  1. Don't be afraid to ride the short bus
  2. I have been reloading 200 gr. lswc with Clays for over a year now and have been very pleased. I attribute most of the smoke to the sealer on the bullets. Depending on which gun/barrel used I am loading 4.2 to 4.4 gr. with an OAL of 1.25 to make 170 PF.
  3. My mother has recently recovered from this for the second time. Having this condition sucks out loud. Here's praying Hubby gets well and vertical quickly.
  4. Congratulations. That is a stud of a deer.
  5. did you count that one on your limit?....and yes, bet the hawk had seen Opening Day B4...my buddy tells the same story about eagles and duck hunting...eagle sitting in a dead tree, couple hundred yds from the pothole where they were shooting ducks...one of them pops a teal and just as it hits the water, zoom here comes the eagle and the teal is history... Yes, a bird taken is a bird taken. There was a time that I would not have counted the dove against my limit. I am in that phase of hunting that I am enjoying the hunt and the shared experience as opposed to being driven to fill a limit. Same goes with my fishing. For several years now my fishing has been 99% catch and release. I am getting a great deal of enjoyment from getting my lifelong hunting and fishing partner back in the game after a motorcycle accident left him with the use of his right arm only. It has been a lot like starting over again at shooting, hunting and fishing. We rigged up a pistol rest on his chair, set up a blind and he took a deer during Thanksgiving weekend. We mounted a scope on a S&W .460 XVR and I zeroed it at 100 yards which turned out to be the range of his shot on the deer. The look on his face was unforgettable.
  6. On opening day of our dove season this year I had an unforgettable experience involving a red tailed hawk. We were shooting doves at a pretty good clip. My friend was sitting in his wheel chair with his back against a tall wood line. I was beside him a short distance away. We had seen the hawk circling high up amidst all the shooting and commented on his lack of fear with doves dropping out of the sky regularly. About 15 minutes later I shot a dove that was going to hit the ground about 30 feet in front of us. Just before the dove hit the field we saw a big blur as the hawk snatched up the dove at the instant it hit the ground. Without missing a beat the hawk swooped up over the tree line and was gone. The experience left us speechless for a few moments unitil we looked at each other and both said "did you see that"? The speed at which the whole thing happened was such that it was hard to belive what we had seen. We both agreed that this was not the first opening day the hawk had observed. I had heard of hawks finding lost birds after a hunt. I guess this was too hungry to wait.
  7. Our crew won the the NC Governors Cup for billfishing a couple of years ago. I received a beautiful monogrammed jacket and a matching sea bag. While I wouldn't take anything for the jacket, the sea bag is with me every time I step on a boat.
  8. I have used practically every type of bag for duck hunting and offshore fishing. My latest bags used for duck hunting have been 100% reliable, (dry), in rain, sleet and snow. Ok, it snows every once in a while in NC. My blind bag is made by Avery and is slighly smaller than my range bag. I can't remember if any of the bags are available in anything other than camo or not. I do know that a variety of sizes are available. Other than the materials used to construct the bags it appears that the secret is in the storm flaps covering all zippers utilizing velcro.
  9. Someone help this man. He needs a 1911. I have to warn you, 1911's are a great deal like potato chips. It starts innocently enough, you buy one 1911 and soon realize that you need another until one day you look around and you own a dozen or two. A friend referred to my 1911 "collection" one day. I explained that I was not a collector but more of an accumulator. To make matters worse Colts are an addiction all on their own. Great photo!

    Novak?

If anyone has any information regarding this guy please send it along. Were any of us in my friends shoes we would appreciate the help. Hope you can get the information you need Lawman and will see you at the range.
  11. I hope the fishing takes the edge off your disappointment.

Sickest I have ever been was due to cat scratch fever. Short version is, cat scratch on the neck, neck swollen twice normal size, raging fever, delerium and to top it off, hurt like hell! Sitting in a tub of ice in a hospital is an experience you only need once. A little old lady asked me to "rescue" her cat from a tree. The cat was fine but she was about to snap. I leap into hero mode only to be reminded that no good deed goes unpunished.
  13. Very nice Delta Elite. Who did your work?
  14. Obviously a life lived touching others. I am so sorry for your loss. I will keep you in my prayers. May God bless you and keep you.
  15. When I am albacore fihsing in the fall with a 10 wt. I eat ibuprophen before and after fishing. When schools of false albacore have the bait pushed up on top and are in a frenzy I sometimes expect my arm to fall off. Of course the adrenaline is generally counter productive but that is why I am out there.
  16. I own two Browning A Bolt rifles and use them for hunting. Both are the most accurate rifles out of the box I have ever shot. A friend and I each bought Brownings chambered in .204 Ruger. Both shot submoa 5 shot groups out of the box. I later bought a Browning chambered in .25/06. I had assumed that our experience with the rifles in .204 was largely due to the calbre. As it turns out the rifle chambered in .25/06 is more accurate than either of the first two. If I had ordered a custom rifle in .25/06 and was delivered a gun that shot as well as my Browning does I would have been thrilled. Having said that, if I was going to put together a competition rifle and planned to shoot a great deal I would be somewhat skeptical of the Brownings. The barrels are a bit on the thin side. How this translates into barrel life I don't know. I would prefer a heavier barrel for match shooting if for no other reason than for stability.
  17. The great majority of my flyfishing is in salt water. If you fish long enough you can become somewhat jaded with conventional tackle. For the last four years I have spent more and more time with the flyrod and it has opened a whole new world of fishing for me. Have a great trip.
  18. I went through the same gyrations hoping to see one of the best match ups of the sesaon. I was fuming because my cable provider does not offer the NFL network. After doing some research I redirected my anger towards the NFL network. It seems the network is trying to extort $.70 per viewer per game for the privelage of watching the games. The three largest cable providers have refused to carry the network. I am not sure the players see a dime of the revenue generated by sales of the broadcast.
  19. I admire the way you handled the situation and appreciate your post. I am signed up for a RO course and it never occurred to me that I need to be more familiar with quite a few guns. You also made me think about how we deal with new shooters at our club matches. Thanks.
  20. I saw this happen to my sister at our bus stop. Things looked bleak but she made a complete revovery. You and your family will be in my prayers John.
  21. Mine was in my box today (NC) and in perfect condition. I got a little misty. My first rule book.
  22. Yep, they are messing with you. Your photos remind me of when I lived on a farm in the early 80's. I hunted a tremendous buck the entire season and saw him briefly once. The week after the season closed he walked across my driveway and I had to stop the truck to let him pass. Twenty feet away he stopped directly in front of me and stared. #@&&*!! deer.
