  1. mine was a little crooked, just nudged the case feeder a bit to the side and tightened it up.
  2. any thoughts on how the primary arms 1-6 stacks up in this list or is it just too new (i.e. not enough time in hands) to tell?
  3. good to know they're interchangeable, no i only need to stock one kind of recoil spring
  4. I am also using a Lone Wolf conversion barrel in my G35 to shoot more affordable 9mm reloads. I've had no problems using the stock G35 recoil spring and ejector using 115gr FMJ over 4.3 gr titegroup.
  5. ordered some glock springs from shooters connection and asked them if they had any reduced power recoil springs for a 4.25" M&P 9mm. they said no but "you can use the recoil springs from a full size glock" i.e. a 17/22, 34/35, etc. springs showed up and I figured what the heck, might as well give it a try. unfortunately, as much as I wrestled with the captured recoil spring guide from my M&P, i could not get the hex nut off of the end to remove the captured spring. I noticed that both recoil spring assemblies looked very similar in size so for the heck of it, i figured i would try swapping the hole assembly. glock gen 3 Jager Captured Recoil Spring Steel Guide w/ISMI spring on top, factory S&W M&P guide rod and spring on bottom' Jager Captured Recoil Spring Steel Guide Rod from my G35 appears to fit perfectly! I (wisely, i might add) refrained from live fire testing in my basement but will give it a try at the range over the weekend, wanted to ask if anyone else has any experience with this swap and if it works as well as it looks like it might?
  6. i see a QD mount version is available but don't see any reference to a bobro mount in trijicon's materials. ar15.com thread was from may 2013 so maybe they had some early release info that didn't pan out? either way, at more than $2K it's shortcomings are probably not real-world problems for me
  7. can you post a pic of the reticle when your scope arrives? Have seen the pictures on primary arms sight, keen to see what it actually looks like against a target field (or any real world background). Thanks!
  8. okay, not that i'm running out tomorrow to drop >$2K on an optic, but the scope+base construction is a deal killer for me, robs me of any flexibility to move the scope forward or back within the rings in order to get optimal head position while keeping mount solely on the upper. it's possible that the eye relief would just be perfect and I wouldn't need to worry about this but that's a big bet to make when i'm dropping that kind of cash on a scope.
  9. Sorry for your loss. thanks for sharing a great story with your dad.
  10. one final word on the matter: "SIRT" have a good trip and best wishes for safe travel home
  11. Had to post this as a follow up. Lexis cite is here Law360, New York (September 16, 2013, 8:54 PM ET) -- The Third Circuit said Friday that the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey may continue to confiscate the firearms of non-New Jersey residents traveling through Newark Liberty International Airport, ruling a federal law protecting gun owners does not apply when walking through an air terminal. In a precedential decision, the three-judge panel unanimously held that the Firearms Owner Protection Act’s “safe passage provision” — a law allowing people to pass from state to state with their firearms — only protected people traveling by “vehicle,” including car, train and plane. FOPA’s protections do not apply when a person walks through an airport terminal to his flight, the court stated.
  12. traveler was Greg Revell, stranded at Newark airport overnight while travelling with a lawfully owned, properly declared unloaded handgun in his checked baggage. Spent 10 days in jail in Newark before bonding out. My $0.02 - i would never travel with firearms into NJ from out of state. My limited experience with NJ LE is that the laws themselves are irrelevant as you may be arrested solely on the misinformed discretion of any law enforcement officer. Sorting out his (or her) mistakes can cost you thousands (or tens of thousands) of dollars and immeasurable aggravation.
  13. this. when you fire a round in a chamber that has headspace near the maximum specification, the brass expands during firing to form to the (larger) chamber. When you prep that brass, you resize and trim it down but the cartridge walls have already thinned to some degree as brass stretched (expanded) during the previous firing in the larger chamber. when you fire it again, if you're firing it in a loose chamber (or simply one that has any excess headspace) the brass will expand once more. at that point, the cartridge walls may be thin enough to separate and you'll see what's in the photo above.
  14. Not to be a smartass but i'd suggest the best and most economical brand of .45 and 9mm is the one you load yourself using range pickup brass if you've already decided reloading isn't for you, then pls disregard but if you're shooting a few thousand rounds a year then a sqaure deal b or 550 press will pay for itself in no time at all. you won't actually save much money but you'll end up being able to shoot 3 times as much for the same cost
  15. a few years back i picked up a case of qty 2,000 245 gr .44 plated projectiles - some closeout deal from black hills shooters supply at a price i couldn't pass up even though i did not shoot .44 magnum (or special) very often. finally got around to loading them up, loaded up one box of 500 projectiles and the ammo <almost> filled up a .30 ammo can. had a little room left in it for some more ammo so a few days later when I had some free time i came back, opened up another carton of bullets and loaded up another 75 or so to top off the ammo can. I'm all done loading, have moved the loaded rounds into the ammo can of .44 ammunition. cleaning up the press and i'm dumping the leftover bullets from the 650 bullet tray back into their carton when my eye catches the little QC paper slip inside the carton of bullets. it doesn't say 245 gr, it says "200 gr FP". my reaction: if i'd opened up the new box of bullets right after finishing the first one, i would have easily noticed the difference in profile, but giving myself a few days in between loading sessions I didn't pick it up and didn't think to doublecheck the weight with a scale. luckily, the loaded rounds can easily be distinguished by eye so it only took 15 min or so to empty them out and cherry pick through them to separate the 75 oddballs with the 200 gr bullet from the 500 other loaded rounds loaded with 245 gr bullets. moral here for me is I should remember to do some simple QC every time i break open a new case of components as well as keeping an eye on things while I'm loading...
  16. Any moron with a crucible, an acetylene torch, and a cast iron waffle maker could have done the same. The whole thing only took me about 20 minutes. People who buy things are suckers. -Ron Swanson
  17. Congrats! I'm a huge fan of anything that is paid off and runs reliably.
  18. A few years back I attended a kyle lamb pistol class in CA, brought a s&w m&p in 9mm and bought 5 10-round magazines just for the class to take with me. Couple of guys from the sheriff's office in san jose who were there told me I could have brought my hi-caps and "no one at the class" would have hassled me but they also ackowledged they could not speak for anyone else (I.e. TSA o n outbound bag check, etc.) I wasn't willing to chance it.
  19. Sorry to hear your dad is in poor health, best wishes for his quick recovery.
  20. huge difference in rigidity between the injection molded plastic and actual kydex. spend for the kydex product, you'll save money over buying the revolution only to eventually dump it and then have to buy kydex anyway
  21. Just bought one of these for my son - works great!
  22. and the verdict here is that I may just be mentally impaired. I was positive I'd bought the correct sights, which in this case is dawson's recommended .285" front sight that works with their M&P adjustable rear. accordingly, all of my math and corrective adjustments were based on this (faulty) notion that i was starting out with the correct equipment. got dawson on the phone to get some assistance and the first thing they noticed is what I should have seen staring me in the face on my invoice - i somehow ordered a .190" tall front sight instead of the recommended .285". doh! not sure how i messed that up (i actually placed the order with the dawson support guy walking me through since i couldn't figure out what i needed just by consulting their site). Anyway, they sorted it out and with the correct front sight (.285") I'm getting hits dead on at 14 yards with the rear sight a few clicks up from bottomed out. Only had time to check POA/POI at one distance (which happened to be 14 yards) at my last visit, will check out point of impact at 10, 20, 25 yards when i get more time back on the range. /cue rosanne rosanna danna voice never mind.
