The economy

Well found out that we are not getting a bonus anymore each quarter. I currently work for a company that supplies nails, pneumatic nail guns ,power tools, air compressors in which I service. We had been doing real well, needless to say we arent doing so well now they have cut out the bonus we normally would get for each quarter for service, inventory control ect... which i used for my addiction to shooting. Well it looks like I wont be shooting but maybe 1 match a month if that and for sure no major matches. Excuse any type O's due to me having a few too many tonight!

Feel free to close this if need be.

Feeling your pain! Just found out that we might be cutting hours by 20%. That would put me in line to take a 20% hit in salary also. I will be shifting my days to nights and eliminating after school care for my kids to ALMOST make up the difference. Yeah, I hate the economy too. Good luck and let's hope and pray it doesn't last too long :angry2:

Wow, I guess I should count my blessings, after taking 5 months off after retiring from the Army I start work tomorrow for a job with great pay, benefits, no economy worries, and almost no commute, which is a rare thing when you live in BFE, I was kinda bummed because it is the same job I had in the Army so kinda burnt out on it and I believe it includes a Thurs through Mon work week. Which is a double bummer. The hole reason I got a job is to be able to afford to shoot which is kinda pointless if I gotta work Sundays. But from taking a look around I guess I really need to be happy with what I have.

Seems to me dealing with the economy is like dealing with any other field course. The starting position may be weird, just to screw with your head and you may have to begin in a surrender position or laying on a bed, but once you hear the start signal you try to get as many points as you can while avoiding penalties.

You have five minutes to look over the course.

If gas can get back to about $2.00 a gallon ....everything will get better.

Hope for the best

Jim

Daddy used to give me a quarter to ride up to the gas station on my bike and get a gallon of gas for the lawn mower. I got to keep the 6 cents change and it went pretty far in those days. Other than a brief drop of few cents here and there back when they had gas wars I don't recall the price dropping very much or for very long. :(

Self employed, business slow right now, gasoline price of $3 would help me a lot. Already cut out traveling to matches, metal prices are killing me too. The economy is tough right now but I have seen it this way before.

By the way, What the hell is a bonus? I know the Government will Bone Us but that is the only time I hear it :o

sorry to hear some your woes. I have been layed off for a month. I have been looking for work that will actually pay my rent and leave me w enough to pay the bills, eat and put gas in the truck. If I managed a Mcdonalds I might make enough if I lived on 99 cent double cheeseburgers and took the bus there.. Shooting is absolutely out of the question and everyone keeps asking me why I'm so bitter.... Shooting was my oasis. it kept me sane through the tough times. Now I'm selling my guns and reloading equipment just to register the vehicle and insure it another year. If it gets any worse, I will have to sell the truck and buy a F'n scooter! I live in NV. and am ready to move Anywhere someone will hire me for a solid sales position. to whom I will sell to I have no idea. If any of you need a salesman in the western US, please feel free to pm me. NO SCHEMES Please! I went from $120K/yr. to ZERO in 50 hours. My boss couldn't afford my last check and bonus! :angry2: I'm doing some temp work in the republik of Kalifornia this week, but it is over Friday. I'm really worried y'all. thanks for listening to me rant!

I'll ponder that on my way to the unemployment office. If you still have a job, you're better off than a lot of people. :angry2:

I'm sorry to hear that. At least my house is paid off, so getting laid off this time isn't as bad as it was when I was younger (also happened to me back in 1990 and I was sweating that one).

Keep the faith. Things are going to turn up as soon as we get past the next election. Confidence will rise, the price of oil is going to drop, and things will turn around.

Keep the faith. People don't realize that oil is being artificially pumped up by speculators in very much the way tech stocks were pumped back in the day before the big tech bubble burst. There is tons of available oil, and as soon as this bubble bursts it will slide back down to about $60 - $70 a barrel. Gas in this country will never go much below $3 because demand remained so strong at that level, it will always be artificially held near that level as a minimum floorboard. But, $5 gas is not going to last for long because the high price of oil is being artificially induced and the FED is going to step in soon (wait and see).

We have evolved and adapted from the Stone Age to the Bronze Age to the Iron Age. I'd liken the 20th Century to the Oil Age and we are about to move into the Electrical Age. Those who adapt will prosper. Those who cling to their old technology because it has worked so well will face the same problem the Clipper Ship companies faced in the wake (pun just noticed) of the Steam Ship, and that Kodak faces now in the Digital Camera market. As a side note, I just learned last night it was a scientist at....you guessed it!....Kodak who invented the digital camera. Now they are playing catch up to Nikon, Cannon, Sony etc.

The world is changing, as it always has, and we each have the option to adapt, overcome and survive.....or not. If you want fair you need to go somewhere else.

I hate it too the economy changes faster than the USPSA rule book but that's just the way it is.

Bet the Woolly Mammoth hated it last time there was a serious global warming, the glaciers receded and they went extinct.

Well the other shoe fell today!

We are cutting hours 20% and pay accordingly as of July 1st. I asked for 30 days notice to let daycare know so that I wouldn't have paid the whole 30 days in advance and give her time to find another person to fill our spot. No such luck.

Anyway, at least I will be with the rugrats during the day all summer vacation. We will swim and enjoy :)

At least I have a job and I am thankful for that!

Bountyhunter I was lucky and sold my house at just the right time. thanks for the well wishes. I have an interview with the old co. I worked for a couple years ago. Apparently they aren't suffering at all. If that doesn't work there's plenty room for reccession proof businesses in vegas like pimping...

My boss couldn't afford my last check and bonus!

That is not good. I'm pretty sure that NV has a wage law that sets the time period that an employee has to receive their last paycheck. If you want to PM me or call me in my office, I can do some more digging to see exactly what the law is in NV.

thanks Dave. I called my Lawyer. I'm expecting about 10x what I should of been paid when we go to court. My ex boss thinks he's winning... wait til they find out about my 70 hour work weeks w no O.T! it will be a while before I'm awarded anything and it looks like he'll be out of business before we even make it to court... we'll see. I'm not holding my breath.

Seriously, the Nevada brothels have fallen on hard times (no pun intended) and are now so desperate they are giving away $50 gas cards for each visit depending on what you spend there. They showed it on the news.

If it's a corporation he can just file bankruptcy and you will win every dollar there is in an empty purse... :angry2:

as I said before, I'm NOT Holding my breath. I don't mean to come off like a Primadonna, but He doesn't have a business with without me. I was general mgr. He can't even log into his quickbooks P.O.S. His inventory is reduced to rubble. As a previous retailer, I can tell you he can't run his biz. I have a mole inside the joint who HATES his part time boss. he's 125K in the hole and at least 2 weeks late on his net 30's. He can't order anything until these debts are paid. My previous employer told me my ex boss has 7 days to pay off his debt of 22K or he's suing. (Hope it wasn't something I said  ) This shmuck is also going to court over my pay. from what I understand, he has 10 days to pay from the day I was terminated before he is responsible for my hourly salary + avg. commission 'til the day we settle in court. he's in major violation. I gotta call tonight from a friend that someone spraypainted obscenities covering his front window when they drove by the store. I'm 300 miles away and not that immature, but I think anything that hurts this guy is a little entertaining. :roflol:
