  1. Those two bullet profiles are completely different. I doubt you will have OAL problems with the 124. I think L4RD's issues are other than bullet/land interference.
  2. Thats funny. Can only be true though for so long before fouling throws accuracy out the window. Also I would think action pistols get hotter faster than bullseye guns. My initial range tests, slower fire on paper indoors, looked pretty good and I bought a lot of bullets. Once I started shooting more rounds and faster outside in the heat this summer things seemed to change. Its not just Brazos though. I tried that exact same 124g bullet profile from SNS with the same results.
  3. What are the headstamps of your failures? That will be a big clue. Perhaps you acquired some less than desirable pick up brass that is skewing your results. I now cull my brass of all questionable headstamps and things run a lot smoother.
  4. The 124g RN with the shoulder and bevel base? Has to be the easiest coated bullet to load out there, even in .358" dia. I can't see how you could hit the lands with a good plunk test length -.040" . Sure its not your flare or expansion in combo with brass variables? Working with .358s that's a fine line sometimes. I agree they are easy to work with, cheap, and accurate. My only problem is that I just can't eliminate the leading problem completely. I don't know why but even the .358s will foul the bores of my guns slightly to moderately, the .356 and .357 were terrible. Maybe its a combination of the lube groove causing limited area with the barrel, the coating, and a faster(but typical) powder. My buddy notices more smoke from the gun as well when I shoot the Brazos compared to the Precisions I have moved too, which are also easy to load even in 147g and keep the bore clean. Maybe I'll try some different loads with BE86 or Power Pistol just as an experiment (different pressure rise) but not what I would want to shoot a match with.
  5. Chamfer all edges including those of the primer slide hole, then polish. Mine runs with any primers, WSP were no problem when Federals were out of stock. Just a little more pressure on the handle to seat, I suspect because they are not plated (smooth) and not quite as soft as the Federals. My biggest issue has been with the powder measure, not function but corrosion. I don't know what cheap steel/casting its made from but the drum rusts solid to the casting unless its stored clean and lubed. I would always blow it clean with dry compressed air but to disassemble and clean of lube before every use is a PIA. I have since installed an older RCBS powder measure I've had for 40 years, no more problems.
  6. I have the adjustable sights, FO front. I opened up the notch as I like more light, like on my two CZs. My trigger is now pretty good. The stryker hook surface, although coated, likely has tooling marks. Clean this up and the sear as well, lighter spring. 15 lb recoil spring. Very little pre travel and a short reset. I also shaved down the trig safety so its perfectly flush with the trigger surface. I may eventually put an optic on it for CO, we'll see. One thing about mine is it does not seem to like 147 g bullets, much better accuracy with 124s of the same brand and profile.
  7. No its not clear. What I mean is that you can see the front of the bushing of course but it does not look different. Its not hard. The pin holds both the front sight and bushing. Drive out pin, use a socket dropped into slide as a driver to tap out old bushing. Tap in CGW part, aligning pin groove with hole in slide, drive in new pin. Check and fit as needed. All I did was #600 paper on my pinky finger evenly around, keep going until barrel installs, finish with crocus cloth. Took an hour.
  8. Welcome. My shooting buddy is the local PD chief and instructor as well. Lots of different match opportunities locally. Where in NJ?
  9. What I mean by check when fitting is barrel fit. Basically if the barrel goes in straight and easy the bushing fit will be less than optimum. On my stock S2 I could detect play but did not measure and calc clearance. With the fitted CGW bushing I have to wiggle the barrel to the side at an angle to install it. Next time I break the gun down I'll measure the parts, but there has to be a minimum clearance to allow assembly. I would fit it so its a slight PIA to install but with no force, then it will break in nicely. Its USPSA legal as far as I know, doesn't change external appearance of the gun. You can see it of course but it looks the same.
  10. Its better quality hardened steel that's tight and will likely need some fitting. Its obvious once you knock the stock one out and compare. Mine shot good stock, great with the bushing. There was a slight noticeable play stock and the barrel dropped in super easy so I did the bushing with other CGW mods. I had to fit mine, could not get the barrel installed in ANY position. Lots of elbow grease with #600 paper and constant checks until the barrel could just be installed, then a final polish. Loosed up a hair more with 1K rounds and settled in to where it wants to be and has stayed the same since. I also use a very thin coat of light moly grease on the barrel end and lugs after a cleaning.
  11. The 147 gr .358 dia Precisions shoot great in My Shadow 2. 3.2 - 3.4 g Sport Pistol equally accurate, I'll have to get them through a chrono. The P09 is OK but a bit more accurate with the lighter faster 125s. Typical of that gun, as it shoots hot 125s or 115s the best on paper. Still accurate enough for what I want to do with it and easier to reacquire the dot. Barrels were very clean on both guns after about 150 rnds each. Excellent coated bullets.
  12. Sport Pistol is good stuff, cleaner than W231. Been through about 10 - 11 lbs so far. Like cheap N320.
  13. I decap on a single stage prior to tumble to avoid this. With any abnormal resistance on the handle from these, or other tight pocket cases, they get tossed in a separate can. Usually I find CBCs and Herters have tight pockes like this, good way to cull out.
  14. I like the #36 and have done a few, one done over after #60 at first. You will find the SI grit over epoxy sharper and grabbier than any stick on, as there is no coating over it. The actual size of the Talon tape grit might be the same but its not as grippy. If you want to cut your own go to Home Depot and get a safety stair tread stick on, larger grit than any tape. All of this stuff eventually comes loose on the edges on a poly gun from squeezing it in the hot weather, why I went to the SI / epoxy.
  15. Good stuff. So you are saying that the majority of smoke, when encountered, from coated bullets is actually from lead and not the coating itself? Interesting. Its been noted that some coated bullets produce a burning plastic smell so it would seem logical to assume coating is at least part of it. Unfortunately recovering bullets is almost impossible here with the lack of private property to shoot on where a trap setup would be possible. Side question, any idea what Federal uses on their factory syntech USPSA ammo? I picked up a few with brass after a match and pulled them. First, the tension to the brass was very strong and it took a lot of swings with the puller to separate. Next, the dia was .3545 for the 9mm, the seated length being sized down from .355. Last, the coating was very thick and tough, nothing like the majority of the thin Hitech coated stuff available that scratches off easily. My buddy shot some of this in the past with no abnormal smoke or leading in a G19, despite the dia., but to be fair I do not know the exact size of the barrel.
  16. The older original profile was a classic truncated cone flat point, I could only load those to 1.030" but they shot great too. The new ones have a different ogive, long nose that makes things easy. The seating depth of the new profile 147s @ 1.140" is approx the same as the old style 125s @ 1.030". I'll be testing some of the 147 loads tomorrow and see how it goes.
  17. The new Precision 125 profile? I assume so by the 1.150" OAL, unless your guns are generous. That said I'm testing with them now and keep them in the head zone (4-5") offhand at 25 yards through a Shadow 2. I'm sure better if benched. This is the .358 dia over 3.9g Sport Pistol @ 1.140"
  18. Because it was late after a full weekend and I had a brain fart! Absolutely right, but as jack said that much shorter should not matter.
  19. That's fine. Besides if you plunk at 1.050" your target OAL should be about 1.060" anyway.
  20. 1.100" is fine in a CZ as long as it plunks clean and you worked up to your charge correctly. I've shot many rounds of different brands and profiles at 1.030" in an S2 and P09. Also Beretta APX that has a long chamber. All guns feed no problem. Just be aware of your seating depth and when experimenting with bullets like this back off the charge a few tenths and work back up.
  21. .358". They are listed under " 38 Cowboy Bullets", but the exact same family of bullets just sized to .358. I thought about trying their .356 but why bother? These work and are stock items at my door in a couple days.
  22. This is brand new stuff that replaces the old profiles in 115, 125, and 147, both in .356 (9mm) and .358 (38) . I'm sure new pics will follow. Actually the 147 pic is of the new profile. The coating is their own, and contains a solid lube that appears to be moly. This is all you wipe out of the barrel, a slight black residue. No smoke. The bullet is also swaged not cast. I'm sold, like the way they load, shoot, and easy gun cleanup. They list quantities up to 3600. I'll by that once I test the 147s in my guns.
  23. I recently got some of the new profile Precision bullets in 125 and 147. Just released a couple weeks ago. The profile is longer and allows me to load to 1.140 formy CZs. The 125s shoot great. Haven't shot the 147s yet but they solve all the problems of loading 147s in CZs and other tight guns without reaming. The seating depth is actually less than the older style 125g loaded .010" - .015" off the lands. Barrel is perfectly clean, zero lead.
  24. Load it a bit shorter to account for tolerance. If you plunk at 1.135" for some in a spot check most certainly some will not. Your OAL will vary a few thou with mixed brass. Not saying that's whats causing your group size but its the correct way to do things. 1.120 - 1.125" should be good.
  25. I think its a combo of size, hardness, coating, and perhaps barrel finish/starting cleanliness in some cases. Also I wonder how many guys actually look down the bore with a glass or scope. I have a buddy who is a LEO and was shooting the Federal Syntech out of his G19. Claimed it was clean, till he looked close with a glass. Brazos in .358 maintained good accuracy for games with some minor leading after 200 rounds. Not bad, but still there. Like was said they seem fairly soft. They also seem to smoke a lot even with Sport Pistol, other shooters noticed it more than me watching me shoot. I'm switching to Precision Bullets in .358 as they do not lead, smoke, and are very accurate.
