  1. Sorry to hear about your problems. I just wanted to add that I'm using a LNL AP with Hornady dies and I'm having zero problems with case ejection. I would suggest going with a Hornady taper crimp die and getting a new ejection wire if you've tweaked or modified yours at all. However, I do have problems with the case feeder. I think it's just about dialed in now, but it wa a long road getting there. It seems that .40 is sort of the perfect in-between size for the case feeder--the "small" parts are too small and the "large" parts are too large.
  2. If you really want to be freaked out, try this: http://www.sithsense.com username: bk password: int3rna1r3v13w (click the remember password button) This was a promotion that burger king did a few years ago to tie into Star Wars.
  3. Your statement needs to be qualified with "while maintaining the same power factor". Physics lesson time (I knew that minor in physics would come in handy some day ) The reason we get this effect is because PF is based on the momentum (MV) of the bullet, the formula for which is mass * velocity. Recoil is mostly based on Kinetic Energy (KE), the formula for which is .5 * mass * velocity * velocity, or simplified (mv^2)/2 As a result of this if you double the mass and halve the velocity you get the same MV while getting 1/2 of the KE. This is also how the energy of a bullet is computed. To be fair, competitions should use KE rather than MV to measure a cartridge's effectiveness. I think it would be correlated closer to recoil than MV is. However, I'm not advocating changing IPSC rules. I have no issue with the rules now, as long as everyone plays by the same rules it's a level field. Plus the formula now is much simpler. I can imagine some people having trouble with (grains * fps^2) [you don't need to convert to metric units or use the /2 since we're just after numbers for a comparison]
  4. Rainier 180gr plated bullets are $80 per 1000 from Midway, which is cheaper than the xtremebullets. I bought 1000 165 gr ones from them last year for practice loads and they worked fine. I like the idea of the all over plating, less smoke and lead vapor certainly can't hurt--can't be too safe when your health is on the line. I'll probably buy a bunch of the 180s this year for competition since the Montana Golds I was using went WAY up
  5. I thought I'd mention that the tubes fit the newer Hornady LNL AP just fine. This thing is such a time saver, I love it. I had to bevel the edges of the feed hole just slightly to get it to feed smoothly--10 seconds work with some sand paper. Since then it's been great.
  6. Thanks for the tips everyone, definitely good stuff to try!
  7. Hi all. I've been lurking for a while and may have posted a reply or two, but I believe this is the first topic I've started. I just started shooting USPSA this year. Partially because winter is about here, but mostly because there's nothing else nearby, I'm limited to practice in the local indoor range or dry-fire at home. I'm looking for suggestions for exercises and drills to do at the indoor range, or dry-fire at home. I'm limited in what I can do in that the muzzle has to be pointed down range at all times (I can't draw from holster, but I can pick it up off of the shelf in front of me) and that I can only fire at the one target in my lane. Indoor range is 25 yards max. I think I need to work on speed, especially target acqusition and switching between targets. The last few matches my scores have been pretty high, I'm just too slow. I would like to start learning how to shoot while moving too, but I realize that may be impossible given the restrictions, and that I probably need to get more of my basics down first. Thanks for the help! Tom.
  8. The USP Expert is DA/SA (decocker), or cocked-and-locked, operators choice. My expert came with a bobbed hammer and a detent plate that makes it SA only (I haven't installed them, I shoot L10 anyhow). The instructions said it was needed to fit in "the box" for IPSC. I don't believe USPSA has such restrictions though?
  9. I shoot a .40 USP Expert in L10. I agree that it's a heck of a gun, never a single malfunction here. As mentioned it's not on the list for production guns. I don't think the high bore axis is as big of deal as people make it out to be. I can't tell any difference although I'm just a new D-level shooter. I went with the Expert for several reasons: I'm an HK fan My carry gun is a P2000SK and I wanted something with similar controls and a similar feel, but a longer sight radius. I can add the jetfunnel mag well and go up to Limited later on.
  10. The smallest amount of Mobil-1 chassis grease (the red stuff) on rails, locking lug, and anywhere else that looks like a wear point. Mpro-7 oil everywhere else. My carry gun gets Militec-1 because it doesn't seem to attract as much dust. I probably won't be buying more once it's used up though, I'm not *that* impressed.
  11. RO: "Fine, you're right, nowhere does it say you CANNOT ride a horse from box A to box B. But I'm still DQing you for using two guns."
