  1. Also, I remember hearing that there for awhile Kimber was replacing slides containing the external extractors with ones containing the internal extractors. From what I've heard and read online, they've had nothing but trouble with the external extractors. Good luck! Trodrig
  2. My Kimber came with a 16# spring and I try to replace it every 2 to 5 thousand rounds. I have also had better luck loading longer rather than shorter in my Kimber. Trodrig
  3. So, let me make sure I'm understanding correctly. Are you saying that you've run 5k through the gun loaded to this length with no problems and now you're having problems? Are the problems happening with both your new 10 round mags and the old 8 rounders that were working fine before? If that's the case, you might try changing your recoil spring. I had the same problem with 200 grain SWC's. When my recoil spring started getting worn I'd have a jam from time to time with the round 1/2 way in the chamber and the rim under the extractor. A slight tap of the slide would get it to go all the way. A new 16# spring and all was well! Hope that helps some! Trodrig
  4. Thanks HSMITH! So far the gun's been running good. I've only put 200 rounds through it over the chronograph working up to major, but, so far so good! Thanks everyone for taking a look! Trodrig
  5. Well, the extractor mark was very subtle but I think I found it and lined all of them up at 3 o'clock in this new picture. Looks like the primer strikes are all off to the right a little. Thanks! Trodrig
  6. Here's a picture of brass from three different loads. I don't know how they were sitting in the chamber when fired so I'm not sure where the extractor was located. I can keep track of that next time if ya'll think this is bad enough to be concerned with. These were three different loads. From left to right they are 7.5gr SR7625, 7.5gr Longshot, and 9.1gr SR4756. Only the 4756 load is making major (~166PF). The other two are close but not quite there. Do any of these primers look too flattened to you guys? I didn't think they looked that bad and was planning on stepping up both the SR7625 and Longshot loads by another couple tenths of a grain. Thanks! Trodrig
  7. In developing loads for my STI Trubore I've been looking at the primers and watching for pressure signs. I'm not seeing any pressure signs yet (just now getting up to major PF and taking it real slow) but I am seeing that the firing pin strikes are no where near centered on the primer. Is this indicative of a problem with my loads or possibly the gun/extractor? All rounds drop in/out of the chamber with no problem. I'm loading 115 grain Montana Golds at 1.240" OAL. Gun has an Aftec extractor. Using brand new Starline Super Comp brass and Winchester Small Rifle primers. Thanks, Trodrig
  8. Thanks folks! I agree, for 30 bucks, it's worth a try! Gonna order one today! Trodrig
  9. Does anyone have any good/bad experiences with the BSA holographic sights? Midway has one on sale for 30 bucks, regularly 99.99, that I'm thinking of picking up to put on a Ruger MKIII. Please let me know what ya'll think! The model is "RMDS". Thanks! Trodrig
  10. Thanks Dave! I'll send a couple of versions (with and without my edits) this evening. T
  11. Thanks for the reply Dave! The spreadsheet is off even on charges that I do have data for which is what has me stumped. From my measured data 5 grains should be a setting of around 1.3. However, the calculator says 2.86 unless I remove 4.25 through 7.50 from the equations. After removing 4.25 through 7.5 I get a much closer 1.36 from the calculator. Like you said though, the charges have to be verified with a scale anyway when changing so I guess I'm not going to worry too much about it. I'll have a good starting point and can dial in from there! Spreadsheet or no this is MUCH better than the stock adjustment screw!! Thanks! Trodrig
  12. Thanks Bronson7! Sorry, let me give a few more details. The spreadsheet has space for micrometer settings all the way up to 7.50 which is max on the micrometer. However, I can't go above about 10 grains of SR7625 and my super comp brass is overflowing. So, I only weighed powder charges up to a micrometer setting of 4.00 in 0.25 increments on the micrometer. This got me a max weight that was far greater than where I think I'll need to operate in so I thought this would be fine. However, if I enter this data into the sheet and do not delete the cells greater than a micrometer setting of 4.00 from the equations, the calculator box on the right does not give reasonable micrometer settings for powder charge weights within my range. For example, let's say I want 5 grains. From measured data, a micrometer setting of 1.25 gave me 4.8grains and 1.50 gave me 5.3grains. However, with all the data entered (up to a max setting of 4.00), the calculator says I need a micrometer setting of 2.86 which is way higher than 5 grains. I'm assuming this is due to a lot of 0's being taken into the equations but I haven't gone through the math yet to prove this to myself. Am I doing something really boneheaded here?? Thanks! Trodrig
  13. Really? I'll have to experiment with some 230's. I've used 200gr SWC's exclusively. What you're saying about the pressure makes sense though. Trodrig
  14. What's the distance from the muzzle to the chrono? I usually put it at 10 feet to make sure the gases don't mess with the readings. I used about the same OAL and crimp when I loaded master blasters. You might weigh charges in 20 or 30 rounds and run them over the chrono. Also, do like Bart suggested and use all one brand of brass just as a controlled experiment. Any signs of pressure in any of your loads? Flattened primers, etc? Trodrig
  15. I needed around 4.2 with their 200gr SWC to make major in my 5" Kimber. I agree that the ES on the 200 grain bullet data is too wide. Are you sure the powder charges were accurate for each load? Also, why is the 230 grain bullet data running faster than the 200 grain bullet with the same powder charge?? Am I reading something wrong on the cart? Trodrig
  16. When filling in the spreadsheet to calibrate my micrometer for SR7625 I got up to a setting of "4.00" and the case was overflowing with powder (>10.4grains) and therefore I didn't go any higher. Do y'all modify the equations for slope, y-intercept, etc. in the spreadsheet to only work with the range of cells you've filled in? If I don't do this, I get really bogus readings under the "Micrometer Setting Calculator". Thanks! Trodrig
  17. Man that's nice! I really like those slide cuts!! Trodrig
  18. Thanks for the offer for help Dave! I'm sure I'll have tons of questions along the way! Already getting lots of good advice from you guys on load development in my other thread! Thanks again for that! I've been trying to shoot at least 2 or 3 local matches every month. So far I've been shooting L-10 exclusively. I've been mostly going to the ALSPPC IPSC and steel matches along with the Texas steel match at Cedar Ridge. Missed this past weekend though due to Dove hunting! I'm planning on going to the match next weekend but I'm thinking I'll shoot L-10 again. I'm right on the verge of B class and would like to nail that before I switch to open. One more B score should put me over the edge! Wish me luck!! Trodrig
  19. I really wanted to go to that match but my daughter's 13th birthday party is that day so I won't be able to. I'll catch ya at the next one at Cedar Ridge though! Hopefully by then I'll have had a chance to work up further with the 3 powders I've got right now for comparison. Thanks, Trodrig
  20. Thanks for the info Jamie! I'd like to try some of your recipes! I'll look for you at the next Texas Steel match. Trodrig
  21. Good point EZ! I'll be moving up slow watching for pressure along the way! Now that you mention it, I did notice that 8.3 of 4756 was very soft. 8.0 was too but I think it was too light for the gun as it wasn't cycling the slide far enough to strip the next round off of the magazine reliably. Either it's too light or maybe the gun needs to be broken in more? Trodrig
  22. I was able to chrono pretty much all of my loads this evening! I tell ya, fall is upon us because the sun is going down quick and the Chrony don't like to work too well in the shade! Anyway, as expected, most of my loads were WAY light! Although there was one standout accuracy wise. Here's the results...I'm only posting the higher PF results: Longshot 7.1grains => 1370fps (157.5pf) SR4756 8.3grains => 1380fps (158.7pf) VERY accurate! All holes touching at 20 yards! 8.6grains => 1406fps (161.6pf) SR7625 6.6grains => 1350fps (155.2pf) Both IMR powders were pretty accurate across the board but 8.3 was really good. I'm gonna push all of these loads higher and load up another batch for this weekend! I'm thinking 9.2 or 9.3 with SR4756 should get me to major and maybe 7.6 for Longshot? I'm thinking 7625 is probably going to need 7.5+ Trodrig
  23. Thanks everyone! I've only shot a handful of rounds through the gun so far. Trying to work up a major load. This thing is fun to shoot slow fire from a sandbag. I can't wait to actually shoot some drills/stages with it!! I'll have to post some pics of it nice and dirty after a good long shooting session! Trodrig
  24. Wilson's have worked without a hitch in my Kimber. Sometimes MidwayUSA has'em on sale too! Trodrig
