Well I have been watching and reading all the Tanfoglio posts for quite sometime now, researching and contemplating what gun I really wanted. I must say I kind of went a weird route, by which I mean I really did buy the cart before the horse. First I purchased a nice 6 inch .45 hunter slide off of the Enos forums. Then I bought some mags to go with the slide. The plan then was to buy a 9 mm limited, and get essentially two guns a little cheaper. I then found some used 9 mm mags on here. So I had pretty much everything I needed except the actual frame of any Tanfoglio. So the other day much to my wife's dismay I finally bought my long sought after 9 mm Limited. Thought I would share some pics.

I also posted some pics of the guns I have been using so far. I can really say the Limited is quite the upgrade for me. In the 9 mm section of shooting I have been shooting two Star 30M's for quite sometime. Which are very much related to the CZ family of pistols. Then when I run out of loaded 9 mm I switch over to .45 and either shoot my HK Elite or one my my two Star megastars. I kinda have a thing for Star pistols.....not sure why. And the one I have never really shot much is my Sar K2 45. I never could really get the cheap adjustable rear on it to sight in how I liked it. But I am working on getting that fixed. And for hell's sake I threw in a pic of my 625.... cause I love revolvers, but alas I am horrendously slow with one.

Still to come on the Limited frame...Henning Flat trigger (I want the it to for the ease of adjusting the pre and over travel screws plus I do not, do not do not want to put that stupid factory trigger back in... as you can see from the scratches on my new limited it took me a few tries!), lighter plunger spring, lighter hammer spring... and I think I might try the .125 tall Dawson Precision site the limited as you can see from the pics the .160 has to be cranked up a little higher than I would like. To bad they don't make a .140, I think that would be perfect.

Thank you all for you knowledgeable posts, they really helped me in making my decision and I could not be happier.

my new 10mm hunter! Henning magwell and plates. I have a 38 super barrel for it too. I'm not sure what direction to go with it. Either a v16 port on the 6 inch long slide with no comp or put it on my lim pro open project. Or order a 2nd barrel and just do both?!? ?

Can someone give me (Tanfo rookie) and possibly others a quick lesson in porting and comps? What do we expect to get from "poppel" holes as opposed to openings on a compensator? At some point, the gas volumes will have been bled off so as to reduce the pressure behind the bullet. How do we balance all of this action?

Hunter set up for 38 super :-) Also with my limited pro slide set up. I'm thinking a quinn mount may be the ticket. I love my lim pro but there is absolutely NO wiggle in the hunter frame. It's like 4 guns out of 2.

While the V port arrangement looks cool, I'm not sure its the best way to combat muzzle flip. If you think about opposing 45 degree force vectors, half of the force is wasted opposing the port on the other side.

I hadn't thouht of that. I think I'll stick with getting the lim pro slide set up with the comp and a v6. I love the 10mm long slide too. It's just sooo soft shooting and the must accurate gun I have ever fired! who knows how I'll end up going but I will be posting a bunch of pics. Thank you again for the input atlas!

Ok for starters let's talk about terminology: "muzzle flip" "muzzle rise" are terms used to describe the vertical motion of the pistol hinged at the wrists, "straight back push", "slap in the hand", or "recoil" (this is a tough one since it's used interchangeably with muzzle flip) are used to describe the horizontal motion of the pistol. I use muzzle flip and recoil.

Barrel ports (or "Popple Holes") release combustion gasses behind the bullet as it moves down the barrel, effectively pushing the pistol down to combat muzzle flip. The downside to these ports is that since the bullet is still engaged in the rifling in the barrel, you trade velocity for this down force.

Compensator ports not only combat muzzle flip by directing gasses upward, but also combat recoil on the horizontal plane because the expanding gasses slam into the baffles effectively pulling the pistol forward. The bullet is already free of the rifling by the time gasses are escaping the comp, so the velocity is unaffected. The comp sounds like a much better option right? The downside to a comp is that it makes the pistol longer and heavier; some builders fight this by using titanium or aluminum to make the comp lighter.

Many guns are build using a combination of ports in the barrel and in the comp, but every shooter has different preferences and so the approach varies:

I love that cut frame. I wish I could find a compensator that is a solid piece contoured to the shape of the slide. For example the factory comps are cut on the bottom and I want one where the profile of the slide is maintained on the whole comp.
