  1. Thanks Dave! That's true, there's no way to double charge with this powder! Just wanted to make sure I wasn't way off base with the case being that full. Sure is nice to have this resource to get advise from! I appreciate it! I'll post the chrono results later. I'm chompin' at the bit to get out and shoot this thing! I've had it for 5 days now and only fired one mag through it!! Trodrig
  2. Thanks Dave! Looks like you answered my question about that just being the nature of 4756 as I was typing it! I figured I was going to be way under major with the weights of 7625 that I picked but I just wanted to go slow. Is 7625 a good candidate for minor steel loads? I'll hopefully chrono these today and work towards the 7.5 range you suggested for major! Thanks! Trodrig
  3. Thanks guys! So, it's just the nature of 4756 that it fills the case to the top? Trodrig
  4. Here's a pic of my first open gun! STI Trubore with Dawson's enhancement package. I just finished loading up a bunch of rounds to run over the chronograph either tomorrow or Thursday depending on how work goes! I can't want to break this thing in!! Trodrig
  5. Hi all! I received my Trubore from Dawson this past Friday and am working up some loads for it. Pics of the gun will be coming soon! Here's a summary of what I'm going to test out. Going slow since this is my first time loading for 38 SC and I know it's a different animal from the low pressure 45 I'm used to! Common Factors: New Starline 38 Super Comp brass 115 grain Montana Gold JHP 1.240" OAL 0.378" Crimp Loads: Longshot: 6.5gr, 6.8gr, and 7.1gr SR7625: 6.0gr, 6.2gr, 6.4gr, and 6.6gr SR4756: 8.0gr, 8.3gr, and 8.6gr The SR4756 loads are all REALLY full. I've attached a pic of a case with 8.6 grains in it. Hope I uploaded it correctly.... I'm not use to compressed loads like this and just wanna make sure this is not an issue. Dawson recommended 9.5 grains with 115gr bullets but I'm just not use to seeing cases this full and am kinda nervous. Thanks for the help! Trodrig
  6. At long last I'm going to pick it up today! Hope the boss doesn't mind me taking a few hours of PTO to hit the range!! Trodrig
  7. I just unfolded the choreboy, wrapped a section around a worn out bore brush, and went to town. The majority of the bore came pretty clean with just a few passes but there was one area that was particularly stubborn. Trodrig
  8. Thanks everyone! "Hooked" doesn't even begin to describe it!! Trodrig
  9. Well, I shot this one this past Sunday. 58 points in 8.41 seconds shooting L-10. Looks like this will come out to be close to 72.59%. I'm on the road to 'B'! Trodrig
  10. Ok, it ain't much but I just got my initial L-10 'C' card in the mail today. I'm right on the verge of making B though at 58.98%. This is my first classification in any of the divisions! It just feels good to be on the map so I thought I'd share my excitement!! Trodrig
  11. Very nice looking puppy! Love those spaniel ears and face! Trodrig
  12. No problems with S&B here so far. Primer pockets are tight but I don't have any crushing when seating. trodrig
  13. Agreed! Blue does rock! Every time I've called them I've had a great experience!! The part that broke on you, is it the little snap ring that holds the spring loaded decapping pin into the sizer die body? If so and you don't want to wait for the shipping, you can find them at Home Depot for cheap. They're called E-clips and I believe the size you need is 1/4". trodrig
  14. Try going longer. I loaded those bullets to 1.25" and had good feeding results. trodrig
  15. Thanks folks! You may be right that there's some amount of moly build up as well but alot of it is definitely lead. I scrubbed using the copper chore boy and that got it out. You could see alot of lead flakes coming out as I was scrubbing. I'll just continue to use that method. I probably should slug the barrel but, with all other things pretty much equal between the cast and moly coated bullets, I was just surprised that the moly's leaded MORE than the plain cast. Cast bullets were 0.452" and molys are 0.4515" according to the folks at Precision. After I shoot these up I may end up going back to cast and deal with the lube smoke and buildup. They're cheaper and the way the prices of bullets are going I gotta cut costs wherever I can! Trodrig
  16. Thanks for the suggestion. I have pulled a bullet in the past and the coating looked pretty good. Despite the leading it still shoots pretty accurate so I guess I'll just blow it off and keep shooting it. They smoke so much less than plain cast lead which sure is nice! Trodrig
  17. I'm shooting 200grain Precision SWC's with 4.2 grains of Clays and WLP primers. I'm getting alot more lead build up with this combo versus the Laser Cast SWC's with clays. Could it be that clays is too fast and is melting the base of the Precisions? Thanks! Trodrig
  18. I haven't had a primer go off using my 650 yet. I've loaded several thousand rounds on it so far. However, I have read here that it can happen. I have had a primer get caught sideways in the primer magazine tube. I would imagine if had forced the handle under this condition I could've had the primer pop. In general, I'd advise taking your 99.9% chance of wearing safety glasses to 100%! I think that's just good practice anytime you're handling primers. Good luck, have fun, and be safe! Trodrig
  19. I had pretty much accepted that I was going to have to wait until October for my chromed and tuned Tru-bore. But I recently got a call from Dawson saying that the pistol came in ahead of schedule from STI and should be ready in September!! I can't wait!! Trodrig
  20. Sounds like fun Jamie! I REALLY wanted to go sunday but trouble with the wife's car kept me busy all weekend. Good luck in Piru! Trodrig
  21. I used the Redding die for 45acp with cast lead. Biggest problem was build up of bullet lube which pretty much prevented the spring loaded seating stem in the die from doing it's job. Had to take it apart after about 500 rounds to clean it out. This is a big part of the reason why I stopped shooting cast lead.... trodrig
  22. I've had a Thumler's Ultra Vibe 10 going strong for over 10 years with really heavy use just in the last one and a half years that I've been shooting more pistol competition. It's still running good but is a bit on the small side. Thumler's makes a bigger model, but it's about the same price as the big Dillon. If/when my little one takes a dump I'll be getting the CV-2001. Trodrig
  23. Scalce, If you use Hornady's One Shot case lube there's no harm in spraying a little inside the cases. It really helps with the powder funnel sticking on my 650. trodrig
