  1. I used my 629 in USPSA a bit. It was fun, until one match when the classifier was "Can You Count" (2 strings of 5 shots, reload, 5 shots into close targets). Ouch.
  2. I'm going to campaign for a 2" 627 with a dot. Shooting major. Because reasons.
  3. Guess I was drunk when I took the survey? I seem to remember thinking that it was the same power factor as IDPA. If only ICORE had this information posted ANYWHERE other than a survey that you can no longer access once you answer it.
  4. And marginalize the L6 minor guns? Not sure how that's better. I shoot L6 because I like the frame size (S&W 686) and/or they don't make my gun in 8-shot (Chiappa Charging Rhino). I'm not going to try to make 9 major with the latter just because people with 625's complain about recoil when they can already run in L6. I shoot .357 in IDPA and my split times are barely, if at all, slower than when I run .38. And that doesn't even have the advantage of the bigger diameter holes...
  5. I’ve never watched you closely enough. So you shoot thumbs-over, not thumbs-forward? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. For the "grip it and rip it" crowd - are you also clamping hard with your strong hand thumb (in other words, across the top of the backstrap)? I'm finding that my thumb is hitting the cylinder release when I white-knuckle it. I feel like I have a little less trigger control, too.
  7. This. And I actively shoot L6. There were 19 of us at the 2018 IRC. Limited had 72, Open had 60. Why would we divide up a division that's already one-third of the common divisions when the hypothetical L6 Major shooters can already use their equipment in the current L6? I mean... that's how SASS does it?
  8. Are you loaded long? I get the same numbers with the exact same combo but using only 3.1 grains (9mm 1911). 3.3 was giving me an average of 940. I’m loaded to 1.141”. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. I believe Pinnacle High Performance does it as well.
  10. Sure, but given the level of shooter who was running it (Dave O. at IRC) your have to wonder - would they have placed higher with a Smith? I played with the prototype a little. It was... fine, but it still had the "oh God where's the break?!" Ruger trigger. Not saying it's a bad gun, or that it's going to fail or anything, but I don't see a reason for current shooters to change platforms for it.
  11. I don’t grab the forcing cone...? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Doubling back to the load question... I use those SNS 160's and love them. Nice and heavy with a long, tapered ogive. After trying a few loads I settled on 3.7 - 3.8 grains of Titegroup loaded out to 1.505". They make 131-133 PF in a 6" gun and 124 PF in a 4". I don't like TG in short cases (ie. 9mm) but it's pretty mild in the longer .38 brass. It's also such a fast burner that it gets full ignition even at a relatively low drop weight and I haven't noticed any position sensitivity.
  13. Oh, Pat. Never change. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. I did some draw and fire practice with my IDPA rig today (4" 686 shooting .357) and definitely noticed a difference with a tighter grip. I also noticed that I really liked the Bill Davis grips I'd put on... until my hands starting sweating, lol. Should be fine for short IDPA stages, though.
  15. It's the best option for IDPA (and looks swell under a safari vest!).
  16. Hey all! I'm wondering if anyone has tried to cram a P10S into the BUG box. It looks like it's a hair too long but the manufacturer specs usually aren't too exact. BUG Guidelines: Max Barrel Length: 3.5” Max Length: 6.5" Max Width: 1.375" Max Height: 4.625" Max Weight: 26 oz P10S Specs: Barrel Length: 3.5” Length: 6.6" Width: 1.25” Height: 4.6” Weight: 24.4 ozs
  17. What division are you running? I guess technically it could go in ESP or SSP, right? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. So... sorry to be one of those people but I find myself in the market for a new USPSA gun and I'm wondering what everyone's long-term thoughts are on the Pro XT? I've had my eye on it since it came out but always shied away from it for one reason or another. The (relatively) low-cap mags are a disadvantage, but the fact that the trigger pull rivals a tuned-up CZ has me looking at it really hard. My only concern is that my stubby sausage fingers won't be able to run it properly. Also, this is decocker-only, correct? No option to run it in single action with a safety?
  19. Those are like... Sir Mixalot BIG butt Big Butts. Custom?
  20. Really good advice in this thread - thank you. I'm still going to work on splits - I feel like they could be faster than they are without getting sloppy. I'll start looking at other parts of my game, too. I know for sure that my draw is slow, but I think I could find room for improvement in target acquisition and reloads, too.
  21. Oh, yeah, this one is for sure. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Thank you everyone! I'll start working some of these into my range time. Interesting. So you get a full sight picture before you break each shot?
