  3. Haven't you heard, Black sucks, it now has to be FDE or Multi-Cam. I also agree with Matt, Gun handling is what is learned through USPSA or IDPA, not tactics. Either sport teaches you to shoot faster while maintaining accuracy and keep the gun running. Tactics also change too much per situation to have a set of rules that dictate whether you used good tactics or not, your ability can do the same thing in some situations. As to the OP, I think maybe we are getting off on too much of a tangent. Changing the names of what divisions we use is going to be a double edged sword. Keep tactical maybe we will bring out more people who like that word. Change it to Limited, maybe we can bring in more mainstream people. Maybe we should go to the turtle targets in USPSA too. I don't know if really matters as far as a numbers standpoint. If you try to appease anyone you will make someone else angry in the end your market share will most likely remain unchanged. Maybe it's worth a try, maybe not. It's just a word, but words mean different things to different people.
  4. Another vote for CED. Now that I found the sensitivity adjustment on the Pocket Pro 2 the club has it works fine too.
  5. Tactical is the most overused word in the firearms world. For that reason alone I think it should be renamed . Honestly, what else would/should we rename it, Patrol? Limited sounds good to me, oh wait USPSA already did that. Who cares what it's called really, I kind of like it, being LE it helps to explain it to the guys I need to ask time off from
  6. I use slide glide on the hammer/sear interface and the bottom of the BCG where it slides over the hammer. Frog lube or Mobile 1 syn for everything else (really starting to like Frog Lube). Main thing is to keep it lubed, when they get dry they seem to cause the most problems, especially using light buffers and BCGs. You will know when you go too far, your glasses will be covered in oil . Be careful using grease on moving parts when the temps start to drop, I can't use even slide glide light on my limited gun in the winter.
  7. We have to remember that although "we" mauy know a lot of people that have these, "we" is a pretty small part of the shooting world. The one I ordered is supposed to be here this month, but time will tell, I may just get the 4.25 and call it a day....
  8. Unless you are going to want to shoot an iron sight division later you will eventually need a scope anyway. My suggestion is to get a scope and put it on your 6.8. Check the classifieds here and your local shooters to see if anyone has one they can part with, maybe even loan you for a bit. The scope that you have is going to be a hinderance. If you have to buy I recommend the Burris MTAC and thier PEPR mount. Another option is to get a set of the offset irons and use them for the closer targets. As stated above, 6.8 isn't going to be very competitive, but if it's what you have, shoot it. Just to try it out a couple times go as inexpensive as you can, while still maintaining decent equipment that you can sell at a little loss or repurpose for something else if you don't like 3 gun (not like 3gun... ).
  9. Get it, try it and change what you dont like. I would agree on getting the standard grips if that's an option. I really liked the S&A mag guide on my single stacks, but I just picked up a 40 trojan from the classifieds here and it's got the infinity mag well, that thing is really nice, but old style McCormick mags wont work. If you already shoot USPSA you probably know what you like as far as sights. The nice thing about a 1911 is they are extrememly customizable. As for mags, I am still kind of a newbie, but guys seem to have luck with all of the good mags. Some guns like different mags than others, I would start with Tripp and/or Wilson, maybe a couple of each and see which ones you and/or your gun like better. If one of them doesn't work in your gun, you can sell then here at not much of a loss if they aren't abused.
  10. While I respect Alaskapopo, I do not consider him the final arbiter on all things rifle. ( I would imagine he doesn't either) Yes, he has "lots" of posts and if that is your criteria for expert opinion and one to be used to make a point, so be it. While it was not specified within your text, I made the mistake of assuming you were referring to steel cased ammunition. For that I retract my question Carry on Tar. Patrick (I gotta get my post count up so people think I know something) Kelley I think what they are talking about is that most steel cased (Russian e.g. Wolf, Tula etc) ammo also has a "bimetal jacket" that contains steel. I don't know how hard the steel is or how it affects barrel life, but I know for a fact it severely limits steel target life and is not normally allowed at 3 gun matches for that reason. It makes sense to me that if it's harder on the target it will be harder on the bore. Until now I had never really thought of it that way and thought people were being overly cautious about the steel case itself. Now that I learned my one thing for the day, can I go back to bed?
  11. Just check out the Kruger website. The holographic sight and the 2-8 are independently adjustable. It will be an interesting ruling when it happens but I would put my money on Open only. However, I just read on a different thread about super hi cap magazines Mr. Horner say something to the effect that open is more of a shotgun and pistol thing than a rifle thing. I didn't see a weight on thier website, but SWFA had it listed at <30 ounces. Hmmm, is the future of 3gun scoes here?
  12. I thought it was hilarious, but it seemed meant for a pretty narrow age range. The thearter here does a $3 special for the last night a movie will be there. I would have rented instead otherwise. Parents be warned, not a kids movie in the slightest.
  13. I know several guys that have them, they seem to like them and they are pretty inexpensive. I would go with the Safariland 6320 instead if you are looking for a retention holster for competition thoguh.
  14. I think he posted the same on the huge 930 thread. I wonder if you could use a coarse thread screw and pack the inside with JB weld or something. OK that's pretty bad... I saw a pic of an oversize release on a shotgun that may work. I cant remember what gun it was but it was a sheet metal type thing that attached to the reciever toward the mag tube.
  15. WOW, 5.2 of 231 is the starting load!? Please check your data, it looks like 4.2 is starting load according to Hodgdon website. I know its a different bullet but still a 230. I guess I am late to the party, but wanted to throw that out there. 5.1 under a 230 bear creek made over 180 PF at L-10 nationals a few years ago.
  16. The never ending arms race can be heck on your pocket book! The guys that run the heck out of cobbled together (albeit reliable) whatever will almost always beat the pants off of guys with $4k guns with $2k scopes that don't practice. Can more magnification help, for long shots especially with less than satellar vision, most likely. Will a guy with a 1-4 that knows his equipment beat a guy with a better rifle and scope that doesn't know his equipment, yep. Better equipment can and usually does help to some extent, but ability is almost always the deciding factor.
  17. Give the AMU a call and ask about the 30 Gremlin . Still uses the small frames and definately makes major. I heard somewhere someone was selling dies for it, anyone here know anything?
  18. +1, Wild bunch would be the only way to run it. There is a cops v. cowboy match that is a lot of fun to shoot once a year, they do 6 stages, 3 cowboy type stages and three regular 3 gun type stages (80 yards max for rifle). Everyone only loads five in the pistol, everything is virginia count, all steel or simulated steel (cardboard cut/painted to the same size as the cowboy steel, .223 on thin steel targets at 10-20 yards severely limits the life of a steel target). All cowboy matches are 3 gun, well, really 4 gun matches, they are lots of fun, none of the shots are very challenging, it's all about speed more like steel challenge. If your club is going to be all about including everyone, let the cowboys design a couple stages and you design a couple stages. I just shot a Wounded Warrior Benifit match that had a Wild bunch category, they put cowboy steel at a closer distance on the long range stage, but everything else was the same. 300 yards with buckhorn sights on a 44 mag lever gun ain't for the weak.
  19. I searched for Optisan and only found one reference, but not a review. A buddy just got one and paid $150 with the mount from one of the big online optics dealers. Glass seemed pretty clear, the red illumination was actually daylight visible (barely), capped target turret resettable to zero for elevation. Circle dot reticle does not need illumination, reference lines at 3, 6 and 9 O'clock. The one piece mount didn't look so hot rings weren't very round, kinda airsoft like. I was thinking of maybe using one on a 22 to replicate when I switch to a 1-4. Has anyone used them at all? Whats the scoop?
  20. I would get a second sling. I load weak hand and felt that the PG gave me a bit more control during reloading, but I prefer the standard for actually shooting. I am running the standard on my newer 930 and like it just fine.
  21. V-tac makes an adapter that fits over the buttstock and mounts the sling on top of the stock. Choate makes a PG stock that is LOP adjustable, but with spacers, not like an AR Carbine stock.
  22. Unfortunately that5 seems to be a fairly common issue. Somewhere on one of the 930 threads there is a fix. Or you can send it back to Mossberg and let them deal with it.
  23. Croom has a good thought. Something else that comes to mind after you explaining about running it through all three uprights is that maybe they aren't lining up perfectly after the install. Maybe find the correct size drill bit and run it through the FO holes. I would do it by hand only though. Just another thought.
  24. +1, A couple other things, I just had that start happening and pulled things apart to look at them. I had an Infinity trigger installed with stock STI internals, the ball on the back of the trigger bow actually wore a groove into the disconnector. If you have all SV internals, probably not an issue though. Try the sear spring bend, you may want to get a new one, one with the four fingers. Supposedly they will hold the sear better under shock. But I don't really know for sure, wait for someone with more knowledge than I to pipe in.
  25. I want everything from stand and shoot all the way to unloaded gun in a locked briefcase with magazines placed on barrels while hands are in a vat of ice water while naked . A good mix of starts is where it's at I think, keeps things interesting. The more people complain the more I think they secretly like it.
