Captains1911
I recently starting experimenting with 147gr RN New from Freedom Munitions, and cannot believe how much softer its recoil feels compared to the 115gr I have been shooting for a while now. My only concern is that it meets minimum power factor for IDPA, because I do not have a chronograph to test it myself. Anybody know? Thanks for the help. JDW174
Advertised velocity on their website is 890fps. 890 x 147 = 130,830. I agree it shoots VERY soft.
Captains1911
I just noticed that the 147gr HP is advertised as 970 fps, I should give that a try too, and if it shoots similarly I'll likely just go with it since it's less likely to fall below power factor. Shooting these loads feels almost like cheating, I'm surprised more people don't shoot it.
rowdyb
Many do shoot "soft" 147gr loads, they just make their own and chrono it so they know and aren't just hoping it makes pf.
DreGarciaTAT2
Another alternative to this is the American Eagle 147 gr 9mm... I first started shooting this after taking a Ben Stoeger class and he said it's what he shoots at major matches... He let me use some, no complaints, and it's cheap! Hi-Power Jack
American Eagle 147 gr 9mm... What is "cheap"?
Tarkeg
I can usually find it for $250 a thousand with free shipping. Sometimes less. For a factory load that's pretty good, and it shoots great.
PatriotMRD
I don't shoot IDPA but, I did use some FM 147gr last summer. It made 130.2 pf on the chrono in my 2011 but, keyholed a lot. Not so with other 147gr loads.
SWHlctx
I don't know if Freedom still sells it, but before I started reloading I used a 147g 9mm called HUSH. Softer shooting than their standard 147. It made PF.
mreed911
I use Freedoms 135gr 9mm and it chrono'ed at 128PF in my 5" Range Officer at Area 4 yesterday. I like it better than the 147 and it's now my standard 9mm match load.
JDW174
Freedom's 147 is my match round for IDPA, and it's very accurate to boot. I still have a stash of their 115gr that I'll shoot up in practice, but the recoil is definitely snappier than the 147. I also have a couple of cases of SPEER Lawman 147gr (advertised at 970fps) that is every bit as accurate as the Freedom. All these makes have been 100% reliable in both my 1911's and Glock 19. GOF
I have done a lot of gun testing for various gun magazines over the last 30 years and the Federal American Eagle 147 FMJ load has proven to be the most consistently accurate load in every 9mm I have tested it from. If it's not "The Most Accurate" it will always be among the top 2 or 3.
assaultthesalt
Give Orr Tactical a try.I shoot their 147's out of my ESP/ Limited Minor 2011 and meet PF of 127 ! $220 per thousand www.orrtactical.com Edited September 11, 2016 by assaultthesalt
mreed911
I'll re-iterate Freedom's 135gr RNFP. Give it a try, OP... just know it's not in stock in their Houston storefront.
PatrickDoyle
orr tactical was at Houston match this weekend. Huge veteran support. I can't say how awesome they are. They were giving samples for use out at the match and sponsored a side match for vets too.
rowdyb
How many horror stories do we know of people shooting FM ammo and going sub minor? Too many.

PokerNGuns
Best to chrono few samples from boxes you plan on using at match. Out of my 4" PPQ the 147's from Freedom chrono'd at 884 and 900fps at recent equipment check.
kells81
Last weekend in Houston my 147's chrono'd at 880 pretty much on the money. Yesterday in Arkansas my first round was 820ish and the 2nd was 880ish. At home on my labradar they run from 880-920. Gun used for those is a CZ Shadow Edited April 9, 2017 by kells81

mjkten
Ok, I've been shooting FM for a couple weeks and hope I don't get caught with a low pf. So far after a couple thousand rounds no issues.
