Riding Motorcycle to Matches

Recommended Posts

i have honda cbr1000rr sport bike that i've ridden to matches (pistol only, 2 & 3 gun is just too much to schlep). midway large range bag bungeed sitting on back seat. riding hear i just leave sitting on the bike, not too worried about it walking away at a shooting match but i guess you never know. could cable tie/lock it to the frame. where i've stopped on way to or from just made sure to keep the bike and especially the range bag in full sight.

Kraj,

You'll find that having the side bags will greatly expand your options when riding with "your equipment" for a match.

Just being able to carry weather gear on one side will change the way you look at travel to matches.

I just ran 440 miles (round trip) to shoot a USPSA Classifier match down in Homestead this weekend.

That green bag on the seat was in the right side bag. The weather gear is in the left side bag.

Spare ammunition and all that (drinks, sandwiches, bundles of cash for the casino later, etc) are in the rear top pack.

400 miles for a match? It was a good day for a ride, the weather was nice and I got to shoot a match half way through it!

If I would have had to drive a car to the match, I wouldn't have gone!

Get the side bags. You'll use them a lot. And as in my case, they come off quick so when you want to RIDE, you can still do it!

I have a Honda Goldwing F6B, that I commute daily on. I will strap my range bag to the pillon seat when I have a match during the week after work. Works quite well. I know a few others that ride their bikes to the matches. Go for it.

I'm a recovering sport biker. I currently ride a Vstrom as an all terrain commuter though. I have a set of Pelican cases mounted up as hard bags that suite my needs very well. The best part is they're waterproof, lockable, easily removable and will hold all my pistol gear without issue. I've ridden to a ton of local matches and to a handful of majors on it, and even with the additional ammunition for multi-days, it's good to go.

I owned an F4i for a bunch of years and had a set of Technic soft bags on it that served the same purpose. Not as convenient (not lockable and not 100% waterproof) but it worked and beat having the weight on my back on longer rides. It's definitely doable.

Hello: Look at the Givi hard bags. They have a quick lock system to remove the whole case. I have two of these. One helmet size one and another that will hold two helmets. I bought them used for not much money. Depending on distance the shooters connection backpack may be a good option also. For a breakdown shotgun I was thinking a VooDoo tactical backpack multi gun case. Damn now I want to get my Suzuki SV650 running now. Thanks, Eric

  • 2 weeks later...

I used to ride a Harley-Davidson Fat Boy with a Dillion Range bag bungee netted on the rear of the seat to IDPA matches. I have been wanting to ride my Harley-Davidson Deuce to a USPSA match. Problem is rolling gun beltup small enough to fit in a smaller back pack. Not the most comfortable bike to ride as it is a pro-street style hot rod. But I will try it soon. Tactical pants and trail running shoes. maybe a pair of shorts to put on at the range.

I've had to have my holster, still on the belt, just be out of the top of the backpack to make it all fit. I started taking it off and that fixed that, but it does add another step.

I rode 3 hours one way to a match yesterday. I think that's too far. Thankfully the ride was fun but 6 hours on the bike on top of a uspsa match..... I would have been less stressed physically just sitting in the car. Blasphemy I know..... Might just start riding the bike to things an hour or closer.
