  1. Does anyone here know the story behind them? Some people say they are clones, some people call them knock off, and some say they started as licensed copies. I have just been curious about the facts.
  2. Was in picking up some 7mm-08 ammo at the lgs when I was about 26-27. Me: do you have any Winchester silvertip in 7-08? (Counter guy goes to get a box) Guy standing next to me: You must be new to hunting. That 7-08 is the new .243 , women and kid's gun. Me: Really, I didn't know that. Guy:. Yeah, after you decide if hunting is for you, you'll want to step up to a man's gun. Me: yeah you're probably right. What would you recommend? Guy:. Well I shoot a 300 win mag. Now that's a good dear gun. Me: Wow! That sounds really big, you must shoot them a long ways away. Guy: I've been known to knock em down at a hundred and fifty yards or so. Me: Wow! I hope I can do that too some day. Guy: Well you just have to practice and when you can keep all your shots inside a baseball at 100 yards you'll be ready. Me: OK, thanks I'll keep practicing. I thought it was best just to go along with it and not bring up that I had been deer hunting since I was 10, shooting the 7-08 for 7 or 8 years, most of my shots started at 150, and averaged 350 to 550 yards, and that I had shot a dear the last season at 800 yards. With my women and kids gun.
  3. Ok, I see now. So to run a comp you have to start with a cone slide or cut your slide to work with a cone. Or get a custom comp.
  4. I am guessing that most open guns have straight barrels as tanfoglio appears to only offer 6 inch barrels as straight barrels.
  5. It could just be marketing then I guess. However reliability make sense as well.
  6. Is there that much of a difference in the straight barrel vs the cone barrel model guns?
  7. I have to echo the above,. The size and weight of the gun over a whole day on a regular belt is going to be an unpleasent experience. Unless you are one big hombre.
  8. If only they would have carried over 92fs mags to this platform. I would have jumped on one.

    Beretta 98fs

I believe that the 98fs is the same as a 92 except that it is chambered in 9x21. If I remember correctly the 9x21 is common in countries that do not allow civillians to own "military" calibers. I would not be surprised if the conversion worked. However I have no experience with 98 series guns as 9x21 is almost non existent in the US.

    92fs

I would guess 450 or so would be a realistic price
  11. I am guessing easy as well. It would be nice if tanfoglio just opened up shop here and handled their own importing and service. They may actually gain a foothold outside of competition, and overcome some of the general shooting community's prejudice.
  12. It seems like all the dealers are out of stock of any of the higher end guns, and conversion kits are unobtanium. Any ideas as to why that is?
  13. When I was younger I shot 5 days a week, 500 rounds a day, 300 through a pistol, 200 through a rifle. It was all rimfire, but trigger time is trigger time. Things changed in life and now I am happy if I can make it to the range once a week.

    Two Eyes Open

Thank you for posting this, I am cross eye dominent as well. I have been training myself to only use my right eye since I was ten years old.with long guns it is automatic now. I can sometimes shoot a scope with both eyes open bit it takes concentration. I have to shoot a shotgun with one eye shut. I have been shooting piztols with one eye shut I will try with both eyes open using my dominent eye.
  15. It may be going back to stop for repair, I finally got ahold of them, and sent in pictures. They were very attentive on the phone.
  16. I really like minral spirits in a small cheap jewelry ultrasonic cleaner.
  17. Loctite threadlockers are actually anarobic adhesives that cure in an oxygen free environment. Blue is removeable by hand, red with heat an green is permanent. The key is super clean / degreased surfaces. On guns I have seen blue come loose under recoil often. This problem is primarily on small diameter threads where there is not a lot of surface area. My personal favorite way to ensure small screws stay put is a product called vibratite. You put a little on your threads, then let it dry for a half hour or so, then install the screw and torque it in place Vibratite remains gummy and that is why it holds things in place vs shearing off like an adhesive can on small diameter threads.
  18. Yes, I have a mill at home. I also have the hand tools needed for standard 1911 fitting. Are there any special type tools needed for the 2011?
  19. I have been thinking about building one up, but I have a number of questions on parts availability / interchangeability. Are the top ends the same as a 1911? Are the frame components the same as a 1911 (other then the frame, grip body, trigger and mag release) Does anyone make a slim single stack grip for them? Are the frames deigned for ramped barrels? Any other insights would be great.
