  1. Price of a 6 pack is already a heck of a lot higher than it was just 6 months ago! Time to dust off the homebrew equipment! Trodrig
  2. Man, I can't believe the haul I had this year! My wife ROCKS! 1st, a new CRKT M-4 pocket knife. 2nd, an HSMITH tuned 170mm magazine, and 3rd, a KISS bullet feeder! I think I'm covered for the next 2 Christmases!! Spending time with my family out at the ranch later today is going to cap the day!! Trodrig
  3. I could be wrong in interpreting your description of the jam but, it sounds like a "3 point" jam. Cartridge partially in the chamber, bottom of the case wedged on mouth of the chamber, and the rim stuck behind the hood of the extractor. Is that what you meant by "....."wedge" in the chamber at about a 45 degree angle."? If so, have you checked the extractor tension? Is it an internal or external extractor? I believe Kimber was replacing all of their external extractor models with slides that contain internal extractors because of repeated issues. Hope this helps! Trodrig
  4. Can't get enough of the Celebration Ale from Sierra Nevada! Liked it so much I started brewing it myself! Trodrig
  5. No need to clean the primer pockets....especially in 45ACP! I do clean the pockets in my rifle reloads that I run on a single stage press. Trodrig
  6. Absolutely Laphroaig! Especially if you like it smokey! I got the 10 year 1st, liked it so I sprung for the 15. WOW what a difference in 5 short years!! I really wanna try some Lagavulin someday as well. Aside from those, I like the Dalmore 12 and The Balvenie. Trodrig
  7. Thanks folks! I think I'm gonna add some Dawson +1's to my Christmas wish list! Trodrig
  8. So, is the Dawson "Just Right" kit (with insert) the same as the Dawson +2 or is that a different animal all together? Anyone know if the insert that comes with that kit the same as Arredondo's? Thanks, Trodrig
  9. I have 5 STI mags (140mm) for 38SC that I want to get some Dawson basepads for. Question is, which one?? The original toolless, the SNL, or the "Just Right" kit with basepad, insert, and spring? Thanks for ya'lls opinions! Trodrig
  10. Great read and I love the sign! I wonder if/when a shooting comes to pass and a CHL holder takes the guy out before he kills many people will it get the kind of media attention that the criminals get when they are successful at shooting until they take their own lives. I suspect they wouldn't which is sad. Of course, I'd hope that this was the last such event that ever happens period and we never have to find out... Trodrig
  11. I'm using about 8 grains of Longshot to make major. 7625 may be another option. 7.5 grains of 7625 put me almost to major. Trodrig
  12. I saw a wireless camera at cabelas awhile back but if I remember correctly it was only good out to 100 yards. Looking at their website real quick I couldn't find it to confirm though.... Trodrig
  13. Is Larry White in Corpus? Thanks, Trodrig
  14. Well, according to the USPSA website I earned a C class for my initial open classification. I'm at 56.99% so I just need a little more to bump up to B! However, I still haven't received the card in the mail! Trodrig
  15. I bought a Trubore from Dawson and had him do his "Enhancement Package" to it before I got it. He tuned it and made sure it ran right before I got it. I've only put about 1000 rounds through it so far and the only hiccup I had was while working up loads and starting WAY too low. Once I got up above the 150 power factor level it's been running fine. The only thing I kinda regret is getting it hard chromed right away. If you go the Trubore route, get Dawson to go through it and hold off on the chrome until you're sure you won't want the slide lighted or something else. Trodrig
  16. Thanks for the pics Chet! I had no idea I shot with such a goofy grin on my face! I guess an open gun will do that to ya! I'm really liking this thing!! Trodrig
  17. VERY nice looking dog! Trodrig
  18. I agree with North and don't get too worried about +/- 0.1 grain. But, also make sure that your powder bar is returning all the way when you lower the ram. Make sure the powder failsafe bar is pulling the powder bar all the way back and not binding. I had mine binding at one time I can could see bigger than 0.1 grain variation because the powder bar was about 1/4 inch away from full return. Trodrig
  19. Yup, same fast service from MG here as well! Ordered a case on Monday and I had a note on the door Wednesday saying a signature was needed and I could pick them up a the post office. Kinda funny listening to the guy at the post office, "This is the heaviest flat rate box I've ever lifted!!". Trodrig
  20. Thanks again everyone! I think Dave hit the nail on the head. I need more experience shooting to just get the feel for how the open gun reacts in general. I shot it for the first time in a match this past weekend and it is a totally different experience from my 45! I'm going to go ahead and try to get 7625 up to major and then load a bunch of one of these three powders and shoot the crap out of the gun for awhile! Then maybe I'll come back and do some more side by side comparisons! I'll make sure to re-check the loads when going to new lots of powders too. When ya'll switch lots, do you work up again from a reduced load or just fire a few over the chronograph to make sure you're still making major? Thanks for all ya'lls help! Trodrig
  21. Thanks for the info guys! I'm hoping to be able to shoot a hundred rounds of each powder this coming weekend and decide which one I like the feel of best. If it turns out that I like 4756 best, I think I will do as Chet suggests and try the 121 or 124 grain bullet to cut down on the spillage! I'll keep an eye on the ES with Longshot too. If I go with that one, I was thinking I might need to bump it up a little bit for some extra margin over the 165pf floor. I'll need to shoot some hot/cold rounds to see the effects of temperature. Does anyone know if any of these powders are temperature sensitive? If so, is it a positive or negative temp coefficient? When testing different loads side by side, do ya'll simply run bill drills and see which one allows you to track the dot best? Thanks, Trodrig
  22. Well, I just thought I'd update this thread with some new results. I'm up to major PF with both SR4756 and Longshot. It took 9.1grains of 4756 and 7.9grains of Longshot. Here are the specifics: 9.1 grains SR4756; 115grain MG Low: 1444 (166pf) High: 1479 (170pf) Avg: 1460 (167.9pf) ES: 35.13 SD: 12.2 7.9 grains Longshot; 115grain MG Low: 1446 (166.3pf) High: 1485 (170.7pf) Avg: 1467 (168.7pf) ES: 39 SD: 15.06 How much of an extreme spread do ya'll usually consider too much? I'm really liking the Longshot load since it fills the case but not so much that I have to advance the shellplate on my 650 super slowly to avoid powder spillage like with 4756. I need to work some more up with 7625 but at 7.5grains I'm starting to see the primers flatten out a little bit. I'm not sure how much further I should push that one. Does anyone have a picture of how flat a primer is too flat? Thanks, Trodrig
  23. I'm currently running a 200 grain Precision SWC over 4.2gr of Clays. I also like the Laser Cast 200 grain SWC's and only need 4.0 grains of Clays to make major with them. But, of course, there's the smoke and bullet lube gumming up the seater die to contend with. Cabelas still has both the 200's and the 230 RN's on sale.... Trodrig
  24. This year I'll be asking for the following: 1) A 170mm mag 2) 5 followers 3) 5 Dawson base pads 4) Primers, powder, and bullets by the truckload! That's about it....for now! Trodrig
