Sam
How can one use words to explain the concept of living boldly? This is an interesting puzzle for me. You know when you are living it. It's a thrill, for sure. But, I just can't find accurate words to relay the feeling.
High Lord Gomer
I've seen different variations, but never who the quote was from: Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to slide in sideways, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, screaming "HOLY $%!^ what a ride!" High Lord Gomer
LOL! When I first arrived at the Univ. of MD in '83, my unknown-to-me roomate had already moved in and that quote from Def Leppard was on a sign on his desk. Being young and having grown up on the music of the inbred, I didn't get the quote and thought I was stuck with a pot-head. Graham Smith
Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Though wise men at their end know dark is right, Because their words had forked no lightning they Do not go gentle into that good night. Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight, And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way, Do not go gentle into that good night. Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. And you, my father, there on the sad height, Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray. Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light. I've got a couple of them, but they aren't family friendly for posting here. Google Images for "anteater" or "johnny cash salute". Ron Ankeny
As I enter into a new phase of life, I am trying to figure out the difference between being bold vs. being irresponsible. benos
When living boldly, you are speaking and acting without fear. Good stuff - thank you Sam. Ron, IMO, irresponsible is irresponsible, and fearless is fearless. And the little voice from down deep inside that's never wrong will tell you when which is which. be
Duane Thomas
If If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you; If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too; If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies, Or, being hated, don't give way to hating, And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise; If you can dream - and not make dreams your master; If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim; If you can meet with triumph and disaster And treat those two imposters just the same; If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools, Or watch the things you gave your life to broken, And stoop and build 'em up with wornout tools; If you can make one heap of all your winnings And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss, And lose, and start again at your beginnings And never breath a word about your loss; If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew To serve your turn long after they are gone, And so hold on when there is nothing in you Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on"; If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch; If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you; If all men count with you, but none too much; If you can fill the unforgiving minute With sixty seconds' worth of distance run - Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it, And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son! -Rudyard Kipling
HS101
As I enter into a new phase of life, I am trying to figure out the difference between being bold vs. being irresponsible. Is it more bold to stick it out and to the very end, or is it better, to say the heck with it and After Brian's response, mine may seem a little naive.... Being Bold is living to tell about it and appreciating it when it is over... Being irresponsible is getting caught or regretting your choices after they are over. Sam
Some of these posts reminded me of this unique point of view. The Paradoxical Commandments by Dr. Kent M. Keith People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered. Love them anyway. If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives. Do good anyway. If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies. Succeed anyway. The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway. Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable. Be honest and frank anyway. The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds. Think big anyway. People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs. Fight for a few underdogs anyway. What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight. Build anyway. People really need help but may attack you if you do help them. Help people anyway. Give the world the best you have and you'll get kicked in the teeth. Give the world the best you have anyway. © Copyright Kent M. Keith 1968, renewed 2001
