  1. Because the 2 choices are AC or HS6... plus there's not a ton of data out there yet for 572. AC and HS6 are much more popular for 9 major.
  2. I'm going to politely disagree with this. I'd recommend going out and buying a solid running used open gun and then shoot it for a year. You'll never know what you want in an open gun without shooting one for awhile. Then that gun can either become your backup or you can sell it to help fun the new gun.
  3. I tried a couple pounds of it with 115 HAPs and liked it. I just got tired of the very very full case when loading. I was loading 9.5 grains at 1.175 for ~170 pf. Start around 8ish grains and work up from there.
  4. FWIW CHA-LEE is not a spammer. He's done more experimenting and testing that most everyone else on this board. Go read his range diary. It's just frustrating answering the same question over and over. Just use the search function.
  5. Lol. You asked the people with experience if shooting minor for awhile before going major made sense. The majority said no. Now it just seems like you want to argue. You shooting major or minor doesn't affect any of us, so do as you will.
  6. This discussion is about whether or not there's anything to gain by shooting minor for awhile before moving up to major pf. I don't see any advantage. With a major load tuned to your you should be able to shoot as fast (or faster) than with minor AND score more points. If you plan on shooting major loads eventually anyways you might as well get used to how the fun feels and tracks with major loads from the start. You will be better off. All that being said. If you want to shoot minor, go shoot Minor. It won't bother me. The majority of people here will tell you to shoot major because that's what makes sense from the perspective of trying to win. I guess I don't understand the point of this thread? Is it just an announcement of intent to shoot minor?
  7. The only real way to settle this is to develop a good major load and run it on the clock vs your preferred minor load and see what's fastest. The timer doesn't lie.
  8. Thanks again. I've been using Lil' Gun for my heavy subs and supers. I should probably get an idea of how much throat room I really have to work with since I'm not restricted to mag length.
  9. Sorry for my vague reply. I was just saying that logic dictates I should be able to easily achieve 1000 fps with fast powders like TG and m1 bullets. I just don't have the experience with such small charge weights in a larger case to know how "safe" it is. 800x is rather bulky which might help take up some of the space but it seems like it's probably still a little slower than ideal. I guess I'll give TG a go and see what happens. This is purely a low cost, low recoil, quiet plinking load using cheapo plated bullets. I have other, much better, loads for hunting and the like. I'll have to look into that XTP idea though. It sounds promising. Thanks for the info. I'm still rather new to 300 blk reloading and couldn't find anything like what i was looking for.
  10. Thanks for the reply. I guess I'm looking for something that people just haven't rearly bothered with. 1680 is way slow in comparison to what logic tells me I "can" use. I'm just a little leery of small charge weights in a largish case. I'm gonna start some testing with the pistol powders I have on hand and go from there.
  11. Heck, some powders you can't even fit enough in a 9mm case to cause an issue. 3n38 for example
  12. With a slide mounted dot, you probably won't have quite as much of an adjustment to make as with a frame mounted one. You should be able to square it away with dryfire though.
  13. It's not premature lockback that most 2011 shooters are worried about. It's damage from over insertion of a magazine. It's really easy to do and will completely lock your gun up and/or break stuff that's not so easily replaced.
  14. You might get more response in the 1911 style forum
  15. What's the max length they will still pass the plunk test at? I would try a longer oal and see what happens.
  16. I'm assuming minor pf? What powder? Have you plunk tested your barrels? We need more details
  17. That'd be my choice. I have a .45 cal Trojan, but have been oh so close to buying a 9mm RO as a minor gun several times.
  18. If it were my $1k I'd go Springfield RO if I wanted a new gun. Or find a nice used STI Trojan. This is assuming 1k is a hard budget
  19. I'd really love one to try out. At least for a dryfire session just to get a feel for it. But honestly at this point, another 170 still seems more appealing to me because I have no backup. If I manage to find the funds for a 170 AND a 5th mag It will probably be a 155.
  20. Well at this point I've been running off 1 170 and 2 140s but I would like to add at least one more mag. My gut tells me to get another 170 and call it a day. But I'm half tempted to give a 155 a try to see if it might add any extra utility
  21. That's my concern as well. I can't think of a situation that loading to a 155 would be significantly better than loading to a 170 or a 140
  22. You may check with Gary Natale (Gans Guns) and see if he does that sort of thing. He's got pretty quick turnaround and he's a great machinist. Or just start calling around to the usual suspects see whose willing to take on a small job like that. Most are probably pretty busy with off season builds though
  23. You guys are making me wonder what I'm missing with the 155s
  24. Do the 155s really load as quick as 140s though?
