  1. As soon as you attach the mag to the magnet, it is now a storage device that is not in compliance with appx 12. I don't know how you can confuse "carried in the hand" with using a storage device not behind the hip.
  2. http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=122516 As long as you have an STI (Heinie) front dovetail, it's doable.
  3. Did these on a CNC mill. Spent a lot of time trying to come up with something different.
  4. If you like a strong reset, Apex sear and plunger kit is all you need. If you want a lighter pull, add the trigger and sear springs. I don't change the striker spring. If you want to feel the reset you'll need to have it worked or add the RAM. If the sear won't relese the striker once installed, lift the trigger bar loop a little until it does. I've had to work over several kits just to get them to function, others have dropped in for a sub 4# pull. With some work 2-2.5# is possible.
  5. Sounds to me like there is no more Iron sight division.
  6. I bought two of those aimpoint mounts when I built my own open gun a while back. I sold the gun but should still have the other one somewhere. Springfield wide frame. EGW Koenig hammer. Can't remember where I've seen that style comp before. SV trigger.
  7. That is how I would do it, based on your description. Same as fitting a sight to fit the dovetail.
  8. I bought a 20" JP barrel then had it turned down to .750 from the gas block forward. Under the hand guard it was a light profile already. The best set up for me was a globe front sight mount on a barrel band (Brownells). The Globe sight is a 30mm tube with a very thin post front sight inside. Long range, use post. Close up, use the tube for a circle in circle sight picture. For under 50 yards, see brown in tube..pull twice. Very very easy to use and it's fast. I've shot a 2" group at 200 yards with it (1 moa 5 shot group). Rear sight in pic is a DMPS style standard A2 sight. With the standard elevation drum I have 25y/300y, 50y/200y, and the 4,5, and 600 yard settings. Because of the adjustable height front barrel band I could set the 25/300 zero 9 clicks up on the rear sight. The 50/200y zero is bottomed out. Worked out well for me. Of course now the set up is sitting on a shelf because I bought a Vortex for the Pro-Am this year. I had the barrel done up because it was cheaper than buying the Noveske Iron sight barrel. Their barrel is .750 at the muzzle specifically for long sight radius. I have a friend with a lathe (who also made my handguard). If you don't the Noveske would be a great option. Not cheap though. I could not find any other barrels with a .750 diameter. They all reduce down to .730. Then again, I think the barrel band I use is available in .730 (which I found out after I bought the barrel). http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=7919/Product/COMPETITION_BARREL_BAND Edited to add: My barrel is a 1/8. I can shoot 52gr through 77gr.
  9. I have boxes of S&B 9mm brass if you find that you like it. I don't reload 9mm. Probably 2500 total.
  10. Now that I got my SS back I can work on that percentage.
  11. Yes, typical over engineering at work. I've been through the sig course awhile back. Good luck.
  12. Take a look at the safety plunger. I've run into plungers that have a dome shape, the trigger bar doesn't hit it in the center but off to the side. If the plunger is not pressed up enough your firing pin could be hitting it, slowing down enough for occasional light strikes. The Apex plunger is an example of "good". Not a dome shape, but rounded corners. Add the lighter spring and it disengages easier too. If you have an old style striker, and swap to the Gen 5 striker it may require another trigger job.
  13. I like the IPSC wording. BoD needs to address this ASAP. With SS nationals coming up, it would suck to get bumped to open for a delayed reload on the move, or a shot taken "while reloading". Production is supposed to be our entry level division, with Single stack being similar but for 1911's. We DON'T need difficult rules to enforce (was my hand behind by hip bone or wasn't it?) for the new shooters. Common sense was mentioned earlier, now we just need to apply it. Maybe one of the USPSA presidential candidates can make this a campaign issue.
  14. Yep, I knew my post was starting to drift into that other topic. Sorry. Sounds like we've sorted this one out for now.
  15. I totally agree with you on that. I as well have a problem with the front pocket topic. This is how I would like it understood: If, during a course of fire, you USE the mag from the front pocket, open. If you barney with it before the buzzer, not open. If after ULSC, you place it back in the front pocket, not open. I know that it states your equipment must meet division requirements at all times. I read that to mean I can't move my holster or mag pouches in front of the hip bone at any time during the course of the match. To me, the mags on the table are in the same state as if they were on my belt. Legal at the buzzer. What I do with them after the buzzer is up to me. That is, as long as I don't put them in my front pocket.
  16. That's ok though, because then it's clearly stated in the WSB. Follow that...no bump to Open. This also clearifies that you may grab the mag(s) off the table and run down range WHILE attempting to stow them. There is no 'line in the sand' that you can't cross before the mags are stowed while shooting the course of fire. Unless the WSB states otherwise. If you want the mags stowed prior to movement, have the shooter carry an ammo can somewhere with the weak hand. Commons sense says you'll need to stow mags prior to carrying the can anywhere. Or better yet, mags must be INSIDE ammo can. Oooooh, no I didn't....
  17. Pulled from above quote: "If the competitor wishes to put themselves at a potential disadvantage by carrying their next reload in their hands on those stages with staged mags, let them, it is "Freestyle after all". also: "As far as WSB being involved, I have seen WSB that specifically prohibited that and I think that can be enforced under 5.2.4." To me, that reads as guidance that would allow (rules don't prohibit) a shooter grabbing all desired mags from table and running with them in hand until needed (loaded into gun). That is unless the WSB specifically prohibits it. I think the wording would have to be very specific in the WSB to not allow running with mags.
  18. Fresh Atranite finish after Bobby Tritopped the slide. Cuts and finish turned out fantastic. Man I have missed shooting this one! It's good to be back. It started out at 38oz before the tritop cuts. Lighter the better. Balance is exactly how I wanted it. Magwell was not refinished this go around, I Ionbonded and hard coat anodized it two years ago (when I made it).
  19. I disagree. More spring pressure equals more friction. Others will disagree on the light strikes issues as several poeple have already posted having light strikes with 17# recoil springs. Every gun is different.
  20. Johns response is exactly how I feel about it. It is freestyle after all. When was this communication?
  21. I have to load .2gr more for jacketed over my lead loads. That is for 175gr lead vs 180gr jacketed but that should give you an idea.
  22. I'm experimenting with this right now. I shoot 200gr LSWC over 4.3gr of Clays. I just loaded up a box of Barry's 185gr HBRP over 4.9gr of Clays. I have not Chrono'd yet. 4.9gr-5.0gr is what I've read it takes to make 170-172pf. That's close enough for initial testing. I shot both loads in the same gun, loaded in the same magazine. 4 rounds of 200gr shot first followed by 4 rounds of 185gr. I could not tell the difference at all. I also had someone else shoot the 185gr load right after his own 230gr loads. Again, no felt difference. This was just seat of the pants testing so far. I intend on testing accuracy while on the clock and see if there is a difference in point values (based on my own performance). I've also tested 165gr vs 180gr in my .40 loads too. Given similar PF, the difference was not noticable. Maybe I'm not recoil sensitive. I know the theory as to why the lighter, faster loads are supposed to feel harsh but my hands can't really tell. Not yet anyway. 185's are cheaper and I don't like shooting lead indoors so I was looking for a training alternative.
  23. When I shoot lead bullets I clean my barrel every other match and before big matches. I de-lead and de-goop (bullet lube) the gun and barrel. The lead builds up at the throat and will eventually lead to jams. From experience. Jacketed is much more forgiving. I still like a clean gun but I bore snake it a couple times.
