yekcoh
I have the old STI DVC Open with screw on type straight slide racker. The geometry is garbage and the screw keeps coming loose even with red loctite. I'm wondering if anyone has modified the slide to accept other rackers, quick removable dove tail kinds like the Brazos zig racker. Does anyone know if there is enough material to cut into it? This guy has the same model. You can see the tapped hole on the right side for the racker in the thumbnail: https://www.google.com/search?q=sti+dvc+open+38+super&rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS996US996&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiut-eDnev7AhWCLUQIHQKCBMIQ_AUoAXoECAIQAw&cshid=1670544089791038&biw=1920&bih=880&dpr=1#imgrc=Mf2NWTZpQ57IUM Edited December 9, 2022 by yekcoh
davsco
weird, i have one of the first dvc opens and the slide racker can go in the dovetail either side and there's like a spring loaded detent that holds it into place, no screws.

They changed the design to a screw in type after the dovetail. I guess it was cheaper. Have you taken it to a smith and asked if its doable? It looks like the tapped hole is lower than the dovetail cut. Wonder if you could have a new racker made to your preferred geometry and have it brazed or soldered it? Maybe Rokset? Braxton1
It'd be interesting to see if a dovetail was cut where you're holding the Zig, if it would impinge on the Firing Pin hole. It looks like it'd be awful close.

The gun is awesome except the racker. I can't stand the racker
Superkaratemonkeyfighter
How exactly does that capscrew hold it in ? do you have pictures of it out of the slide ?

I found a guy who's selling DVC with detachable racker.

zombywoof
Ditch the racker. It's a crutch and not needed. You'll get used to no racker.

I take care of some guns that belong to our club members who shoot STI guns. From day one I asked them to install buffers. Now they are after 75 K factory ammo and look almost like new. Much better than the other guns of the same type that shot much less than them.
