  1. My local club does weekly 'practice' matches. Sometimes there are hoser stages with many targets that allow for quick transitions. In my head there's a cadence before I start I want to keep. If all goes well, the dot, my trigger finger and my eyes work together to keep that pace. I try to keep the same split between shots 2-3 as there was between 1-2. In retrospect, I'm doing predictive shooting. I see the dot on target, pull the trigger, and before or just as #2 is fired, my eyeball is already on target 2. I know where the gun will return to if I hold it right, and thus comes shot #2, while my eyeball waits for the red dot to superimpose on target 2. Rinse and repeat for the rest of the stage. This came with a cost though initially where my %of C hits went up. (My goal is no more than 15% C hits per match) With just a very slight slowdown and a quicker dot acquisition on the next target, the C hits reduced and the scores improved slowly. Long story short with an avg of 95-100 competitors per weekly match, I started this April placing in the high 70's placing to #8 overall recently. People say I improved quickly. Honestly I don't practice that much other than dry fire. I went from 2.75 seconds time to first shot to 1.1-1.2 average. That improvement on 5 stages is a 10-15 higher placing just on the time saving HF increase alone. There's all this talk about going faster, transitioning faster, and I see way too many people leaving 1-2s seconds on the table with the time to first shot. We can all practice that and improve for free.. well it took me 3 holsters to find the one that works the best for me, but I found it.
  2. I have 8+ dots on competition guns. On the EDC, it is irons only. For giggles the other day, I was hitting 18x24 steel at 50 yards and quickly with the irons. That's all I needed to know. Even with the stress and other distractions of an actual shoot, I do not even remotely think I will miss my target.
  3. I had a 550 for many years and HATED the primer system. l'm one of those weirdos that love the disc style primer system on the 650. Along with the other obvious upgrades (extra station, case feeder, etc), I never looked back or wished I had a 550.
  4. I had a reload in my mental stage plan and forgot to during the stage. I opened a door, a moving cover exposed the target and I got a 'click'. Crap, I reloaded and the target was now obscured except for the head shot A zone area. I slowed down and put em both in the head and embarrasingly finished that portion of the stage.
  5. On a local 3 day match, on day 2 I forgot my belt at home. Why I even took it out of the truck is beyond me. Luckily I found a friend who let me borrow his belt and I continued on. I now have a written checklist and will use it.
  6. A local shooter recommends and I have adopted the practice of cleaning a mag if it has touched the ground. I use MBX mags and it's very simple to take the baseplate off, run a brush through and reload. I was very surprised when I did it the first time 'just because'. SO much dirt came out, I never hesitate to clean em again if they touch the ground.
  7. All good info here. I was surprised on my weakness in a recent contest. That was finding the dot when running between targets. I can naturally stand still, draw and point to the A zone 95% of the time. Doing that while running and bringing the gun up from a semi-low ready or low enough to clear a barrier is a different index I need to get the brain to work on.
  8. With multiple guns, thus multiple belts, how are you storing them to keep the spouse happy ? I have 4 belts, 2 in the safe, one in my office and the other one over a wooden hangar with my normal clothes.
  9. I shoot 8.1gr of HS6 1.135, 180 PF and to me, the recoil is light, the dot does not move. 10lb spring.
  10. I have one, but I learned that it's a rest, not a pedal as they're referred to. My open/major gun shoots better when it's held much looser than I'd hold a limited gun.
  11. 22 - Vortex Viper - I hate it SRO 2.5 CZ Bull Shadow SRO 2.5 DWX SRO 2.5 Sig P320 Spectre Comp C-More Railway CZ Czechmate Romeo 1 P320 X5 Holosun competition green P320 X5 legion
  12. The best way for me to minimize the misses is 12:00, 3:00, 3:00. 3:00, 3:00. No need to keep chasing anything. With the longer armed stars, the spin rate is faster, and I'm not waiting per se for the steel to swing up to the 3:00 position. On the slower swinging stars, I'll do 12,3, then move slightly down and get the next plate before it comes to the 3:00 position. Ditto for the 4th and 5th plates.
  13. I recently shot at an indoor range and I wanted to function check only. The target hanger was as far forward as it would come, and I left it there. The gas from the comp cut the cardboard hanger in half! Oops.
  14. I have 2 open guns. SigP320-SpectreComp and a Czechmate. They both operate like sewing machines. 4port comp on the CZ has much less muzzle rise. My first win in my division came with the P320. You can do it for well under 2k!
  15. I was doing well in a stage and my slide racker went flying away. It's the stock CZ racker. I'm right handed and I have it on the right side of the gun. I put it on the right because when coming out of the holster, I found it can get in the way of my thumb trying to find the safety lever. I want a left side racker that is Z shaped and I don't wan to pay $100 for it. What are your suggestions ?
  16. My last name starts with G. Often I'm 2nd or 3rd in the squad to shoot, sometimes first. I hated going first, just hated it. Something mentally clicked and when it's my turn to go, I'm ready. It's like a HUGE anticipation is lifted once I get that first stage done, and especially if it's a clean run. Even though I may feel ready, my dry hands instantly can sweat when the Make Ready command is given. Liquid chaulk fixes that. I still do prefer someone really good to go first, and I can learn from them. I've learned a lot by observing.
  17. I had my eye on a TS2, until I came across a screaming deal on Czechmate. (2 barrel version) At the time, my skill level didn't warrant me shooting open, so I used the normal barrel, and shot it in LO because it's SAO. I used a dovetail plate for the SRO. Once I got comfortable with that, I switched over to the comp'd barrel and the C-More frame mounted dot. After a few competitions, my buddies encouraged me to load up to Major and I made the switch. WOW, it shoots FLAT, FLAT! If you can find a Czechmate, go for it as you can shoot it in 2 divisions (3 if you convert to DA)
  18. Just finished my 1st 5,000 box of Ginex. Yep they were hard to seat at first with the 650. Once I calibrated my right arm to push about 3lbs harder on the handle, I've had zero issues. For the price we can find these for, it was 100% worth it to me. They ALL have gone bang in the gun only and I just cracked open my 2nd 5K case.
  19. 100% True. My open gun uses the C-more, the rest are SRO's. That C-more battery life sucks! Just switched to 2 A76 batteries on the C-more though, MUCH Brighter than a single 1/3N battery.
  20. 2 for me and 3 for the really close targets if I even get a sight picture.
  21. I found for me, when shooting the plate rack, I like to cant the pistol about 20-30 degrees to the right and shoot left to right. On non-comped gun, the rest after recoil is usually right on the next plate. If I miss I get it at the end.
  22. Even though I have a single action Bull Shadow, I had to do the DWX. It's at CZ customs getting the same slide milling and plate with rear co-witness as the Bull. Hope to have it back before Christmas.
  23. My wife is an airline employee. Spouse benefits are free travel for me unlimited. - Standby only of course. The first 5 years of being married, I took solo weekend trips (when she was working) all over the US, but a lot of New York. On her days off the last thing she want to do is put clothes in a suitcase, get on a tube, fly somewhere and stay in a hotel. So, we ended up with a boat, and then a bigger boat. No longer on the coast, we sold the boat, but do travel a bit here and there, but not as much as we used to. My plan is to shoot better, and start hitting up matches out of my area.
  24. Tater, my 3 year old mini Poodle rescue. Loves the Waverunner!
  25. Just spoke to an owner of a shop. He said that earlier in the year CZ reset all dealer statuses. Only 40 dealers got reinstated in the USA recently. This is why so many dealers were upset and there was a sudden drop in prices on the CZs. Truth on this ?
