Smitty79
I use tape on the front and back straps of my CZ85. SP-01 Shadows have been checkered. Do you still add tape?
MRevolutionIX
I only add tape to the front and leave the rear slick. The factory checkering provides very little if any traction in my opinion. Edited December 15, 2014 by MRevolutionIX
pmt
I taped the front, and extra tape on the thin grips.
Pinka
I put CZcustom aggressive al grips on mine and tape the back.
2MoreChains
Just try it and see. Beauty of grip tape is if you don't like it you can always remove it. I have grip tape on the front and back strap on one of my Shadows, the other is still bare minus the factory checkering. I haven't been able to discern any difference yet, but that might change come warmer temps in the summer.
accu9
The factory checkering is very poor. I used a heat gun and skateboard tape on the front strap and back strap. Looks ugly, but very functional.
JayDee
Yep- factory checking is more visual than anything. grip tape rules.

BeerBaron
agreed. the factory checkering is next to useless. I use tape on the front and back straps on my shadows. I use the 3M brand 'safety walk' tape. it's available in different levels of coarseness. it also has much better adhesion than the skate tape I tried. the skate tape would start to slide around (only on the backstrap) after a few uses. the 3m stuff stays put a long time. Smitty79
I've had some 3M tape on my CZ85 for a year. The only reason I replaced it was that it didn't hold up well when I cleaned some of the gun with brake cleaner.
bockerSV
Yeah I grip tape both the front and back. I don't think it looks fugly either, the way I cut it. This is about the best picture I have kicking around of it, the stock checkering, as others have said, kinda sucks.
rowdyb
the way i look at the pic in the rule book i don't think i can run grip tape on the front or back strap. am i crazy or can i in production?
BeerBaron
You definitely can on front and back strap. You just can't have it up high or forward on the frame.
Jayohee
Grip tape on front and back straps. ^^ This along with really aggressive VZ Tactical Diamond grips. You can see alot of microscopic dead skin (brown sh**) all over lol
accu9
BockerSV- Did you use an exacto blade to get your tape so precise on your grips? My griptape job looks like complete @#$! in comparison.
bockerSV
Nope, I made a template of the czc grip then traced it over to the grip tape. That got me close, then before I removed the backing on the tape I made sure to clean up and spots that weren't quite right..... being obsessive-compulsive helps also.
