  1. Do y’all have dedicated dry fire mags that you leave loaded all the time? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. I have always just topped off a mag with one dummy round to dry fire reloads and no mag on draws. Yesterday for some reason I loaded up a mag with dummy rounds and I had a lot more trouble with reloads, I guess from the extra weight. I’m gonna leave the mag loaded for a few weeks of practice and see if it was a fluke session or if it matters. What do you guys do with mags during dryfire? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. I really like the entry and exit drills in skills and drills reloaded. That’s something that I never really worked on before and it was definitely my low hanging fruit. Also, doubles drill is one that a lot of people over look but has helped me a ton. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. I went with a Springfield RO and I wish I had spent the few hundred extra and gone with a Dan Wesson PM9. It’s just a nicer gun with better fit and finish. If you don’t care about front strap checkering, undercut trigger guard, and front serrations then the RO is just fine. With 10,000 plus rounds my RO has ran flawlessly. For extras I like the Dawson no gap magwell, Dawson mag catch with the big button, and VZ grips of your choice. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. I’m sure you already have this figured out but +1 for DAA racer pouches. I started with blade tech and the DAA are super smooth out and the belt stays in place better with the smaller attachment. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. 9mm - Dawson, 45 - Wilson Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. I think it has more to do with the price of Kimber vs quality of the gun. At the lower price points you can get a Springfield that is probably better fit and at the mid to upper Kimber prices, you can get a Dan Wesson that is a much nicer gun. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. If you don’t like the palm swells techwell, I think you can get some LOK grips. As far as standard profile 1911 grips, it’s probably just in my head but the VZ Aliens feel thicker in the hand than most standard grips. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. This is one of those things that come and go for me. I will have a series of targets with an A and a low C and it is almost always because I am smashing the gun with my dominant hand. The only mental thing that has helped me is consciously thinking about what my trigger finger is doing. Usually when I focus on that one thing I relax my right hand grip to the point that I’m not moving my whole hand. The drill that I find the most helpful on this is the doubles drill. I usually set it up at 7, 15, and 25 yards. I’ll start with 50 rounds at each distance and then I usually do another 50 at 15. I try and do this the first half of the practice before a match and spend the second half working transitions or movement. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. You’re right that reloads can help a lot on classifiers, but I think most people discount transitions on the stand and shoot stages. If you’re not familiar look up Stoeger’s distance change up drill. This drill has helped me a lot on transitions from open to partials on classifiers and in regular stages. As far as reloads go, when looking at B class it’s more important to have a great grip after the reload than to smash out sub second reloads. However, I found breaking the reload into two separate motions helped me a lot, especially getting the gun pushed back out on target quickly. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. A lot of pulling the trigger faster has to with how quickly you get off the trigger. Most people tend to pin the trigger to the rear far too long. As soon as a shot breaks you should be resetting and prepping for the next pull. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. I agree with the shoot what you have mentality. However, my first year I was shooting a G34 and didn’t really like the gun all that much. It meant that I didn’t practice much and it took me a year to make C class. This January I got a single stack and just getting the new gun that felt better and I liked more caused me to want to practice. I won my class at a major this year and have moved up to a solid B class shooter. I don’t think the gun made me shoot any better and some of the gun handling is more difficult with the single stack. But I will say that changing platforms to a gun that you like will cause to practice more, at least initially. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Anyone have opinions on this vs a Dawson? I’m looking at building a 2011 and am curious if it’s really better. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. I started shooting almost two years ago and waited until June to shoot my first major. I wish I had gone to one sooner. I started really practicing with something to look forward to and it has motivated me to keep going. As long as you are up on your safety for USPSA I say find one and take a buddy. 15. I shoot 1-2 per month. I was shooting a few more but it cut into my practice too much. Now I practice every weekend and shoot my local and work in a few majors. I found that 300 rounds of practice helps my shooting a lot more than a 5 stage local. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. I would suggest a 34 with either Dawson or TTI sights. A TTI trigger kit if you just have to have a lighter or smoother trigger. I wouldn’t go with an aftermarket trigger or striker. I put a lot of money into a 34 and now it is back to stock other than the Dawson adjustable sights. After a year I found out my gun was less reliable and I could have bought a lot of reloading components with what I spent. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Just to be clear, I can't use a cover in Production?
  18. If I grind the back, won't it slide through the front of the slide? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Good to know, I'm mainly concerned with reliability. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. That's including weekly range time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. I'm shooting a Glock and I really like the bladetech mag pouches, I was told to go for the CR Speed because I can use STI mags with them but I figure if I am buying an STI then I can probably afford new mag pouches.
  22. Congrats on beating cancer! I'm hoping to advance to be competitive in B class by the end of the year. Getting there feels easy, putting an entire match together is killing me.
  23. I noticed a huge difference when I went from factory 115 to reloaded 147. The 147 feels a lot more like a 45 recoil than the snappy 9 or 40.
  24. Would zeroing the pistol differ from person to person. IE: someone shooting with one eye open vs both eyes open?
  25. How many rounds per hour can I realistically get on a SDB?
