  1. It will be well worth talking to Adam at Atlas and listening go what he says. You may very well end up with 2 guns if shooting both USPSA and IDPA are high priority. Your gunsmith told you straight, no matter how much money and effort you put into a gun you just can't get that custom feel like you can in a 1911/2011.
  2. To answer #2 correctly: that would be a personal preference. Single stack (1911) is a different division than limited (2011) in USPSA at least. I have 0 IDPA knowledge. I personally like both and shoot both depending on what I dedicate the year to. I prefer the Sig Max 1911 ($1,200), and would call Atlas Gunworks for a 2011, which would be at the top of your price range. I have upwards of 18,000 rounds in the Sig Max and have had 0 issues. You obviously would want a different spring setup for minor VS major. I personally run a STI Edge from Dawson Precision that was their competition ready gun and have around 16,000 and no hiccups as well, but i my fun tickets were in shorter supply than you have decided to budget. I did my own trigger work. Either way, calling and talking to Adam at Atlas will give you lots of options. There are some really nice 2011s on this forum for sale also. Go to a USPSA match and ask to shoot some guns. Most people are excited to let someone drool on their toys. Have fun searching!
  3. Dissident are very cool looking, I noticed Max Michele Jr is shooting one. I haven't gotten an opportunity to get my hands on one, but my wife is probably unaware on how greatful she should be of that, because boy if I did...?
  4. I have seen a lot of Sig Sauer Max 1911 both in .40 & .45. I own one in .40. By far a better gun than my RO or Kimber which are .45. My son (12) has been shooting it for almost a year now. Best value on the market right now. We don't shoot it in minor for matches, but have just to see if it would run, and it does. We use the Wilson 47 mags with extended pads. It has EGW fire controls, Dawson Ice magwell and great aggressive grips! Good components for a $1200 gun. Only came with 2 mags tho. It's the only Sig I own, but we have run around 14,000 rounds through it and haven't had 1 hiccup.
  5. It is definitely time for a new hard copy of the current rules. With the addition of PCC and Carry Optics and all of the " best prsctices" and addendums, let's get it all back into one publication. Even an electronic all inclusive single publication would be nice. A lot of shooters are not current on all the latest changes and it makes it very difficult for someone to facilitate a stage or match. Besides it is a major time issue when you have to search through each publication and check dates to prove to a competitor or an RO what rule change I'd currently in place. USPSA headquarters should make it a high priority prior to majors getting started.
  6. Send it back and let us know what the end result is please. I bought my edge from Dawson Precision and have 0 issues after 9,500 rounds. But I can't imagine STI not wanting to make it right for you. Good luck.
  7. I like .40 just so I can load limited and single stack simultaneously. Makes buying reloading components in bulk easier. I also have a .45, but tumbling, loading, and shooting the same load is a huge time saver, especially when you have 2 shooters in the family
  8. And that is precisely why my son and I love being a part of the shooting community....and we get a kick out of making democrats mad lol
  9. Welcome to the forum. You will have plenty of information soak in here.
  10. We have a Springfield Armory RO, Kimber Custom II, and a Sig Sauer Max . The first 2 in .45 acp, and the latter in .40 S&W. We shoot all in major. So far the Sig Sauer Max is our favorite. Trigger was less than desirable, but that was an easy fix. We use extended base pads for easier reloads , but the gun has ran flawlessly for over 25,000 rounds thus far. We too like the fact that our limited load and single stack load are the same. Makes it a lot easier on all components.
  11. We have shot that gun a several big matches and never had anyone question it. Just email troy McManus and he will reply
  12. Springfield Armory custom shop installed mine. Cool thing is it is under the same great warranty! I shipped gun to them on a Thursday with their provided label and I got it back the next Thursday! Awesome gun! Dawson Precision sells mag kits that will give you 3 or 4 more rounds for carry optics.
  13. Cool! I wish I had a lathe to do that. It is a much simpler process, but I now have about 20,000 cases and all of them have been fired through my gun, so I just sell the picked up brass and use the $ for boolits . That extra .040 you get is awesome!
  14. I use a lee I use a Lee undersize carbide die and have had some that would not plunk and spin. I bought the Redding grx carbide push through die and haven't had that issue since. I am lucky enough to have the police chief let me know when they are set to qualify so I can clean the range. Wouldn't want them to trip and fall on that brass stuff lol
  15. Just watch for the "glock" fired stuff. You can use a Redding carbide push through die to fix the glock fired stuff tho. Don't throw it away. Other wise as long as it is brass, no need to sort.
  16. Order the Blue, you will be happy. As per chrono results out of my edge and Sig max, the blues were faster than xtreme plated and bbi loaded to same length and same powder charge. On avg. 35 fps faster than bbi and 61 fps faster than the plated.
  17. Wish you a short road to the right load!
  18. Interesting. I own a 5.25 and enjoy it, but have not tried open or carry optic yet. Good info for me to keep on file though. Thanks
  19. Is muzzle rise and tracking the dot not tougher with the shorter slide?
  20. Whether you are shooting 8rd SS major or 30 rd Open: Don't consciously count! Do not max your round count and train to reload if the " plan" fails to get back on track like a few of the others have stated. If you want to get better at stage planning, shoot revolver of single stack.
  21. Broadus123 is on to something. I also have swapped to Blue Bullets for the same reason. When a company changes size or their restriking dies wear out the entire profile is affected and will have adverse effects in the loading process. I would do like Sarge says. Buy several sample packs , load 1 round at a time, barrel check that round until you find the "max" length for that bullet and your barrel. Then load 5 put them in a magazine and cycle them through your gun. Then load 20 and shoot them and so on. Each bullet company may end up at a different length. Reliability and accuracy is what the goal is though. Good luck And be patient.
  22. Blue Bullets!! Hard to beat their price, service, and flexibility of bullet subscriptions, sponsorships! Awesome group
  23. Why would you not buy the 5.25 competition xdm? It can be used in production, carry optics, or limited minor (not that I recommend minor in lkmited).
