Dixie
Has anyone from the U.S. that is going to Rhodes for World Shoot figured out how they are going to get there? Airlines? What countries not to go through? Is Amsterdam OK to have a stop over? I have found a flight that is Memphis to Amsterdam on Delta and then Amsterdam to Athens on KLM and Aegean (sp?) to Rhodes. BritinUSA
I have heard of some people planning flights via Germany. There is a thread about travel plans at the IPSC Global Village. pjb45
Last I heard there were only a couple of berms built for the World Shoot. Greece is on its way to financial collapse. I wonder if this is going to effect their ability to put on the World Shoot.
Cardinal
As I understand it, the Greek nationals is being held this weekend on the same range, so I guess will know shortly how much progress have been made...

lneel
It had bays....just not the 30+ required for the WS. We should get more info after this weekend's Greek Nationals (among other Greek issues). Believe me, as I have already booked everything to go to the WS I am more nervous than most. The lack of info is extremely disheartening and if my son was not on the offical USPSA Open Junior National Team I would have passed on the stress. shooterbenedetto
I read that Regional directors will register all the competitors. I guess I dont have to register.
norbs007
You still have to submit a Firearms and Ammunition form by month's end.
lneel
You still have to submit a Firearms and Ammunition form by month's end. Done, as is registering for the hotel through the Match Organizer's. US Customs Forms for the guns have be gotten, copies made, passports done. Communications with all 3 airlines involved in getting there and back done....guns/ammo carry set to the lowest common requirement of guns in locked hardsided case (disassembled because an assembled gun with no ammo might go off ), ammo will be boxed in foam/cardboard boxes like factory ammo so no one can cry....left plenty of time between flights to insure we can get there on time. Actually we will arrive on 9-30 if all goes well giving us 3 days before the match to get used to the time changes and shake off the jet lag. CHA-LEE
I wish you guys the best out there. With all of the political and social unrest out there I would be really leery about even flying into that country much less participating in a match over there
pjb45
I lived on a Greek Island when I was attached to the Embassy on Cyprus. We had two cab drivers that took care of all our needs. You needed a local license, they got it for you. You needed a mechanic, they found one. I bet Rhodes will be no different. Go to a website for Rhodes and start poking around. But quite frankly, Greece has some real financial issues. In the 1950s Greece almost went communist. Heavy US intervention prevented it. Greece is pretty socialistic. The military has stepped in more than once to stem the tide to prevent them from going totally socialistic. Recent years the government over-subsided the workforce and now are paying the price of national debts. I am not sure about going there now. I had planned on taking my family but some unforeseen circumstances precluded that plan. Now I am kind of glad I did not register and buy tickets. BritinUSA
The final results of the Hellenic Nationals has been posted on the IPSC Global Village. There were 15 stages, both Eric Grauffel and Max Michel were taking part in Open. Eric won by about 80 points, just under 9%.

LimitedGirl
I read somewhere that Max Michel had trouble to get on plane with 1000rds ammo during Greece National. He forced to leave 550rds behind. Does any of you called airline and asked for permission to bring more than 5kg ammo? Just wonder what's the solution of this since I'm going to shoot 9mm major which doesn't have match ammo at all. Taking ferry isn't an option since my arrival date doesn't have any ferry schedule to Rhode (I arrive at 10/1 and the match start at 10/3)
BritinUSA
My understanding is that IATA regulations are mandatory for the airlines. They are not a guideline as they are under FAA. So the 5kg restriction is mandatory. This is 5kg per person, so if you are flying with someone who is not shooting then they MAY be able to also bring 5kg. The other option is to ship it over, but I'm not sure what is involved in that... I've asked on the Global Village to see if there is any other option for 9mm Major Edited July 18, 2011 by BritinUSA

LimitedGirl
Thanks Paul! I saw your post in Global Village. Hope someone has answer for your question.
BritinUSA
From the Global Village: The 9mm major loadings are not listed, because no one major commercial ammo company loads 9mm major, due to there is no SAAMI or CIP specifications.Only small private owned companies in US loads upon request or hand loaded by the shooter himself. The total amount of 9mm cartridges (124 grains)equals 5 Kg is around 370. So it appears that you will need to find some way to get your ammo over there... NB: Orders for OMA must be in by the deadline below: You will have to send me your orders by the 30th of July and as for the payment by the 20th of August.
