  1. I have a Primary Machine 2 port comp on a CZ P09 and it works well but I wouldn't say softer than minor loads in a steel gun. It definitely softens up the minor 124g loads a bit I shoot in my S2. I have asked this question too but related to reloads, and what I have found experimenting with various loads is that the efficiency is reached fairly quick over minor PF with the small comps. So yeah like was said hottest 115/124 factory you can get will be close. All that said, my buddy shoots a G19 in Carry Optics and uses the 150 Federal Syntec ammo. Its made for USPSA minor and feels as good as it gets in a G19. He also had a case of LAX subsonic 160g that was super soft but the gun needed a respring for 100% reliability, plus we didn't chrono it so PF is questionable. A muzzle weight helps as well, legal in open.
  2. Yes. The 100g retains the old TC profile as loading it short is not a problem. All the .358s from them have worked great in my CZs.
  3. Same here with Precision 100g TC. Basically my minor charge of SP with 100g vs 124g. Shot well in both S2 and my P09
  4. I use this tumbler, about half full each load, just covered with brass juice mix. If I look close at brass that was tumbled for 2 hr., I can see some slight peening. Does it cause a problem? No. I deprime only first for better cleaning, but do not resize. First op with clean brass on the progressive is resize only, next expand. I think this is why my process works and may solve your problem. The expansion plug is two stage with an edge at the larger dia that cuts across the inner edge of the case mouth, effectively deburring it. At no time do I see coating damage. I do see very fine brass debris almost powder when I clean the die after a run. Deburring cases would make me nuts, the expander plugs are $6.50 and fit in a cheap Lee universal flaring die.
  5. I shoot an S2 in USPSA Production and local steel stuff. Small/med hands here too. Reach reduction kit is the answer for the first DA shot. The CGW hammer, springs, and some polishing make the action every bit as good as a Shadow 2 Orange I handled. You can't really judge a production gun by one sample at the store. Igolfat8 is correct, the S2 has a deeper cut under the beaver tail. Grips are easy. What I find works well for smaller hands is a thin strong hand grip and a thicker support hand grip. With some cheap G10s, epoxy, and silicon carbide you can make exactly what fits you best.
  6. #36 and original slow curing JB Weld for me on everything.
  7. You have a lot of flexibility in OAL with that new Precision profile. CFE and Sport Pistol are VERY different, CFE being much slower. I have had great results with Precisions over Sport Pistol in my CZs. However, I just started experimenting with a PM barrel and comp in a P09, loaded the same bullets over various mid to upper loads of Power Pistol to find the sweet spot. Overall the gun shot great, very accurate, flat, spring/load in balance as the dot returns center after minimal rise. But, after 200 rnds the comp had a fair amount of leading, and a small amount in the barrel. OEM CZ barrels, with the lighter Sport Pistol load, stay perfectly clean. The new barrel appears less polished, perhaps that has something to do with it. I probably should have broke in in with more jacketed but open base FMJ will get a comp dirty too. At no time did accuracy suffer, actually got better as loads got hotter. I mean a ragged 1" hole @ 15 yards and 3-4" @ 25 yards off hand. I always liked RMR FMJs, have some of their heavy plated 125s on the way to try in this gun/barrel.
  8. Try a #15 first. With a striker gun you have to keep it a little stiffer to cock the striker and go into battery. Fiocchi is a slightly hotter minor from what I remember, a bit hotter than my USPSA handloads. The other stuff I loaded is quite hot, mid to near max loads of Power Pistol. Comp works good and the gun is very accurate with the hotter load, but it also has the Primary Machine barrel.
  9. Open minor? Most likely heavy. I have a Primary Machine comp on a P09, and running the same 130ish PF ammo I run in my Shadow 2, a #15 seems borderline heavy and also returns the dot low. Same spring with much hotter loads runs perfect. P10C is supposed to take the same size springs.
  10. As far as I know its either .356 (9mm) or .358 (.38 / .357 / Cowboy) with Precision Bullets.

    P09 magwell

I need a magwell /compatible base pads to complete my P09 build. What would you guys suggest? Edit: No extensions, 10 rnd state
  12. Just finished this for local knockdown steel where there is only Iron and Open class. Just needs a magwell now. I didn't want to get into the revolving door situation of optics replacement I see with most everyone using slide mounts. If it goes well I'll try it in USPSA open minor(yeah I know) for fun. I shoot a Shadow 2 in production now. Anyway, this is a Neumount rail mount. Very solid. I shot it a few times with the optic before tearing it down to finish the SAO conversion, grip, and barrel/comp. Neumount will make a kydex holster to fit pistols with their mount.
  13. Because it introduces problems from swagging bullets down as discussed. With coated, even if the loading /gauging operation appears to go well, you will then be chasing leading problems from the now undersized bullets. Bullet bulges case at base from hard contact FCD flattens bulged case Inside of case resizes bullet Easy enough. Better to minimize case bulge with better thought out process and scrapping some brass than this, no?
  14. Absolutely. I load Precision coated 124s and some 147s in .358 dia. With some brass, like GFL as an example, case bulges from expansion were the norm. Just for the hell of it I ran some through an FCD I had. Bulge cleaned up. Pulled bullets, WAY too easy. Bullets now measured .356-.357 which put me back to the original problem that .358s totally cured! IMO, the FCD is the kiss of death for loading coated bullets. I agree its a band aid, how can you not expect the bullet to be swagged if the bulge caused by it is? I don't load plated but from what I've seen from those that do, expect the same issues. I guess its fine for cleaning up jacketed loads using ANY headstamp brass as you can't swage them down as easy. New profile bullets and scrapping junk headstamps cured all my problems.
  15. Measure the dia of the pulled bullets, particularly at the base. You likely will be swagging them down, and certainly will with the FCD. When sized back down with the FCD, neck tension will also be reduced as the brass has some elasticity and lead none. Try it, bullets will fall out easy with one swing of the puller and measure undersized. Pick a bullet that allows a shallower seating depth at a proper OAL. Use an expander, not just a flare, of the correct depth and dia to expand the case properly so the bullet base does not have to. Plated/coated can't be treated like much harder jacketed. Cull the headstamps that cause excessive bulging.
  16. What is the weight of a tungsten guide rod for the P09? I have the CGW stainless part. I've experimented with rail mount muzzle weights I've made from copper bar up to 4 oz and like the feel. Might be different when the comp goes on but a rod in the same range is a lot cleaner.

    sp01 shadow grips ?

This. I tried the palm swells, too fat for my hands. Bought a cheap set of G10s off Amazom. One layer of epoxy and #36 silicon carbide. About 80% perfect. Added another layer on the weak hand side between finger tips and rear edge of grip panel. Now perfect. Symmetrical grip panels are not always optimal.
  18. Yes, i recently bought 3500 125gr flat point .358s. (listed as Cowboy bullets, but same profile as the 9mm .356s.) i too have a P09, load for that and a Shadow 2. With this new profile they plunked at 1.153" in the P09. I run them at 1.120" with 3.8g Sport Pistol and they shoot great in both guns, as well as my Beretta APX. The 115 and 147 g have the same profile as well, the 100g is the old style TC but its so short its fine if you need a light bullet for Steel Challenge. Very pleased with these coated bullets, service and fast shipping.
  19. For a poly gun, check out the Beretta APX, VERY nice egos for smaller hands. I've introduced several people to shooting and of all my guns they like the APX. Cheap, reliable, as accurate as anything in its class. Short take up/reset trigger thats easily made 4-5 lbs with a spring and polish. There is an optic ready version as well as a new match version coming out as well.
  20. I've settled on Precisions. The new coating is superior, IMO, and the new profile is excellent not requiring short OALs. I have a lot of Brazos 125s as well, accurate and cheap but still some leading with .358s. Interesting discovery recently was that if I shoot some Precisions first, then say 100 rnds or so of Brazos, the leading is minimal and cleans easy with a bronze brush. Just shooting 200 rnds of Brazos meant a Chor Boy scrub job. The Preciaion coating contains a solid lube that seems to coat the bore slightly and prevent leading from the Brazos bullets.
  21. I've wet tumbled dirty outdoor pickup brass for hours with Brass Juice, or detergent and a couple Vitamin C tablets(ascorbic acid). Normally do 90 min. No pins, so no hard/soft metal interaction. No problems with major peening. Any sharp case edges are smooth as expected. I would think using a true expander plug, with a step dia., and not just a basic flare would clean any peening off the ID of the rim anyway. I'm loading .358 coated bullets in 9mm with no issues, can't see a ring from the crimp on pulled bullets. When I did more precision rifle reloads (.22-.250) I trimmed/reamed cases after cleaning so wouldn't matter much anyway. I also have a large Branson ultrasonic cleaner with heated tub I use for other things, like motorcycle engine parts, but the throughput compared to the FART is much less, and it's more of a hassle.

    Tuning the P09 for USPSA

Mine has all the CGW upgrades and runs perfect. Everything lights from Federal to S&B. The race hammer makes a big difference in the SA. Depending on the gun, the roller can really clean up the DA. Mine was good with stock roller and polishing the trigger bar. #11.5 hammer spring, stiffer sear spring, and the #15 recoil spring. I drilled and tapped the safety lever and added a small alloy spacer as an extension I can hit with my thumb. A Holosun 507C rides on a Neumount frame mount. I'll be adding the Primary Machine barrel and comp next. Finally, a single action only conversion and get rid of all the take up in SA. I have a couple things to try but will probably remove and add a pin to the front block. This is just for local knockdown matches so no DA needed.

    Tuning the P09 for USPSA

I'm running a #15 now with the CGW guide rod which is the minimum they recommend. Seems to run good with minor ammo. I will soon add a comp so then drop lower.
  24. I've been shooting the NJ steel games at the clubs this year. In the interest of doing well it seems to me the lowest PF that will reliably drop the big poppers is what you want. My USPSA minor loads in my S2 work fine. Being there are no PF rules and anything goes with just open (optics) and iron sight classes, I'm building a minor gun with a comp for this purpose. If you just want to feel snap and/or more challenge managing recoil remove the comp.
