  1. What we are looking at is 2 extra rounds in the hands of a native American(politicaly correct hat on), who can shoot. If you plan on winning the match like most of the people at the match are trying to do. The thought process going into the match is why shoot minor? I am already at a disadvantage point wise, why give up those precious points? A person who wins the stage will do so by executing the stage to perfection, with minimial points dropped and a fast time(which means shooing no extra shots, typically). We all know this. Can it be done shooting minor? yes. Statistics show that someone shooting minor has not won a Nationals event. fact. Can it be won shooting minor? Yes, but has not been done, nor do we have enough of a sample size of the top dogs doing so to change the other top dog's mind about shooting minor. Personally, I think the added 2 extra rounds in the hands of an A, B, and even Master class shooters can come in handy. But to the Top shooters in the country, they know what they need to do to be successful, and the thought of carrying extra rounds so if you miss you can have one, is not the type of thinking you want to have going into a major event. I think you want to think about executing your plan to perfection, moreso than thinking about missing or shooting a delta. having the 2 extra rounds is not going to be a huge advantage like having a cmore on your gun versus someone who is shooting iron sights. That was a major advantage that was quickly realized, When Barnhart blew everyone away using an optic as opposed to an iron sighted weapon, and quickly the top dogs moved that direction. If or when you see a top dog win a Nationals shooting minor, you may get some of the top dog's to change to minor, but until then, they will be shooting Major. JMHO
  2. you could put regular tape over your grip tape. just a suggestion, never had that problem.
  3. are you chromed already? if so you will have to re-chrome the lower.. If you are unsure, send it to a competent gunsmith. But you are from Italy(just saw this). slow approach, I have taken a 1/2" dowel and wrapped some sandpaper around it, and go to work. Be sure to tape up the checkering on your frontstrap so that you don't accidently hit it. fast approach. Dremel with a cylinder, then sand. tape up the surrounding area, and be very careful and try to remove material consistently throughout the whole process.
  4. Blake Miguez uses 200gr hornady with N320, but I know his load is short, maybe 1.165". He is also shooting a long dustcover gun that is extremely heavy, by choice. Maybe there is something to the heavy bullet. lol, I have always shot 180gr bullets, more of a snap, than a push
  5. A better way to say it is that he lost the number one spot BECAUSE he was shooting minor. Its all about the points! go with .40cal
  6. Glock 35 with arredondo base pads, CR Speed rig, factory ammunition .Won limited division in my first match! I remember being really nervous and my hands were sooo sweaty. Its funny I will watch some of the old footage of me shooting that gun, and I could see all the mistakes I was making at that time, and it is very humbling, knowing were I started from to where I am today. great topic!
  7. The answer is yes use the permanent Loctite(red), due to the thickness of the frame lacking a lot of material. With all the vibration and shock the mount will be going through it is definitely recommended.
  8. What you might try doing is polishing the ramp to a mirror finish, and see if the 13# can work reliably, if you have not already done so. What profile bullet are you using and what length are you loading to? ie round nose, might aid in the feeding of the bullet into the chamber, loading a little longer might aid in feeding properly. Personally I like my bullets pointing at the chamber, when the slide is in the slide lock position with little bullet travel into the chamber.
  9. All of these comments are good advice... What I say. You get what you put into the sport. You have to be a student of the game, not just on the range. You almost have to eat, sleep, drink uspsa if you want to be successful. Natural talent will only get you so far, you must put the work in and gain experience in order to get to higher levels. Set goals, and achieve them...
  10. yes, but clean all the oil out and excess Loctite boogers first.
  11. Words of wisdom there. I like how the Dawson flares out at the bottom, allows me to really lock the gun into my hands, couple that with a little skateboard tape on the magwell and I can get a rock solid grip.
  12. I have been trying a Wilson 45acp ETM magazine out of my .40cal custom build, so far no hiccups, runs well. You can get 9ronds in the magazine with the factory follower!
  13. My double stack .45 only holds 13 in a 140mm mag with Grams follower?!? Only 13? Nice looking gun though!
  14. I used to have tennis elbow, but I could attribute it to a lot of reloading on a 550 with no case lube, back in the day. Hornady One Shot was the best thing for my Tennis elbow. lol
  15. You will not get it with a cape magwell, even thought they look cool. Your best bet is a dawson. IMHO the standard ice model is meant for small to medium hand size. the Brazos sits a little lower in the front, which is really not what your looking for. There is really no magwell out there dedicated for small hands
  16. +1 I would use the heat method, but be sure to take your grips off.
  17. is original poster Ekujustice??? I am aware of the differences of load development between the two guns. If you don't want to clean the comp, then shoot bullets that are a cmj's or hollowpoints and don't use lead. That's the easy answer. As to Original Poster if its not Ekujustice, your comp will lead up faster shooting lead/moly I would imagine. I shoot strictly hollowpoints through my open guns and I still have to clean the comp out with a dental pick, but I can only imagine the plaque buildup after shooting lead/moly through it. I think if you keep the comp clean than I wouldn't see a possible problem shooting lead/moly, except for the smoke.
  18. I don't really know why open shooters (especially 9 major) don't use a moly type bullet, moly/lead on avg. can yields a 8-10% fps increase, plus we know what lead/moly does " it smokes" Why not use that smoke to be redirected upward to create stability in the gun? I know shooting moly coated bullets in a limited gun feels a lot softer than jacketed bullets imho, so I believe it might/could translate to shooting open as well. I know that lead/moly coated bullets are a pain to clean, especially lead. Personally I think it should be tried, to see what the end result would be. who knows you might like it...
  19. Look at your guide rod head and where it meets the frame, if you see peening on the frame, than essentially your frame is getting battered. 12.5 is not uncommon, I shoot with an 11lb spring, 6" gun probably avg 172pf
  20. if you need extra throating, a competent gunsmith could have throated it about 5-10 min max. Pretty simple procedure....
