  1. You can't run lighter than an 11 pound recoil spring in a glock without encountering a host of issues around not reseting the striker and stuff. A 19/2011 allows you to run springs down to like 6#, since the recoil spring doesn't have an effect on cocking the gun. If your 2011 is cycling slowly, go down a spring weight and test. Understood. I just forgot to mention that I had to go up in spring weight to get my glock to run reliably and I was not a fan of the feel. As for the 2011. I couldn’t get the accuracy out of that particular load that I was getting with other loads. I didn’t dabble long with it. Just wanted to mention that I believe the potential is there and it should be worth exploring. Every setup is different. It’s just a matter of how much time you want to spend testing.
  2. I haven’t tried it but I was thinking about it being easier to set up and run efficiently in 40. Not that it couldn’t be done in a 9 version. Plenty of people have. But in my experience it took quite a bit of work. Different issues arose for me and my buddy on 9. The glock mag limits you on oal so I was always worried about doing it on 9. Not a lot of margin for error. I was about to venture into making a open 40 glock but came across a good deal on a 2011 in 40. Shooting that 2011 really wanted me to explore more in an open 40 glock but I never got around to it. All I would need is a compensator for it and I may revisit. I know in my 2011 I have some rounds that produce a lot of gas and the slide manipulate fairly slowly. I would think that it would be a great load in the glock so you can run lighter recoil springs.
  3. I second the Dawson toolless guide rod as well. Especially if you aren’t exactly sure which spring to run. 9 is definitely a good starting place but I like to have a variation of springs to start out with. They may cycle your gun but you may find the yourself more in sync with the rhythm even if you go up just a little bit or down. It’s such a preference thing. Keep the spring bags or establish a way to track and make notes once you have used them a bit. That way you won’t question their integrity going forward.
  4. Also forgot to mention that I have never shot with the venom. I’ve handled one at a shop. It was nice but I didn’t like the sight window. Maybe it would have been different mounted and for a competition but I’ve settled with the dpp’s
  5. I can say I’ve used both versions of the dpp and I absolutely love them both. for competition use I prefer them both over the rmr dual illuminated and adjustable led and also the ff3. Both versions have their pros and cons and I’ve ran them for about the same amount of competitions each. I can’t say I prefer one over the other since they are on different open pistols right now. The 2.5 Moa is definitely the brightest I’ve seen. No amount of sun I’ve seen has washed the dot out. It’s pretty awesome. It appears to bloom in lower light conditions at stronger brightness settings but in full sun it becomes a very well defined dot. It’s always been a crisp dot and it really doesn’t feel like a 2.5 moa dot. Awesome accuracy. As for the triangle I like the speed of acquisition with that one. It’s definitely not as bright as the 2.5 moa but pretty bright. The 7.5 triangle however looks like a 12moa dot though. It’s huge and under fast movement it really looks like a big dot as you are moving. However if you slow it down just a bit for distance shots you can clearly make out the upper point of the triangle for precision. For this one as well I’ve never seen wash out in sunlight. Maybe because it just looks so big though. Both dots are great options. So far I prefer the 2.5 for all steel and the 7.5 for close targets. About equal for shots past 25 yards.
  6. LOoking forward to seeing your results. I’m in the middle of doing the same thing with Sil as well. If you haven’t seen pressure signs from the brass I would keep working up the load as well. I’ve got some loaded at about 8.0 grn behind a 115. Unfortunately I haven’t had time to chrono those yet so they’re just sitting around for now. I have loaded and fired 8.3 behind a blue bullet 125 (weighs in at about 128) and I didn’t see any pressure signs in my brass. I wouldn’t be surprised if you have more room to play with. So far I’m loving the result of sil. forgot to mention I loaded around 1.160
  7. I’ve shot blues through my open as well. It does work. I haven’t shot enough of them in open to clog up the comp yet but others are right. The PD is a good deal and won’t require the same amount of maintenance as the blues. I’ve recently made the switch to PDs. Also with the blues no matter what I tried I wasn’t able to keep a good consistent group at 25 yards in my open pistol. They were fine up to about 20 and at 15 they were just as good as the PDs in accuracy. The accuracy of the PDs at 25 yards was my deciding factor in switching over.
  8. Not as good a price as PD but have you tried Everglades? http://www.evergladesammo.com/bullets/9mm-125gr-jhp-tc-bullets.html. I know some guys who use them and like them. Should be pretty consistent. Sorry to hear about your issues with the card info.
  9. Racer-x, you wouldnt happen to try aa7 with a 124 did you? Im looking to experiment with 115 and aa7 as well. Ive done this with 124 and would like to interpolate a starting point based off the differences of our barrels. I currently use 9.5 for a 124 to get about 1380fps.
  10. I had similar issues when loading the same bullet. Getting the crimp right was a big part of it as most have said. I cant find my oal for that specific round but i want to say it was around 1.130. Loaded it for a glock22 with 9 conversion barrel. I also found that the lyman m expanding die helped a lot with consistency of seating those bullets as well. Using the lee expander i wouldnt be able to press the bullets as straight down as i wanted. With the 147 that youre using it was enough to cause the ogive to kiss the lands and not go to full battery especially at the longer range of your oal. It could also fail the chamber check as well. Switching to the m die pretty much eliminated that issue. I now use the lyman m for all my expansion needs. They are pretty much the same design as the daa powderfunnels (i recently switched to these since i got a bullet feeder and lost a stage) Excellent product that i would highly recommend.
  11. Any update on the issue? I agree with the comments by Muncie21. I had similar issues with my glock when i was running it in competitions. I went ahead and replaced all my springs amd the issue went away. I also never noticed any degradation of the springs in a linear manner. It went from perfect reliable operations to the even more failures than you were seeing.
  12. . I didnt mean it was a bad thing that you were using that much of hs6. It is just different from the circle of shooters that im around. Most of tthe people i know are using schuemann barrels. I assume you have checked for signs of overpressure as well. If theres nothing there than happy shooting. I believe racer-x stated very well the whats going on. Differences in barrel is most likely the culprit. I guess for another data point for the group, my schuemann ultimatch at 4.25 with no popples produces about the same numbers as stickman301 with about 0.2grns less of each powder.
  13. Im also surprised that it is taking that much for you to make major. I did it with about 7.7 in a 4.25 barrel. No popples. It was right about 170pf for me. As. For excessive heat, i didnt feel that was an issue. Felt pretty normal to me. Ran a couplemof hundred rounds for a practice session and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Good luck with the experiments as well. Out of the powders you mentioned i like aa7 the best. Full case volume with lots of gas for the comp. Autocomp was nice but a bit snappy. Hear it is better in full sized open.
  14. Are you using uncoated lead? All the smoke could be from the burning of the lube that was used. I had lots of smoking using uncoated lead. It’s a lot less with coated rounds. I normally use the blue bullets. That stuff gets all over your fingers though. Any of the hi-tek coated stuff is good as well like bayou. Not a fan of the moly coated bullets. Got some to try and it take a little more to clean the barrel.
  15. Just in case if anyone needed the chrono data. My loads at the match were 1370, 1388, and 1386. Pretty consistent stuff
  16. I use the 125 grn blue bullets in 9 major. I’m like a lot of the guys here. Videos will show some smoke but it’s never bothered me while shooting. Also use ibejiheads as well. I feel like the coating they use smokes a little less. I use those in 40 major open division.
  17. I am running 9.5gr of aa7 with PD 124. Oal at about 1.160 was showing slight pressure signs. My chrono was showing about 1360fps. Got a level 2 match tomorrow. I’ll post later what the official chrono is. Also shooting it out of a Shorty with no popples and a cheely comp. I increased the oal to about a 1.172 for the match also
  18. I don’t know many people who use the lee but I think there are a couple of options out there for dialing in loads. They came up when I did my preliminary research on which loader to buy. You should be able to buy blank disks and drill them out your self. Can’t remember who. I also so this from lee that sounds like is more what you need. https://www.amazon.com/Lee-Precision-Adjustable-Charge-Bar/dp/B00162RPDG hopefully this is what you are looking for Blue_dot_glock
  19. I agree. I use them for practice in my 43 and I have had no issues. Barrel is still clean after hundreds of rounds. Just use your favorite load data and have fun. I use 4.8 of Cfe pistol behind their 125. Feels similar to my Self defense rounds.
  20. I'm a fellow lefty as well. I'm actually starting to practice right handed shooting as well. I'm actually cross dominant. Left hand and right eye dominant so certain aspects are easier shooting with the right hand. As some of the others have said just keep practicing and it will feel natural. With the left hand my grip places my middle finger right under the mag release. I roll it upwards to drop the mag. This felt the most natural to me since I didn't like breaking my grip. I also have smaller hands as well. If you already have the mag release on the right side have you looked at the limcat mag release? I use that one. It is shaped like a pill and is long enough that I can reach it using my thumb without really breaking my grip.
