GlennRasch
Here a few pics of a 6in sight tracker that I worked on this weekend , ALL STAINLESS STEEL... grip, frame, slide. SV grip with one of the new Phoenix Trinity stainless frames and a Caspian slide. I'm going to try to shoot it this weekend and do some testing. Penguin
That's PURDY!!!! A dumb question: Is there a chance that Stainless steel can bind / gall? (i.e. with friction against other stainless parts?)
GlennRasch
That's PURDY!!!! A dumb question: Is there a chance that Stainless steel can bind / gall? (i.e. with friction against other stainless parts?) The frames are made from 17-4 stainless which has a high strength and has a Awesome resistance to galling and seizing. The frames are very hard to machine on, when cutting a ramp area,I usual run about 1000 rpm, had to back down around 700. The thing I found is that not so much the frame to slide , but the barrel hood on the inside of the slide. The slide want's to grab the hood and go to lock up before it's time. If you look at a Para barrel on one of there stainless guns the hood area in front of the lugs is about .005 thousands smaller to stop the grabbing, or what I'm going to do is hard chromed or TIN coated the barrel. It doesn't hurt to use a little extra oil.. Edited February 11, 2013 by S&W WHEELNUT
