GrumpyOne
I've tried waxing them, oiling them, buffing them, just about everything....trying something new tonight...took the guts outta them, got them in a toaster oven at 500 degrees, then gonna dip them in cold motor oil...thoughts? mgardner
If they are rusting you must chemically remove the rust then oil them. I use Kano Silikroil which eats rust and when wiped dry will leave some protection. If you don't get rid of the rust it will just keep coming back. Sarge
Chrome them? APW lists it as a service. I get very faint rust dust on my STI's and thought about it.

Andreas
I wipe mine down with Smooth Kote from Sentry Solutions. No problems with rust. It also doesn't attract fouling and dirt like oil does.

Samuel Adams
I took fine steel wool to mine and applied McGuiar's car wax. The rust hasn't returned.

steel1212
I buy AFC mags then have them Cerakoted. NEVER have had a rust issue.

mikebravo
another easy fix is to take desiccant out of jerky bags (or wherever else you can find them) and throw them in with your gear. It works wonders. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
BeerBaron
I rub them LIGHTLY with a very fine sandpaper block. like 2000grit. only in the really rusty spots. I then spray silicone spray onto a rag and rub them with that. after that they are good for a few months unless I go to a rainy match and the get nicely wet. after that just a quick wipe with the rag with silicone sprayed on and they're good to go again. practical_man
CorrosionX works pretty well for me. Not nearly as cool as chrome tho
The Antichrome
Buy the plated mags.
CZinSC
Wipe them down with a silicon rag after you use them and before you put them away. No rust. Don't it, yes, they will get rust. I bought one of those cheap Silicon rags and then got a Spray can of Silicon at the auto parts store. Just spray down the rag every couple of weeks to keep it fresh. Keep it in a ziploc bag. justaute
My "old" MecGar mags got the Nickel Boron (similar to NP3) treatment. Now they don't rust and release from the magwell easily. If I remember correctly, the cost is around $9/mag if you meet a certain volume.
MickB
I used to live in Gainesville, FL. Everything rusts there. Even would stocks grow moldy. I now live in AZ where nothing rusts.... :-) Mick
GrumpyOne
Well, I bought some Krud Kutter rust remover...read all the instructions and followed them....soaked the mags in it for 30 minutes...then read the very last fine print...Firearms: Blueing is dissolved instantly by the remover.... Got me some shiny in the white mags now!
GrumpyOne
On the plus side, I might have found a place to get them plated...
JimmyZip
Let them rust again, spray them with rust encapsulate, steel wool, repeat, then oil them. Or liver of sulfur, or cupric nitrate for color and steel wool repeat until you get your desired color. They will be patina of your liking. 98sr20ve
Couldn't you just lightly paint them. They will scratch up but the rust will not grow where they get scratched. For the most part. Silcone to keep it at bay in the scratchs.
GrumpyOne
Gonna send them off to get coated/plated...need more info on both processes...
BeerBaron
probably not suitable for paint. a very thin coating could work and obviously blueing works fine. paint will probably be too thick and may cause mag hang-ups.
