Sport Pistol for .40 S&W Major PF

I gave Sport Pistol  a try today in my Edge.  It's just my opinion but it I think it shoots softer and cooler than Titegroup with  slightly less soot on the gun.  Very accurate at 25 yards too.  Can't wait to try it with some FMJs.

I was really surprised how much softer my 40 S&W Edge felt compared to my .38 Super Edge.  I was shooting SIG .38 Super 125 gr FMJ factory loads in the Super with a 12 lb. recoil spring and Wilson Shok Buf.

Bullet: BBI 180 gr. FP
Powder:  Alliant Sport Pistol 4.7 grs.
Primer:  Federal 100 Small Pistol
Case:  Remington (Regular Lee Die)
LOAL:  1.180
Recoil Spring:  Tool-less guide rod, 14 lb. Recoil Spring & Aluma Buffer Pad

Tried 4.6 - 4.9 of Sport Pistol under 180 Blue Bullets and ACME at 1.185 OAL today. I had the best accuracy with ACME.

4.8 provided great accuracy at 17 yards and well into PF comfort zone.

Group and 10 shot data in the pictures for 4.8 grains. There was one outlier shot at 913 FPS. I suspect that has more to do with my loading habits than the powder. YMMV

That mimics my test data at 4.8gr SP with a 180 Bayou

If you wanna push it close, the 4.6 was a 165.67 PF @  1.2 OAL :)

I pretty much exclusively shoot the SP in 9, 40 and 45 now. Way better than TG

A couple matches now with chrono stages.  I shot a match in Bozeman, MT and it was probably 70* and overcast.  I was 178pf. At HiCap Nationals last month, probably mid 80*, I was 173pf.

At home about 4,300’ and 60* I,m about 173pf as well. I’d have to check but I don’t have a lot of data at different temperatures. Chrono is set at 15’ at home.
