"Dr Trigger Jerkenstein" first shot - Shadow Custom

OpenDot

Recommended Posts

I'm about ready to switch back to Glock for production and deal with the crappy triggers they have!!! :surprise::angry2::roflol: .

I shoot Open and i'm spoiled by my 1.5lb triggers on both my Open Race Guns. But I like shooting production for the reload experience as my Open Guns are Belt-Fed and reloading is rare.

Every stage 1st shot... Hi, my name is Mike!!! I'm trying to slowly start squeezing the trigger during the draw so when the sights are on A, the trigger will break....that's not happening at all, i'm jerking the first shot every time. Even in dryfire I can see the front sight move. Now if I take all day to do so the sight doesn't move. But as soon as I hear "Beep!!!" I become "Dr Trigger Jerkenstein" on the first shot. That 5-6lb DA Pull is KILLING ME!!!!!!!!! SA is fine, it's just under 3lbs or so.

1. Is there a way to lower the DA Pull lb wise?

2. Should I just take it to Angus' shop and let them rework the trigger and try again?

3 Should I sell the CZ and just stick to Open, drink more Beer and go back to the Open Guns - 9/38 reloading section's and watch more Porn? :goof:

I love the CZ in every way except that first damn shot!!!!!!!!!

I have mine set up at 4.25#. Actually got it down slightly under 4#, but the trigger return spring was just too mushy for me. Aside from the initial action/trigger work I used the CGW 8.5# mainspring. Keep in mind this setup will only break federal primers. I think Stewart offers similar trigger jobs and would probably be the best source for an ultra light DA trigger job.

train to make your DA pull part of your draw. when i'm drawing, i'm already pulling the trigger, so that by the time the sight picture is where i want it, i am already breaking the shot. it's a different platform for sure, it's just part of the game. :)

i've been pondering on making a video for just this. hm..

Dude, my first shot is 10lbs. Practice practice practice! There are no hardware solutions for software problems. Good luck, I know it takes a lot of work to get it down, but it's worth it. Once you can shoot this, you can shoot anything :)

I do a drill fairly often during practice where I shoot DA for 50 rounds in a row from a draw. You can learn to control the amount of trigger pull to complete before you get on target, it just takes some practice.

I also shoot 20 rounds or so slowly all in double action at 25 yards each range visit. I can shoot as accurately now in DA mode as I can in SA. But I couldn't at first.

I shoot SIGs and this new DA/SA CZ75B. Double action is a learned technique, just like single. But you can get the pull weight down also, primarily with a lighter hammer spring. I have settled on an 11.5 lb for now. The 8.5 was too light for Rem UMC with an occasional light strike.

i shot with an 11lb in the off season. i had an AD when i switched back to my 8lb trigger. gun went off a smidge too soon.

my face was like :surprise: the RO was like  and my friends behind me were like :roflol:

i got two matches this weekend and busy as all hell in the evenings. maybe i'll mute my conference call, say my webcam isn't working, and make a video anyways.

BurningSquirrels-

You are basically describing trigger prep right?? Take up slack to where it would be at SA then just a smidge to go boom.

So you start the trigger prep early? Like on the press out? I could see how a light trigger could be a disaster.

Video would be cool, I'd watch it. As long as it has a really dirty CZ in it....... :roflol:

I wish I had the time to get mine as well used!

Chucks link is the right way. Don't think of it as prep, think of it as a stroke. You don't want to really stop in the motion, or "stroke" at all. Once you learn follow through, and get your trigger stroke down, you will see a vast improvement on your overall trigger manipulation skills. That's my prediction anyway. ;)

Know your limitations. Work to inmprove the accuracy and speed of your first shot, BUT..... in the mean time, pick easy close up targets for your first shots, and they wil be more forgiving of a little bit of jerk. I do see guys draw successfully to 25 yard mini-poppers, but why risk it? Make it easy for yourself.

Remember, its just one shot out of potentially 32? 31 really nice trigger pulls usually offset having 32 crappy ones, for me.

I'm using the same 8.5# spring, but with the extened firing pin as well as the CGW short throw disconnector.

I don't have a guage but I do have 4 open guns with pull just under 2# and the CZ single action feels like less than that. In the double action the thing that bugged me was the length of the pull, it made that first shot take seemingly forever, with the short disconnect the pull is shortened a lot, a bit stiffer on the pull but the shorter throw makes it a lot better.

I use Winchester SPP with no failures to fire in about 2K. CGW says Federal only, well I have Win so I use WIN, YMMV.

I don't stage the pull on the DA, I just pull it and hits are good. A certain Master Class SS shooter I know ran a glock the other day and got DQ for shooting thru the table, was staging that trigger.

I prep the trigger right as the gun is pointed toward the target but before it is on the target, at least on the SIG DA/SA. Just converted my CZ to SAO last night so I will try that for a few weeks. I shoot ESP even with the SIG, so I have some options. Nothing but IDPA out where I live.

When I first started with DA guns..I would have two groups. one low left for the DA first shot and one at POA for all the other shots.

it took about 100 rounds of concerted livefire practice with DA only shots to bring that group up to the rest.

it will take some time, effort and attention to bring the skill to the level you want it. be patient and keep working on it.

learning to prep the trigger and getting most of the movement out of it before you break the shot is important.

YOU CAN DOOOO IT! :D

Corey, I think nailed it. Slow down to go fast. If your first shot is .002 seconds after the buzzer, and it misses, and you don't make it up (or even if you do make it up), how many points and how much time have you gained by trying to go so fast?
