Flat nose FTF taccom

Recommended Posts

Any suggestions is greatly appreciated. Even a suggestion of sell the ammo is a consideration.
For those using a Taccom upper do you have any issues with flat nose rounds? It’s like they over shoot the barrel hole and get wedged between the sure feed insert and the barrel.  I constantly have FTF with 147g flat nose, the first round goes in no issues but then as I shoot I might get one or two good before a FTF. Sometimes I get FTF with syntech 150g/130g as well but no where near the same consistency.  Never a single feed issue with round nose, reloads or factory 147,124,115.
It happens with Glock factory mags and PMags.
My build is a taccom signature upper w/ ULW super feed Barrel, standard bolt, adjustable recoil system on a aero epc9 lower.

The problem might be the lower and not the upper. Do you have access to a different lower?

I do not, but of course I did see lot of posts with folks complaining about the aero epc9 and feed issues. However most of them are using a aero upper as well. I had been looking at a couple other lowers. QC10, Spikes Tactical, and Spartan.

I just got one of those uppers on sale and same thing with NFA lower. Crazy thing is I have the taccom barrel on another PCC with NFA lower/ upper and flat nose feeds just fine. I have no idea whats going on, but it frosted me so I stuck it in the back of the safe and Im shooting pistol next match. LOL

Edit: Im not convinced I didnt do something wrong assembling it. I'll look eventually...

Have you reached out to @TRUBL at Taccom to see if he has any advice?  Also, what is your OAL on those rounds?  Have you tried seating them a little deeper?

Sorry should’ve mentioned that they are factory Federal ammo.
edit; I did contact to Tim, and he said I should try to polish it.

Take the barrel and polish a bigger radius on the entry, right below the super feed option.....that should do the trick. Don't go crazy, but a little polishing in that area will go a long way!

I will have to try that. You’re the 3rd person to tell me to try that.

Gotcha... since factory maybe loaded a little long.  But don't have experience with it.  Thanks for the update

Update (kind of): Round nose snap caps cycle fine. Going to try syntech 150's tomorrow.

I was under the impression that these barrels were the best and fed everything - but they need polishing?

They ARE!!!......we can't control everything ya know. But our barrels will give you the absolute best chance of feeding just about any bullet profile out there. We all know that flat nose and hollowpoints will give any AR9 fits.....depending on magazine or lower, this is a little bump on the road. And does not speak to the 100's, if not 1000's of barrels we've produced in the last 4 years. IF he can't get it.....of course we will have him send the barrel back for inspection.....even we don't get it right every time and THAT is where our customer service comes in. I will say.....this is a rarity....the only other time we've had an issue was when a guy was trying to feed HST hollowpoints.

So yesterday I competed with it in a 6 stage SC match using round nose 124, 115 factory ammo and it ran flawlessly. Not a single issue with it, well other than I’m not fast. Not a single FTF, FTE.  My main concern was it being my first build I had missed something or I went to cheap on the lower.  I did way to much reading in what parts I wanted to use and I chose Taccom upper due to the huge amount of great reviews, people I know using them so I do feel it’s a one off issue. But an issue I can easily overcome. No Tim I’m not sending it back to you it ran flawlessly yesterday.

What part of another vendors bolt has to be modified to use your super feed barrel?

  • 2 weeks later...

I have 2 TacCom barreled PPC's  they are  5 1/2" x 16" & 10 " x 16" w/ shrouds. I shoot in steel competition weekly.I'm using "Blue Bullets" x 124 grn. RN. x 3.4 TG.. The 5 1/2" barrel is an early one feed ramper and has 100's x100's of rounds thru it. I believe  his barrels are as good as your going to find and a good value, PLUS he will talk to you and is very helpful..... I use the ETS mags almost 100%. (Glock guys usually run a little shorter OAL... I like to stay near 1.12/1.13, too long and you will have nose-down issues).
