  1. IBTL -- political won't go far on BENOS. We're about shooting and camaraderie. Just discussing FTDR or Forbidden Action is enough to get plenty of sparks here .
  2. I fixed the failsafe rod by drilling a small hole through it and putting putting a pin through it.
  3. Novice shooter literally turns almost 270 in the middle of a stage before realizing his mistake, and sweeps back (has the gallery scrambling). Kind of on the 'unsafe' side. Experienced shooter puts one into the berm during a reload. Stops himself, looks at the RO, shrugs, ULSC,HD,H. Experienced shooter gets target lock while on the move and goes 181. No sweeps, really no endangerment of anything but cardboard. But a DQ, nonetheless. Has a tense conversation with the RO and MD about 180 traps. Who should stay to help, and who should pack his toys and go home?
  4. If it's a DQ where the shooter comes close to serious damage -- I'd say gracefully exit, stage left. It can be awkward to stick around, for the shooter and for the squad. On the other hand, if it was a forehead-slapper loss of mental focus, then stick around, help reset, paste, be cool with it. Maybe if everything goes smooth, cover for the scorekeeper. If everything goes really good, you could be scorekeeping when the RO who DQ'd you comes up to shoot, and no one will notice
  5. Why do stores open 24/7 have locks? Meat from cows = beef. Meat from pigs = pork. Chicken is just chicken. Whyzzat? When people who live in the jungle eat chicken, do they say, "Hey! This tastes just like snake!" Why do drive-up ATMs have Braille keypads?
  6. Was the primer indentation on the torn-up casing larger and squared off, or was it the same as a regular primer indentation? Probably more so than the WAY more experienced group already weighing in, I'm not figuring what happened -- would a weak firing pin spring make it possible for a sharp strike on the backstrap to detonate the cartridge? Has any trigger work been done that could have let the hammer drop while slightly out of battery, causing the cartridge to fire? Just spitballin' some thoughts. . .
  7. Not. Lean or well-marbled?
  8. I use the metal strip taken out of an old windshield wiper. Epoxied a spent primer on the bottom, and used a permanent marker to mark it in increments of 10 primers. The extra weight helps the primers feed, I can see how many rounds are loaded or primers are left.
  9. Not just the ones that roll through and endanger pedestrians, but the ones who roll through the light and into the lane in front of oncoming traffic -- then just putt along instead of giving the old jalopy some gas and getting their inconsiderate butts on down the road. You can't hit them, traffic next to you keeps you from going around them because you're slowed down so much you can't safely get into the traffic flow in the next lane over, and the "Moron Disintegrator Ray Gun" hasn't been invented yet.
  10. It changes, based on exposure. Most recently, it was criminal overuse of the word "Dude". Had a coworker who used "Dude" for EVERYTHING. "Hi" was a short, "Dude" Amazement was a higer pitched and drawn out, "Dude" Irritation was a lower voiced and louder, "Dude" The most irritating thing about it? One day, I caught myself saying, "Dude"
  11. Saw it in 3D, about halfway through wondered why -- there was precious little value added 3D effects, in spite of the opportunities (why not have the wand lightening splat out into the audience during the battles? A troll club or stone guard lance, SOMETHING to make up for wearing those dorky glasses). It's almost as if the studio was afraid that seriously making use of a 3D effect would distract from the movie.) Had a bunch more to say, but -- seemed to come too close to spoiling. There, fixed it.

  13. Could be how you're working the trigger, could be the entire grip. Misses breaking toward 9:00 could be pushing the trigger as you squeeze due to the longer travel (especially if you are used to single action), or it could be an almost imperceptable tightening of the entire grip as you squeeze the trigger, which moves the pistol off-target away from the hand holding the pistol. For the trigger stroke, what works for me is mentally thinking aobut bringing the tip of the trigger finger straight back towards my nose as I shoot. For the grip, pay attention to what your whole hand is doing, and make sure you are only flexing the finger on the trigger to make the shots. It might help to relax the grip just slightly. My .02, FWIW.
  14. Absolutely with you on this one. Hate .380 in 9mm almost as much as I hate .45 GAP, and for the same reasons.

  16. Klein mag with a Mobius spring. As the rounds are loaded, the spring never reaches the end of itself. And the rounds pass through the mag without ever reaching a boundary.
  17. Seems simple enough. If you mount a 550 to a strongmount on your regular loading bench, couldn't you unbolt press and strongmount together, to move it onto a separate, portable frame for use on-site? When you have the press set up for load you want, bring the whole thing back, re-attach the press and strongmount to the permanent bench, and load away. Use a loader 'range bag' for wrenches, flip trays, pick-up tubes, and other accountrements.
  18. A good chrono, if you don't have access to one. You'll want to know how the loads out of your setup are performing.
  19. 1. How long have you been shooting competitively? About 30 years, but with some HUGE gaps. Friends would say my shooting isn't much competition anyway. 2. What's your favorite gun? "Punkin Chunker" Think about it. ( JMB) 3. Do you prefer paper or steel? Steel for immediate gratification, but paper lets me keep the illusion of a good shot for at least a little longer. 4. What is your best/proudest achievement to date? Wife and family. 5. What are you most looking forward to? Life is minute - by - minute. Looking forward is for planning. 6: Which match was the most memorable and why? A few years back. Won HOA in L-10 at a Level 1 ('course, it helped that the other L-10 shooter was tripped slipped) 7. Do you do the bullet flip on unload and show clear? No, I keep both feet firmly planted. 8. If you had the power to change only one rule, what would it be and why? No pasting = no shooting. GOYA and help, ya poofy prima-donna. 9. Finish this phrase: "Action pistol shooting can..." . . . be the funnest powder-to-noise process in the world. 10. Name five things you can't live without Faith. In God, in yourself, in your fellow man -- at some point, you've got to believe in something, or else you might as well crawl into a hole. Who would you like to thank/mention? (family/sponsors/coaches/etc) On positive side - parents and brother, others too numerous to mention. Thanks for negative lesson to Boomer E., who helped me understand that for some people, smiling means they're about to do ya.
  20. +1k. You might want to reconsider blocking your home's circuit breaker panel with the shelves. Sometimes you just don't want to unstack stuff to reach it.
  21. IBTL. Depends on where, what level. Definitely draws comments. Economic factors, political factors -- nowhere near as simple as the cut-and-dried version I got.
  22. Sights are adjusted for windage and elevation. Elevation counters the effects of gravity. Gravity always works in the vertical. When you tip the gun, gravity remains vertical, but the elevation adjustment no longer works in the vertical. So I'm guessing that if you tip to the right, you will likely shoot low and to the right, if you are shooting at a distance for which your sights are adjusted to point of impact.
  23. Overheard in a household in Germany sometime later: "Mommy, Uncle Joergie's scaring me! Make him put his face back on!"
  24. I agree, somewhat -- I've seen someone DQ'd by a gallery call, followed by an argument, stomping, and threats. It wasn't pretty. The gallery is the gallery, and the COF is the COF. You wouldn't expect an ump to call strikes based on what was said in the stands. If someone in the gallery calls 'stop' it probably should be a procedural for interfering with a COF (8.6.2). OTOH, at Level 1 matches, as plenty of people have noted, there is likely to be a shortage of ROs, so a non-RO winds up on the clipboard. As much as possible, it should be the most-qualified non-RO available, not the helpful newby who wants to learn and has his/her own pen. OT3H, if someone is going to be running downrange with the shooter, that person should do so with the authority to enforce safety. That includes stopping the shooter for breaking the 180. OT4H, if a shooter is not comfortable or willing to be DQ'd by the call of a non-RO scorer, then that shooter should make his or her reluctance known, and be willing to wait until a qualified RO is available. But don't step up to the line and start a COF with a non-RO scorekeeper, then argue against it when the non-RO stops the stage for a safety issue.
