    The UPS Store

I am a FFL holder and I stopped using UPS when their hub told me they wouldn't accept a package from me (a gun) that I was shipping back to the owner after working on it, even though they had shipped it to me!! They told me it had to go to another FFL holder. I spent about 2 days exhanging e-mail with their "customer service" and was told that it was a misunderstanding and that they had it all worked out with the hub. I asked them to have someone from the hub to call me so I wouldn't make another trip down to them and not get the package shipped. I got the call a day after they committed that I would hear from someone and I got the same old "...only to a FFL holder". That's the same day I signed up with FedEx and haven't looked back!
  2. Congrats Rich!!! I had the "pleasure" of having my own special agent assigned to an audit many years ago that didn't turn out nearly as well! So I guess this means I won't be seeing your "rat" SV any time soon!!!!
  3. That looks like a Brazo's Micro dot. He makes them to fit a SV dovetail. No machining required!!
  4. I'd try to find the sight in the dovetail size that your slide is already cut for. The SV/STI .300x.060x60 deg. is the same as a Heinie, if thats a factory cut in your SV slide. Just about everybody makes sights for that cut. I don't think you can move the center of the new cut any more than .015 to the rear or remnants of the old cut will be there. One of the big problems, which you are discovering is the distance from the center of the dovetail to the front of the sight and how that matches up with the slide. I think XRe is probably right, or you may have to get it welded up, re-cut and refinished. Kinda spendy. It sounds like you have a mill and the required cutters. You could cut the dovetail on the sight to match your slide. There should be plenty of material to get it where it needs to be to fit the dovetail. It still may not be positioned correctly in relation to the front of the slide, though.
  5. Mitch, you're most welcome!! I'm glad you are closer to figuring out what you like!

    The BOX

    Dimensions from the rule book: Yes, handgun with empty magazine inserted must fit wholly within a box with internal dimensions of 8 15/16” x 6” x 1 5/8” (tolerance +1/16”, -0”) (8.938” x 6” x 1.625”) (227.01mm x 152.40mm x 41.28mm) I would want a box that was the maximum allowable. That looks like 9" x 6 1/16" X 1 11/16"

    The BOX

For what it's worth, I have been talking with my Area Director about this and a scale and the mag guage. He told me that it was discussed at the Board meeting last weekend and USPSA intends to have boxes, a scale, with check weight, as well as the mag guage available thru the USPSA Store. They are currently in the process of selecting a vendor to build the boxes and selecting a scale. I don't have any idea as to a timeline for availability.
  9. For what it's worth, there is nothing about stage 11 that conforms to the rules regarding Virginia count. 9.2.3.2 Virginia Count must use paper targets exclusively, and must only be used for Standard Exercises, Classifiers or Short Courses.
  10. I ordered 5 of them from Tripp right after the first of the year and finally shot them last night. Ran like a champ!
  11. For what it's worth I got an e-mail from Dave Thomas today that opened with "Merry Christmas"!
  12. Or you can put the SV base onto the Para bow, similiar to how some are putting SV bases on STI bows. It's not that difficult. -JPL
  13. I just tried to order some Bo-Mar sights from Brownell's and was told that they were "factory discontinued". Anybody else run into this? Is it true? Thanks, JPL
  14. While your understanding of the course requirments for this stage is correct, it appears to me that the stage does not comply with current USPSA rules. The stage is 2 strings of 9 rounds each, Virginia Count, for a total of 18 rounds for the stage. It is a "Long Course" of Fire. It is not a classifier and not a short course, so it has to be a standard. 1.2.1.2 “Medium Courses” must not require more than 16 rounds to complete and no more than 3 shooting locations. 9.2.3.2 Virginia Count must use paper targets exclusively, and must only be used for Standard Exercises, Classifiers or Short Courses. Because it is a standard if you have more than 6 rounds in a string you have to require a reload in that string. 1.2.2.1 “Standard Exercises” must not require more than 24 rounds to complete. Component strings must not require more than 6 rounds (12 rounds if a mandatory reload is specified). -JPL
  15. From the current rulebook: US Appendix D9 8 Maximum magazine length No 9 Maximum ammunition capacity Yes, 10 rounds loaded maximum in any magazine after the start signal. -JPL
  16. Are both magwells the exact same shape, only different materials? What *may* be happening is the shape is affecting how you grip the pistol and causing the muzzle to return to a different point, in effect changing your index. Muscle memory going back to the same spot but the muzzle going somewhere else. -JPL
  17. Just got my "Official Ballot" in the mail today! Already voted and put in the mailbox! -JPL
  18. A big +1 to sfinney! I have used the combination he describes (17 lb. mainspring and Extreme Engineering or C&S parts) for years and have had excellent triggers in single stacks, limited and open pistols. I usually re-cut the sear and polish the disconnector where it contacts the back of the trigger bow. This combination yeilds a crisp, sub 2lb. trigger that lasts in excess of 50k rounds. I have always thought that the tri-glide system was a solution looking for a problem, much like external extractors in a 1911. -JPL http://jplprecision.com
  19. EGW also stocks one. Give George a call. -JPL
  20. Without seeing the gun, it is hard to tell exactly what's happening. Does the pistol have an extended ejector in it? One possible scenario is the the gun will run fine when it is ejecting an empty case but the length of the ejector combined with the overall length of the loaded round is to long to clear. Hope that gives you a place to start looking. -JPL
  21. Para's are different than "traditional" 1911's. They require a longer spring to work, as you have discovered. Dawson stocks the correct ones and I think you can get them directly from Wolff.
  22. +1 on HSMITH. Every STI/SV frame I have ever seen has this cut. totally normal. They will tend to crack at the back corner of the cut for the slide stop. Also no problem. They will run forever!
  23. You've gotten lot's of good advice on way's to go. The folks that advise against the extended slide release are correct. If you have one on a limited gun, you will get to shoot it in Open. This is from the current rule book, US Appendix D7, Limited Division: 18. External modifications such as weights, or devices to control or reduce recoil are specifically not allowed, such as but not limited to, thumb rest, extended slide stops, etc. -JPL
