  1. I started in Limited with a Glock 35. I added the Zev internals (Trigger, Springs, Striker), magwell and Taran Basepads. I ran major with normal spec .40S&W ammo. For me, since I am still new to this sport, I wanted to shoot major so my misses (C and D zone hits) are not as much as a drop as with minor. I have since moved to a 2011 platform. If you want a good starting point for limited then I'd either go with an M&P or Glock. There are more aftermarket options with both of them and you can normally fine great used deals.

    More AFTEC

I know the instructions talks about having to file down the Firing pin stop to fit the groove in the extractor. Most people do file down the hook a bit.

    More AFTEC

No, the Aftec is the Extractor that is being used and tuned.
  4. I run 124 gram Precision Delta JHP with 8.6 grn of HS-6 in my DVC Open and it's a great load. I measure 172 pf on average. I will be trying both a 3n38 and n105 load soon.
  5. Back when I was in the Golf industry, the Club Pros, like myself, were the ones who seems to get the better deals and the ones who were asked to really push the product. Since the Club pros are the people who are out on the course, giving lessons, and giving product recommendations. My guess in the shooting world, since there is no real prize money, sponsorships are the best way to keep ones costs down. I would have no problem advertising and promoting ones products, as long as I feel the products are good. If it's free product or reduced costs, as long as I can keep shooting I'm good.
  6. If you look at the Overall standing in the top 20 shooters, 16 are open, 3 are PCC and 1 CO. So yeah I think Open right now is still king.
  7. I think a PCC will always have an advantage over a pistol. You have 3 points of contact always with a rifle unless you one hand it. Now that's what is nice about USPSA and I, an Open shooter, am not competing against the rifles. Now I did think there were stages at nationals that really were harder for PCC than for a pistol.
  8. I didn't think it was that hard of a stage. It was one where you really needed to focus and slow down. It showed me where my weaknesses are, as a top level match should. I expect to be tested and pushed at nationals. I liked having this combined nationals where they could really push the limits of the guns being used. I wouldn't want to simplify stages to make them fair for limited capacity guns. Talking to Max after the awards he commented that he broke a recoil spring on stage 18.
  9. Most classifiers are short and are not really high points. The best advice I got when starting out was to get your hits and speed will come later. If you are just starting out then that's what I would do.
  10. Welcome to the forums. What part of Florida? Lots of matches to shoot down here.
  11. I would agree here. Run your first few matches Limited Minor and learn how the match flows and be safe. Once you get a few matches under your belt then you can either go Production or put the dot on and run Carry optic.
  12. No I just suck no matter what gun I use.
  13. I've done the same thing to help get enough for an initial classification.
  14. Enjoy the larger match. Level 2 matches are fun and a blast to shoot. You may see some different setups and starting positions which are all fun. I remember last year doing the Florida State Championship as a D shooter. I was able to squad with a bunch of shooters from our local club and it was a blast and felt just like a local match. I actually placed 3rd Limited D. I did feel a bit intimidated last year at Limited Nationals, but that was because the Super Squad was right behind us and would be finished and waiting most of the stages while we had 1 or 2 shooters left. What was cool about that was I got a couple tips from a few of them after one of my runs. Enjoy the match and have a blast.
  15. I started with a couple uncle mikes Double mag holsters for a few months until I made sure I found something I liked. I then got a Black Scorpion belt and Ghost pouches. I moved to the CR Speed pouches after a bit. I liked them better, and still use them for Single stack and Production rigs. Any of the belts are a good choice. Don't feel like you have to get a CR belt if you buy the CR pouches.
  16. The DAA Racers will go Bullets out. I know a few guys at our club that run them.
  17. It looks like you need to engage both strings from each box. So I plan on doing freestyle on partial targets and then strong hand from 35yrd box and Weak hand from 20 yrs.
  18. When I'm out and about alone it's my M&P Shield, +1 extra Mag. When I've got my kids with me (2 yr and 4 Mo) I have FNS in the super secret pocket in the Diaper Bag. The down side of carrying in Florida is I wind up wearing shorts and a t-shirt 90% of the time. So it's hard to conceal a full size on your person. So I like to keep something in my car, and in the diaper bag when I;m out with the family.
  19. if you are the event go to Squad list and you should see an edit button by your name. Click that then enter your pin. Then you can change your info if you need to.
  20. I am a Low C/High D shooter and I have been getting the same points as the M/A shooters at my club, but they are always 3-4 seconds faster than me on each stage. You have to see where you are taking your time. Are you taking too much time between 1st and 2nd shot, slow getting into a shooting position, or is it your stage plan. I have started to video myself from a far to see how I move during a stage. I have noticed that, for me it's getting into position. I move to the next shooting spot, get set then engage the target instead of doing all that at once. As I plant my feet my gun needs to come out and by the time I'm set, my first shot needs to be off. This is something I will work on for the next few months. Watch what the other top shooters in your Division are doing, watch their stage plan and try to do it the same way. This way we can rule out stage plan.
  21. On Matchsignup you can edit your information but you can not withdraw. You will have to email the match director.
  22. I ran with CR Speeds for a year plus. I liked them. Easy to install once you set them up they don't move. Easy to adjust the retention. I only moved to race masters for Open due to the adjustability of them. I still run my CR speeds for Single Stack.
  23. My guess is the mag cap is to level the field without having to get new equipment. So you basically have an Optic and Iron Sight divisions. This way if I choose to compete with my Glock I don't have to go out and get mag extensions to bring me to the same capacity as a 2011.
  24. I have to agree with davsco. I have had no issues with my Limited and Open DVC. They have run for me right out of the box and the only issue I had with my open was something that I did. I ran 38 Super ammo in it when it came from the factory tuned for SuperComp. I changed ammo and it's running great. I would be curious to see what the actual % of defects is for them. If STI sells 5000 DVC Opens and they have 50 that have issues then its the same as another custom who builds 10 and has 1 come back. As we all know if one person has a good experience they will tell 1 person, but if they have a bad experience they will tell 10. No one ever calls a customer service number to tell them they make a great product. Now issues out of the box are one thing, but how many of these issues are user error. Not Cleaning, wrong ammo loads, ect.
