  2. I don't post much anymore because there's too much twaddle here. USPSA management reminds me of a few of the investment bankers I worked with in the past -- they couldn't manage their way out of a paper-sack. Just because USPSA HQ's mis-steps don't affect the operations of local clubs, that does not mean everything is copacetic. Not sure whether there's duplicity or just mere incompetence within the organization. Nonetheless, from an outsider's vantage point, there is something amiss with this soap-opera -- any competent manager can see it.

  4. garp...you'll often hear or read the term "fail to engage" within the USPSA community; however, such a phrase does not exist. The appropriate phrase is "...fails to shoot...". See Rule 9.5.7.

My question is not centered around the extra shots/hits, it's regarding whether is an additional procedural penalty for not following the procedure, which I do not believe there is. The additional "procedural" penalty would thus double-penalize the shooter -- not something we want.
  7. aztecdriver -- thanks for the input. Rule 9.4.5 addresses the penalties associated with both extra shots/hits. I think that's pretty straight-forward. In short, I didn't think there would be any additional procedural penalty for taking extra shots, which would already be penalized under 9.4.5.1. High Lord -- Good reference. Thanks.
  8. Context: Rule 9.4.5 stipulates the penalties associated with extra shots and extra hits. Over the weekend, I heard someone mention that in addition to the penalties associated with 9.4.5, a procedural penalty is also assessed. Question: Does 10.1.1 apply to Virginia-count stages when a competitor fires extra shots/hits? 10.1.1 Procedural penalties are imposed when a competitor fails to comply with procedures specified in a written stage briefing. The Range Officer imposing the procedural penalties must clearly record the number of penalties, and the reason why they were imposed, on the competitor’s score sheet. Supposition: 10.1.1 is the only rule I can find that could possibly be applied to the above-mentioned situation. For Virginia-count stages, I thought 9.4.5 is a self-contained rule that governs all penalties in connection with extra shots/hits; thus, no other procedural penalties may be assessed. Thanks.

  15. I have extra 17-rd plastic baseplates, but no plate retainer. If someone wants to trade 19-rd plates for them, let me know. I'd be happy to trade multiple 17-rd for one 19-rd.
  16. Given the human nature, I think it's best to have either "fit-the-box" approach or "strict list" approach. Anything in-between just creates too many issues. Of course, USPSA barely enforce anything as it is. My opinion is if you don't enforce it, don't have the rule.
  17. -- I'm sure most A6 shooters are great people, not unlike those of USPSA membership. -- Given USPSA's current management structure and remuneration, I wouldn't even begin to consider running. Now I don't know if all that we have read is from A6 members. Some folks like to invoke a riot here and there. But I can assure you most like 97% of A6 are really some of the best people you will ever meet. Just thinking sounds like you may be a strong canadate. Hint, hint. Lol

  19. Watching a few kids from my alma mater competing at the US Track & Field Championship on TV...I threw javelin in college and played/coached volleyball. The more I think about and play my other sports, the more disappointed I am about the game of USPSA. To be fair, in the 3 years since I shot my first USPSA match, I have met some great people. However, watching from the sidelines of how USPSA manages this organization has really changed the way I view USPSA. Having advised, invested, and operated large companies, I do see the potential of this organization. Alas, the combination of this cheating scandal, underwhelming experience at 2013 Production Nations, and deficient USPSA administration, leaves me aghast. USPSA really is a fun, addicting game. It's a volunteer-sport, but it doesn't mean it can't be professionally operated. At our local matches, I try to help as much as possible, from helping set-up/-down to designing stages. If USPSA turns-out to be basically just a collection of local shooting evens to satisfy people who own firearms, then that's ok. If we want USPSA to be more expansive than that, well, I truly believe meaningful changes need to be made. Having read many of the postings on A6's FB page, and a few others, makes me wonder whether there are capable professionals within our community who'd be willing to help. There were certainly a lot of unprofessional, un-civil postings in connection with the cheating scandal. "Sometimes, incompetence is useful. It helps you keep an open mind."

  21. I think we've deviated from the pith of this thread. That said, Doodie forum has its value(s). If you can put up with crass, foul language, and surly attitude, it's fine. I was a member of Doodie v.1, but have not registered for its latest incarnation. I don't think it's a particularly helpful place for people just starting. Although I don't subscribe to the styles of many Doodie members, the forum does provide a place to vent and to "freely" express your views. To each's own. Clearly, we need to give Doodie members credit for uncovering (assuming they did) the +2 issue and highlighting it publicly. Even though I don't care of the invective used by a few Doodie members on FB, that's a different matter.
  22. Should a complete restructuring is needed, which requires a full-time president, then the renumeration package should also be adjusted. I would never do both, I think the membership deserves more than a part-time position. USPSA needs a top-down overhaul and that's going to take a significant commitment from the President.
  23. yah...don't do that. It's not worth it. Unless, you can do both. I'm thinking about it.... The salary is a bit of an issue for me, I would have to quit my job so I could devote all the time that the position requires and if what I have heard of the salary (about 50K) is accurate then it amounts to a significant pay cut for me.
  24. Paul...we'll remember. If there's something I can do right now, I would. The bigger question is...will we have competent candidates? Are you going to run?
