  1. Thank you for the answer! Guess that makes sense.
  2. Can someone enlighten me as to the intent and purpose of the bolded part of this rule? Per 9.1.5 no-shoots are deemed as impenetrable. I am assuming that "impenetrable" and "hard cover" are synonymous. At a local match this weekend we were using no shoots to block part of a plate rack, so you were forced to move around to hit all the plates. Bad stage under this rule? Or did these targets have a function (as a penalty target) besides being hard cover? Thanks.
  3. Because it would be silly to have to engage the safety on an empty gun. I expect that on some guns it's mechanically impossible to engage the safety if the bolt carrier is locked back. Sort of like some pistols.
  4. The link for the multigun rules on uspsa's site goes to the 2012 addendum (not the full 2011 rules like it says), so I'm having trouble looking this up. In a multigun match, is it OK to "dump" a round while moving? Under handgun rules 10.4.6 this would be a DQ. For example, if I loaded an extra slug but hit the target with my first one. Is it OK to point the gun downrange, not at a target, and dump the spare slug while moving to the next (non-slug) target? Or similarly, if I just finished an array and know that I have one shell left it may be quicker to dump that one downrange while on the run and go to slide lock before putting it in the bucket and transitioning to the next gun.
  5. From glossary in appendix A3 "Shot . . . . . . .A bullet which passes completely through the barrel of a firearm." I agree they're absurd examples, but I'm just trying to take the definition and ruling based on it here to an extreme.
  6. I think the definition of a "shot" needs some clarification. If it's defined simply by a bullet passing through the barrel... What if the competitor in the example pulled out some tools and pounded the squib through before the COF was finished? Shot completed then and procedural penalty avoided? If you answered that in the affirmative, how is it different from after the COF if I go to the safety area and pound the squib through the barrel. That's a shot and I'm DQ'd by this definition.
  7. Go for the JP. Buy once, cry once, then be happy because you have the best. I had the AR10T fiberglass tube on mine, it's heavy, bulky, and slick as mentioned (easy to put grip tape on though). "Upgraded" to the Armalite aluminum vented one, and it's only marginally better. Still overly bulky and heavier than it needs to be. Darn near indestructible though, and the vents do allow mounting a Magpul AFG. Wish I'd have spent the money on a JP to start with. Thinner grip and I wouldn't need the AFG.
  8. Titegroup works too, feels about like N320 to me but dirtier. I use it for practice loads. 4.4gr of titegroup with a 180 plated at 1.135 is a favorite load that works great in all factory pistols I've tried. It's a bit hot to ensure major out of short barrels, you could probably make major with 4.2gr. I may have to order some of the new mags to try with that load.
  9. There's no rule prohibiting an RO from saying whatever he wants *after* the written stage briefing, as long as he's not adding rules or conditions to the stage. Myself, I'll make it clear that the WSB is finished before I add anything I may have to say. That may be things like: "If you shoot T4 from here you WILL be breaking the 180." "The wind has a tendency to blow the door back shut, so watch your muzzle." "Please paint the steel between every shooter." "When you're setting that activator be sure it's placed just so..." "Safety area is over there. Water jug is over here." "Remember to face downrange while doing your LAMR!" (had an RO at 2007 Nationals do that because he had DQ'd two people on a facing-uprange-start stage, and all he can do is watch them DQ themselves during the start because "face downrange" is not a range command).
  10. Well, can you educate me on "good" ammo? Seriously, I've always used the "cheap sh*t" and don't know what to look for or what to expect in better shotgun ammo. I just play for fun and am not in any danger of winning, so I have always stuck with the Walmart bulk pack Federal 7 1/2 and a light modified choke for everything. It works.
  11. 350-400yd is our far target. We can go out to 500yd, or 600 on some bays, but we don't have the bigger targets for it and there's no easy access road to get the jeep up there Just as difficult for me is the teeny tiny poppers we use at 100 yards.
  12. What's a coaster tie? Google has failed me
  13. I'm for limiting rifle rounds just to try to move some competitors out of tactical. I've been to matches where 90% of the entrants are tactical division. Whether this is a problem and if it's handled by doing something to make tactical less appealing or other divisions more appealing (the nerf/buff school of thought for those online gamers) is what we're here to discuss right? However, I think limiting mag length (not round count) and type (single or double stack only, no drums) is a good start. Measure a standard 30rd AR mag and add a mm or two as a fudge factor and make that your max length. A length is much easier to enforce than a round count, and adds no load for the RO during the COF. It works for limited/open pistol, right? 30 rds is a lot. If you can't plan out somewhere to reload within 30 rds you're doing it wrong... Even if a 30rd limit doesn't slow you down (from finding a spot to do a "free" mag change) vs a larger mag, it adds another dimension to the stage and it's one more mental piece of the game. Personally I like that part of practical shooting. Open should be the division where you just grab your gun and start [mindlessly?] hosing things down until there are no more targets.
  14. They do. I can't remember EVER being to a 3-gun match (granted I haven't attended that many) that advertised as following a certain rule set that did NOT have some sort of exception or change. Everyone's gotta monkey with it, I don't get it. One match claimed as being USPSA multigun rules and when I pointed out to the MD that this was an outlaw match due to his rule changes (treatment of clays and some scoring of long range targets) he went ballistic insisting that "we are NOT an OUTLAW match!". Whatever bud... went my way and tried to have fun shooting the match.
  15. I only have a couple hundred rounds through mine, but I can comment a little on the lower. It hasn't got any special features, it's just plain-jane. Tolerances were great. All the lower parts fit perfectly. No slop, no filing, etc. Mags stay in. My Geissle 3-gun trigger went right in and fit great. Also check PSA for lower parts kits. You can order one without the trigger group to save a few bucks and add the 3gun trigger like I did, or pick one of their packages with other triggers.
  16. I just finished a 3gun build with a PSA lower and upper (JP barrel and misc. other parts though). No matches yet but it works great. I don't expect any problems.
  17. I just got my MOE+ in and I really like it. Better than the ergo grip I had. The MIAD still fills out my hand better and if they made a rubber-coated MAID I'd be in heaven. Until then, the MOE+ gets my vote for multigun use.
  18. Good to have you here, Ed! Your product looks good (was looking at it before I saw it mentioned here) but out of my price range. Have you considered donating one to a major multigun prize table (like USPSA multigun nationals or a USPSA Area multigun match?). An excellent way to get one out there in the hands of a good shooter and to get your name out there.
  19. I'm curious about how USPSA would classify someone shooting this bullet with a built-in compensator. It looks like snake-oil to me and way too expensive to shoot in a match so I doubt we'd ever see one but it's the though exercise that counts ;-)
  20. So on this drill what should we be looking at? I mean, I can can pull the trigger as fast as I can while looking at my feet. Is it literally just dump the mag as fast as we can (I don't see what that will teach me) or are these fired as fast as we can reacquire the front sight?
  21. Ditto for what Tattoo says! You can't go wrong with the JP (very popular). The AP Custom tube is what I'm using: http://www.apcustomusa.com/ar15.html
  22. I went with the super light and it's working fine for me. The regular "light" carrier isn't much lighter than a standard carrier. The super light is only slightly heavier than the JP LMOS, I doubt the difference is enough to notice.
  23. Now why would you want to waste that extra $5 per thousand? It's more like $50 per thousand here, going from Montana Gold to Bayou. And I also save .3 grains of powder each round, woo-hoo Two years of that savings and I can buy another Tanfo!
  24. I'm switching to Bayou Bullets. Shot a sample of 100 earlier this year and chrono'd 100 rounds yesterday through the Limited. Barrel was amazingly clean. No smoke either with VV N320 powder
