apriav
OK guys for carry 9MM in a 3 inch barrel, is it better to have light fast bullet 124gr or a heavy slower 147gr bullet.
warpspeed
If I carried, I'd shoot the CorBon stuff. 125 gr @ 1250.
ltdmstr
+1 for CorBon.
polizei1
I carry a Harrison SA EMP 3" in 9mm and carry 124gr Speer Gold Dots. I tried the 115's and 147's and didn't like them as much. I also shoot 124's for USPSA.
XD Niner
There are a ton of ammo tests in balistic gelatin on You Tube. The results are very enlightening and helped me pick my 9mm defensive ammo,
RangerTrace
My opinion is purely based on results I (or my friends) have witnessed at work. I would NEVER carry 147 grain 9mm ammo if I had a choice. Velocity is your friend with pistol bullets. My duty round for 9mm is Speer Gold Dot 124 grain +P. I would prefer +P+, but it's not on our approved list.
Steve RA
Hornady Critical Defense is pretty accurate, but, I haven't shot anyone with it. Video: Edited December 24, 2012 by Steve RA
Hi-Power Jack
. Velocity is your friend with pistol bullets. My duty round for 9mm is Speer Gold Dot 124 grain +P. I would prefer +P+, +1. I remember reading, many years ago, that a large state dep't had switched over to +P+ 9mm loads (115 or 124's, I believe), and in 1,000 or so shootings after that switch, NOT ONE perp ever returned effective fire after being hit with a solid hit. With a short (3") barrel, you should test the velocity of each round (or find them on the internet) - depending on the powder used, a brand might lose more or less FPS than another brand. But, I'd definitely stay with a Fast, Light bullet - Matter of fact, I do
SLM
Maybe take a look at the Speer Gold Dot 124 +P short barrel. It's listed at over 1100 FPS.
