sheepdog566
I was ready to buy a versa max synthetic 26" and out fit it with a versa tube. A benelli m1 26" just popped up for sale at around 650. How does the m1 compare to the m2? Any ideas on which way to go on this one?
P.E. Kelley
Taran Butler has said he loves the M1. Kurt Miller has won a bunch of major events with his trusty M1. I believe you will find some other subtle differences but one that comes to mind is that the M1 does not have and shim adjustable stock. for $650 BUY IT!!! bigbrowndog
DITTO, what Pat said,..... I'd buy an M1 and never look back, I've got several Benelli's without the comfortech stocks and simply adding a good pad, like kickeze or such you'll never feel a difference. you can order a shim kit, 650.00 is a great price. sheepdog566
I think I'm going to give it a try. I've priced out a bunch of taran tactical gear and it looks like I'll still come out ahead. Hopefully they are easy to work on.
bigbrowndog
you don't need a bunch of "tactical gear" on it, get an extension and go shoot it!!! save the money for ammo. trapr
kurtm
A 26" gun will be a M1 super 90 field...it will indeed have shims to adjust the stock, so it is just like the M2 in that regard. Fully adjustable.

kurtm
Matter of fact now that I am no longer with Benelli I am going back to my trusty old M1 field! I figure since it only has 235,000 on it it still has plenty of life left!
02Fatboy
I have a M1. Great gun just add a tube. Edited February 18, 2014 by 02Fatboy
openclassterror
Can't go wrong for that price. Worst case if you don't like it you won't lose money selling it. I would tube it and run the cr@p out of it! Maybe weld the lifter fork and round the corners on the loading port once you decide you want to keep it. I run a 26" barrel and I have never felt that it was too long.
bigbrowndog
if its an older M1that has the older lifter with less divot in the lifter you won't need to weld it, slight curve to the end is good, half circle may need welding. trapr
sheepdog566
Picked it up for 670.00. Gun looks new except for one scratch in the loading port area which I will probably be grinding on anyways. Does a Nordic +7 run flush or just in front of a 26" barrel. sheepdog566
Does the recoil buffer spring need to be changed to run 1oz 1 oz 1/8 loads reliably?
HRider
My M1 runs all but the 26gram featherlight loads reliably. It is stock, except for a Nordic tube, clamp, spring and follower and a longer fiber front sight. I have the older shell carrier (some say lifter), it has not been welded nor does it need to be for me. Hurley
bigbrowndog
it might you just won't know till you try them, there is no way of telling what they put in the gun at the factory. Trapr HRider, my nova runs stuff down to 22gm, so there Edited February 20, 2014 by bigbrowndog
roxymajor
Steve, great poster! How many times have I had to figure that out!
flannigun
Steve, great poster! How many times have I had to figure that out! I agree. For the amount of times people ask the question about barrel / tube length, could this pic become a sticky?
twodelta
You'll love the M1. I have an M1, and had Steve Rose cut the barrel down to 21". I put a Nordic extended bolt handle and +5 tube on it. Also added Taran's extended bolt release and lifters. I wanted to keep the stock lifter just in case I had issues. Runs like a top. The extended bolt handle and bolt release aren't necessary. I only added the lifter so my wife could load it easier. She has small thumbs, and would get it caught occasionally. I paid $700 for it a few years ago, and with all the add on's and Steve's work I'm still cheaper than a stock M2.
Daveo52
A few bits on the M1 are arguably better made than on the M2.
sheepdog566
I just ordered a taran lifter, safety, bolt release, bolt handle, and Nordic +7. Last night I started opening up the loading port and will soon start stippling. I know its not needed but I love doing my little home gun smithing jobs. J.Schmitt
Would not trade my m1 for an m2. I did what Trapr has said, after I cut the stock I added a Kick Ezz pad. Jay
HRider
Trapr, you need to send your Nova to Red Neck Tactical or somebody, my Nova will run dummy rounds. Hurley

Fully adjustable. The M1 and M2 will not interchange shims. Found out the hard way myself. If you buy shims make sure you order the right ones for your gun.
