  1. What is the 50 yd standards, 5s par? Anything else that's good to know about the match? Mark
  2. Thanks for the help. Got signed up. I have never gone to this before and didn't want to miss it. Mark
  3. I tried to sign up using the link on the clubs website. The revolver link works but not the single stack link. The practiscore website shows their status as both being open. How do I sign up. Thanks, Mark
  4. NFC as a place to put a few shooters with non IDPA compliant guns, OK. Shoot a few matches and get a legal division gun. I wouldn't want to see our local matches drag out another hour or two to accommodate people who have no intention of ever competing within IDPA rules. NFC is not competing. Mark
  5. $10 vs $25. That is some incentive to become a member! Mark
  6. I realize that the large bore shooters will be competing against each other, but 23 round stages with 25 rounds available is cutting it pretty close compared to those in divisions with 31 rounds. Mark
  7. There are ICORE stages where a shooter with an 8 shot gun can engage another target that's visible, sometimes saving a reload or some movement. Some stages there is no advantage. The 7 shooters will be competing against the 8 shooters though. Mark
  8. My understanding of that situation is that if the first shot on that stage had gone down range, all penalties would have been totaled and added to the raw time. Because there was no elapsed time recorded, there was no provision in ICORE rules to do anything else but reshoot the stage. Mark
  9. Somewhere in the Hogdon data, they have warned before that you may lose up to 175 fps with barrel lengths around 4" and varying amounts with other length barrels. Mark
  10. There is also the Classic category in ICORE that requires the use of speedloaders and guns that hold only 6 rounds. Mark
  11. Not from any personal experience, but from what I've seen a lot of the top shooters shoot the really high yearly round counts as they were progressing and moving up the ladder to the top. Then at some point they can taper off and maintain there level with less rounds down range. Before bigger matches they may increase their weekly shooting numbers for a while in preparation. Mark
  12. If a person can shoot this way pretty close to equally well from both sides it could work great as far as exposing less of yourself in a real life situation. But a lot of us haven't tried it or practiced it enough to be effective. I have tried it, in practice, and found it took me too long to get comfortable with my grip, also I really wasn't noticing how much of myself was exposed during that time and I would be exposed for a longer time. Plus, I didn't shoot as accurately or fast. I would be better off shooting with my usual strong hand grip and canting your body to expose as little as possible beyond the barricade, unless I practiced it a lot more. Mark
  13. What if the shot in question was fired through the net wall? What happens even if you are engaging targets and put a round through a wood wall or a net wall? Does it make a difference if the wall is actually solid vs a net wall? Mark
  14. I finally just sent in an order for a Dillon 650 with case feeder. I primarily load 45acp and 38 special. Might be loading more 9mm in the future. I've been reloading for about 14 years on a Rockchucker. I have free time in the evenings and have been able to keep up with my shooting needs. But, I'm shooting more ICORE, USPSA along with IDPA and plan on shooting more. I'm about 2 years away from retirement and wanted to get set up with a Dillon before money becomes a bit tighter after retirement. Plus, I will not have to spend anywhere near the amount of time reloading as I have been. I plan to still reload my 44 special and 44-40 blackpowder ammo for SASS on the Rockchucker and my 45-70 ammo. I was trying to decide on a 550 or 650 but when I noticed that the case feeder works for both 38 special and 45acp I decided to get the 650. Also got the powder check. I have some time off coming up soon and hope to get it set up if it gets here in time. Do any of you recommend any of the Unique Tek upgrades for Dillon presses? Just wondering. thanks, Mark
  15. Lots of shooters only shoot at indoor ranges where you can't draw from a holster, shoot rapid fire, basically you are just standing there shooting at a target. Some people do have access to a range or property where they can shoot and could set things up however they want. But, how many shooters have target stands, targets, steel targets, walls, the different moving targets, all the stuff that would allow you to setup a stage similar to what you find at an action pistol match? Not a lot of us, I'm sure. Plus, at a match, you shoot with others and see how you measure up, and learn from better shooters. And meet a lot of other shooters. The time spent is part of the price you have to pay to get this experience. It's certainly worth it to a lot of shooters. I don't want it to drag out all day, unnecessarily, but I'm also glad it's not over in an hour. Mark
  16. "As long as they accept their actions and the consequence with maturity and respect for everyone else, they are alright with me and I genuinely hope to see them back on the range at the next match. I do not feel any need to judge them or their actions beyond that." I agree with this. The main thing is how they take the DQ. If it's an obvious DQ situation or one that the shooter needs to get some explanation on, how does he react after that? If they feel like staying and helping, maybe learning more, great. But, especially for those that regularly go to matches, maybe there is something thing that they can get done with the rest of the day that will allow them to go to another match the next day or next weekend. Most of us have limited time and days we can make it to matches or get the chores done at home. Mark
  17. Ty. Needless to say, I'd like to know too. It's one thing at a local monthly match, but a bigger issue with something like a postal match. If it is allowable to make a judgement call, I guess all you can do is look at it on a case by case basis and do the best you can. Or if it's not, even considering medical or handicap issues, they might have to just take the penalties. Mark H.
  18. On stage 4 the distance indicated, width wise between box A and box C is 15m. This is the distance side to side between the boxes not from the targets. The distance between the other boxes are 3m or less. Is the 15m listed correct. We are shooting it tomorrow and I just noticed this. thanks, Mark Nevermind. 1.5 meters. That makes more sense. One of those days. thanks.
  19. I enjoy shooting with my buddies. But when it comes to far away matches, I think it's good to shoot with other people. I still like to have a few friends on the squad, but it seems silly to go to a match 500 miles away and shoot with the same squad of shooters you shoot with every month. I like them all, but it's good meeting new people too. Mark
  20. "For the few that bitch about a specific match not being run by every IDPA rule because someone was allowed to shoot safely with non-IDPA issues at a local wed or sat match..... I borrowed the following line. "We do close to 60 IDPA matches per year. This ain't one of them. Case closed" At what point do you decide that the matches are not IDPA matches? Do you still advertise the non IDPA matches as IDPA or call them something else. Or do you list them all as IDPA matches and only mention the "this isn't one of them" on a case by case basis when you want to allow non IDPA compliant gear and practices? Mark
  21. As I posted above, the 45 200gr swc bullets I received had a lighter color green coatin, the coatings appearance being a little uneven. Today I got an order of 160 gr 38's. These are nearly black looking and very well covered and very slick. I haven't had a chance to shoot either of the new bullets. Mark
  22. Obviously, your situation is more than just boredom. But, when you do feel like shooting again, try shooting something different. You may already do it. Shoot a revolver for a while or whatever is different than your norm, especially if you generally stick to one type of gun or type of competition. Good luck, Mark.
  23. I just got 200 45 swc from Donnie. They are lighter in color. It looks like the coating isn't as thick and is a little inconsitent. I haven't got a chance to shoot any of the new ones yet. Someone on another board said he didn't have any trouble shooting high velocity 38 supers. I'm sure they will be fine but they didn't look quite as good as the bullets I'd received in the past. Mark.
  24. "Haven't done any big matches yet, just local club stuff so far. But I tend to do fairly well since I get good hits. Some of the guys are faster, but my hits make up for being slow." I haven't shot a lot of USPSA but recently shot my first sanctioned match. I usually get a lot of the points, but even being just a few seconds slower, it seems like it's hard to make it up by scoring more points. I feel like I need to move a bit faster and accept a few more C hits and I might do better overall. Could be wrong though. Mark
