Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Just a quick follow up from the OP. I drove to Modesto (CA) today to have Dave Lake at Sierra Arms drill and tap my older model 586 S&W. He also had to mill my Weigand scope mount in order to clear my bull barrel. He did all of this as well as install the mount in less than an hour. His work was perfect and the price was more than reasonable (actually cheap compared to the prices I got from S&W and a couple of other gunsmiths). He did all this while I waited in order to save me another drive from Rio Vista. I'm a very happy camper indeed! Thanks again Dan and John for recommending Dave. Kim
  2. Thanks, Dan. I'd appreciate that phone # when you get it. Kim Hi John Bagakis here, I have had Dave Lake at Sierra Arms in Modesto do work on a few of my Revolvers and he is very good! Give him a call and tell him Dan and I sent you! Dave also an excellent Rifle Gunsmith! Dave Lake Sierra Arms Modesto CA 209-544-1911 Thanks John Hey Dan and John, I just want to thank you guys for recommending Dave Lake at Sierra Arms. I just spoke to him and he quoted me a very reasonable price for the work I need done and he said that since I'm coming from Rio Vista that he'll do the work WHILE I WAIT! Weather permitting, I'm going there tomorrow. He also said very nice things about both of you guys. Thanks again, Kim

  4. I'm in Oakley, Ca about 15mi from you......I'll check with Bagakis and see if he has a ph# for a Smith in the Modesto area that's a shooter also. He's worked some magic with a few GM revo's out here..... Dan.... Thanks, Dan. I'd appreciate that phone # when you get it. Kim
  5. Thanks for the info, Mike. Guess I'll have to find a local smith. Kinda wish I'd spent my formative years learning how to be handy with tools.
  6. I'm located in Rio Vista, Ca. about 25 miles west of Lodi. There is a gunsmith in Stockton but his turn around time is 2 months. I'd send it to S&W but I don't think they would touch the Weigand scope base. I remember four or five years ago being able to send my gun via UPS to Clark's Custom Guns for the work they performed. Have the laws changed since then? I don't have a FFL but I imagine that Clark's does. Anyway, if someone knows a good gunsmith in my area please pass the info on. Thanks, Kim
  7. There seems to be at least a couple of revolver smiths on this site and I'm in need of a revolver smith. I have a pre '93 S&W 586 (not drilled and tapped for scope mount). This gun has a 1" slab sided bull barrel that was installed by Clark Custom Guns. I just received a Jack Weigand Weaver style scope base for my gun and I need to have the top strap drilled and tapped for it. I also need to have the front portion of the Weigand scope base milled/relieved(?) in order to fit over the bull barrel. If anyone here is able to do this work for me please let me know. Thanks, Kim
  8. Thanks for the replies, guys. I decided to go with the 30mm tube site from Ultradot. I'm not really sure what I'm going to use it for yet. I just know that my dominant eye is not up to using iron sights any longer. Kim
  9. Has anyone here had any experience with this C-More type of site? I'm thinking of using it on a bull barreled 586. Thanks, Kim
  10. I've found some Federal match grade small pistol primers for sale and would like to know if they are as suitable for lightened revolver actions as the standard primers are reputed to be. Kim
  11. I read on a PPC forum that HP-38 and WW231 are the same powder. I'm looking for a powder to load some low/mid range velocity 148 gr dewc for my S&W 586. I can't find any ww231 or bullseye powder on line right now so I'm looking for an alternative (Clays maybe?). Once again, any help will be greatly appreciated. Kim
  12. Thanks, Craig. I checked out their website and their prices and shipping sound very good. I guess I can't order online, so do I call them with my order and do they accept credit cards for payment? I'd call now but I'm in Ca. and I'm sure that it's getting late back there.
  13. I just checked shooters connection and they only seem to have .38 Super. I'm looking for some lead bullets, mainly .38 Spec 148gr WCs
  14. Does anyone know when Federal small pistol primers and WW 231 powder will be available? What is a good online source for these things when they do become available? Thanks, Kim
