  1. Why are you using a LFC die? I don't like swaging the bullet down after they were sized at the factory or the bullet maker. For matches, just take your barrel out and do the plunk test for your ammo. For practice, if a bullet is a little oversize and does not chamber all the way, it is good practice to clear it. I don't like relying on a crimp to keep the bullet in place; I use an undersize resizing die, and that provides a good friction fit between the case and bullet.
  2. The CCI Clean-22 Subsonic rounds are polymer coated , and they are listed as having the same velocity as CCI Standard Velocity ammo. Has anyone seen these? Are they available yet?
  3. I have been using CCI Standard Velocity - good accuracy and performance. For practice, I use Federal Value Pack, but I usually get a few misfires every 200 rounds.
  4. I went out and practiced steel challenge without a comp on the barrel, and could not tell a difference in my stage times. I am running 85-90% compared to the new par times. My timer picked up the shots fine, so I might leave it uncompensated. If I just can't leave it alone, I will try one of the Allchin or Tandemkross comps. I am too lazy to clean out all of the holes on the tactical solutions compensator
  5. I only run jacketed in my open gun, and I am running it at 150-155 PF for steel challenge. I know you didn't want anyone to tell you not to run coated at minor++ velocities, but it is close enough to major that I don't think coated is worth the hassle. The coated work great in carry optics, PCC and limited, though.
  6. All of the 9mm SummersEnterprises coated bullets can be ordered in 0.357 diameter.
  7. I just got a couple of Gen 2 STI 140mm 9mm mags to try in my open gun. They worked perfectly out of the box - no tweaking necessary. At $49.99 each, they are a good deal. I am using them for steel challenge.
  8. I have tried WAC, HS6, 3N37, and N350 with 115g and 124g bullets for 9mm Major. I think 3n37 is my favorite but HS6 is much less expensive and is a very close second for me, so I am using it, now. The Lovex 37.1 sounds interesting to try; the next big order I make from PV I will pick some up.
  9. Thanks for all the replies and advice. I have had this comp on the barrel for a few years and at least 10,000 rounds and have never cleaned it. I will check for a false crown and give everything a good cleaning. I can tell a little difference with and without the comp, so I will try the tandemkross comp.
  10. I have a Ruger 22/45 I use for Open Rimfire Pistol. It has a CMore mounted and TacSol barrel. It is threaded, and I have one of the TacSol compensators on it. I recently noticed that accuracy started diminishing. I got a variety of ammo and shot it at 25 yards off sandbags and it shot about 8 inch 10-shot groups. I thought maybe the CMore mount must have come loose, so I removed and loctited the mounting screws again. Went back to the range and got 8 inch groups again. I removed the compensator, and the pistol immediately began shooting 1 inch groups at 25 yards. Has anyone ever experienced this with the TacSol compensator? Is is just dirty? Thanks for your input.
  11. RiggerJJ is correct; use an undersize resizing die. You can get them from Lee or EGW. I tried several Dillon dies and could not get one that did not prevent setback. I got a Lee undersize die and have not had any problems since.
  12. I really like the 1911 grip angle and shoot open and limited with STI framed 2011's. I am interested in shooting carry optics and have a Glock 34 with a DeltaPro sight. However, I have trouble picking up the dot since I have to push the Glock down compared to the 1911/2011. Could a Polymer 80 frame be considered a legal Glock frame modification for Carry Optics? The Polymer 80 frame has the familiar 1911 grip angle.
  13. N310 has been my favorite powder for 9mm, 40 S&W and 45 ACP. I currently use 2.8 g of N310 under a coated 145 g bullet for Steel Challenge in a PCC and Glock 34. For Limited Division, I run it under a 180 g jacketed bullet LOADED LONG (1.220), and I used it exclusively for a long time in 45 ACP. I tried N320 for 9mm, but N310 was a lot more accurate for me. There are some who say that N310 is on the ragged edge of safety and that your guns will all explode, but if used in supported chambers for 9mm and 40 S&W, I have never had a problem. If using in a Glock, I would use in an aftermarket barrel with more case support; however, I have used it in a Glock barrel sparingly without issue.
  14. I had that problem with a batch of once fired 9mm brass that I bought - it was a real hassle. I filed the decapping pin and did chants and dances around my 1050 but none of that helped. I think it might have been the mixed brass. It was damp when I got it, and maybe that had something to do with it. Again, after I suffered through depriming them all that first time, it never happened again, and I am on my 5th reloading of that same brass.
  15. I run a 1 3/4 lb trigger. After a lot of dry firing, it does not feel that light anymore.
  16. Me too. I load them until they split and have never had a problem. I use the same bucket of brass for major and minor loads.
  17. I just tested a new load for PCC: 2.8 g N310 under a 147 coated bullet. It shoots very soft, and the rifle cycles great.
  18. I am a fan of freebore so you can load to a variety of OAL and determine whatever length feeds best and lowers pressures. Send your barrel to a gunsmith that can freebore. It usually costs less than $50. It have never noticed any decrease in accuracy, either.
  19. I can understand your concern; it really bothered me to have an offset mount since the bullet moves both horizontally and vertically relative to the dot. Your bullet will cross the "windage" at only one point, and at other distances you will have to hold left or right to hit the dot. I got a Dawson Precision mount for a CMore, and it is centered above the slide and barrel. I am sure there are other mounts that center the red dot sight, also. My open gun has never had ejection issues.
  20. My favorites are from Milt Sparks: Summer Special 2 and Versa Max 2. I have tried a lot of IWB holsters, and these are the best. Unfortunately, you might have to wait several months after ordering to receive it.
  21. You got a 1.5 lb crisp trigger pull with a drop-in unit? I am jealous!
  22. I found a lot of dry firing really helped me find the dot. Practice transitions and reacquiring your grip from movement. Also, practice drawing with strong hand and changing to weak hand - this was the hardest for me to pick up the dot . If you are considering VV powders, 3N37 or 3N38 are good choices for 9mm major.
  23. I think it has to do with the format of the sport. It entails a lot of standing around and a little bit of shooting. You have to really like all aspects of USPSA: shooting, pasting targets, painting steel, picking up brass. Another is that many people enjoy shooting but are not into the competition lifestyle.
  24. That is a great photo!! I have found that running an undersize resizing die from Lee is more important than crimp. This way, I can just get the bell out, not deform the bullet and still eliminate setback.
