loading 100 yard .223 ammo, i've never bothered with chamferring or deburring. i prep on a dedicated toolhead with a dillon trimmer, and have so far had no problems seating 55 gr ball bullets on the unchamfered case neck. accuracy has always been more then sufficient for me - 1 to 1.5" @ 100 yards. i'm sure you could tighten up the groups with better brass prep, bullet selection, improved rifle or better shooter, but it's been good enough for me... ymmv depending on what you're loading for. -jared

+1 on that load. i typically load 24 gr 2230 and WSR primer under hornady or montana gold 55 gr fmj, last time i chrono'd that I was getting around 2900 fps and roughly 1.5" (more or less) at 100 yards. -jared

Wanted to ask: what if any special brass prep or neck expansion are people performing to assist with bullet seating using Mr. Bulletfeeder? Background: bought the bulletfeeder a few years back when it was sold under the KISS name, have been very satisfied used it for .45, 9mm, and .38, finally bought the conversion for .223. For pistol calibers, it was important to bell the cartridge mouth just a bit to ensure that the bulletfeeder could "place" the bullet into the cartridge mouth. keen to hear from others who are using it for .223 - what if anything are you doing to the .223 case mouth or neck to make it work with the Mr. Bulletfeeder unit? I will be loading 55 gr ball (hornady or montanta gold - both a boattail bullets) and am prepping brass on separate toolhead, which includes running expander ball through re-sized brass as last step in brass prep. Had spoken with Rick from Mr. Bulletfeeder and he'd suggested using a lyman m die or just using a screwed down dillon swaging die to open up the cartridge mouth a small amount - i'm open to either, just interested in hearing from other folks about what they have tried and what has (or has not) worked. thanks in advance, jared

Savage 10PC vs. Remington 700SPS Tactical
jaredr replied to RangeOfficer2002's topic in Precision Rifle
FWIW, savage 10 pc is a great buy if you're just going to shoot it stock and burn out the barrell for trigger time. Don't know anything first hnd about commissioning a custom rifle, but remington is the platform i see advertised by most custom gunsmiths. -jaredr -
saw these on the latest brownells flyer, anyone have any experience with them? look like they have a lower profile then my peltor 6's (which would help with rifle) and are less expensive then MSA/Sordin's. appreciate any feedback anyone can provide on them! -thanks, jaredr

awesome, i'll keep my eyes open for the brownells/midwayusa email flyers! thanks for the heads up. -jaredr

+1 Nothing I've seen comes close. I wish they'd make them for .22 mags! R, I guess they heard ya: http://maglula.tripo.../BabyUpLULA.htm ahh bummer, saw the link and was hoping it would support blackdog magazines for AR .22lr conversion kits... ah well. best i've seen so far is this, but it looks like it will work about the same as the homemade manual loader i made by cutting down a spare glock mag loader. if anyone has any suggestions for a better way to load ar rimfire conversion mags, i'm all ears !! -jared

i've got 3 year and about 110K cartridges cleaned through mine with no problems, but i'm expecting (hoping?) for much more before any motor service required. not sure what the service life is of the brushes, curious to know if anyone's got any feedback on that? -jaredr

it was the scone part that did it for me

obligatory plug recommending ordering from brian! -jaredr

for the volume you've described, the 750 should be more than enough. if you have the space to accomodate the 2000 (and also the tub and separator as fioxbat mentioned) then the 2000 becomes useful if you're prepping 1000+ .cartridges at a time. i've got one and like it very much, but i've accumulated a large amount of .223 cases and will try and brass prep them in batches of 5 gallon bucket at a time... -jaredr

this whole thread has me thinking of the michael mann movie "thief" with james caan...

you may want to just check a local machine shop and see what they would charge you. including set up time, you can do both operations in under an hour, so I expect you'd save a fair bit of $ just by avoiding shipping charges (you'd have to ship by overnight using fedex, and pay return shipping from the gunsmith same way - cannot use cheaper USPS if you're not an FFL). my $.02 -jaredr

came out looking great, congrats!

worth checking out this thread here - VelocityShooter has (or had) S&W VTAC's for $1299 shipped. not under $1100, but an outstanding price (my opnion) for what you get. -jaredr

remington 7 1/2 vs. winchester small rifle primer?
jaredr replied to jaredr's topic in Rifle/Shotgun
thanks, keen to hear what you find. -
can't edit my post above, but stand corrected. havejust been looking into remington primers and found that most people indicate you should not use their standard 6 1/2 primer, but instead use the 7 1/2. checked remington website and couldn't find anything there, and none of the reloading manuals I have mention remington primers (all showing federal or winchester primers). references i found indicated that the remington 7 1/2 is preferred over the 6 1/2 not because of the hotter spark, but because of the thicker cup which is more resistant to a pierced primer under pressure. -jaredr

have so far always used WSR primers for .223 (typically 24 gr of AA2230 & 55gr hornady or montana gold fmj). like most, i'm having difficulty getting any more, but one distributor has indicated I may have better luck with remington. subject line pretty much says it all - anyone have any first hand experience for/against the remington 7 1/2? would like to check before i convert my backorder and end up with a gajillion of them. thx in advance, jaredr
