  1. I have seen several learn at home course, dont know how good they are. I started out as a gun-nut and progressed from there. A lot should depend on what and how much you want to do. Full line gunsmith, basment gunsmith for your own benifit or a specialist, ala 1911 only. If you have a local vocational school, see if they have a machine shop class, take it. this is a good start. I have seen Daves work and his on line class should be very good, he is also working on DVDs, I think he has one or two out already. There are also a lot of books on gunsmithing, always a valuable resource. Id say I have 50 or 60 books some are ref. only, some are worthless and some are worth there weight in gold. It takes a lot of time, paticnce and money but if you enjoy it its worth it. Buy the best files and equiptment you can, start small and work up.
  2. All you need is some Velcro straps and make you own.
  3. This is for 115 TG, 4.7, 115 FMJ, 148 PF, Avg. FPS 1294 Try 4.4 of TG with the 124s. should be close to the 115 load.
  4. Shoot we found tanks, trucks, weapons, food, supplies all kinds of stuff people lost. Not sure if they knew it was lost when we found it but we knew it was lost. We used to find oppresed stuff as well. Of course if it was being oppresed we set it free and it was so happy to be free it stayed with us. Dont forget as Tom Petty said Its good to be King.

    Max Ovl In 40 S&w

What is the max OVL for glock 40 S&W mag / chamber? I am running 1.125 for my Glock and 1.190 in my STI but I am thinking of developing a round to run in both. From puting the caliper to a Glock mag it looks like I can run a 1.145 but that dosent tell me if I will be able to full amag at that length. I would like some input to cut my experimentation time. Thanks
  11. You should be fine if you lube everything inside and out with a quality lube. The military uses Break Free or Cosmoline for long tearm storage but Cosmoline is real nasty stuff. I know people who have coated firearms with Mobil 1 and wraped them in seran (sp) wrap and stored them for several years with no ill effects I perfer dry type moisture displacing lubes. A goldenrod dehumidifyer would help even more if your friend has an extra plug in his garage
  12. Uh stop shooting because its cold? I am sorry I dont understand that concept. Do you stop shooting when it rains? Put on your long johns get off the couch and venture into the darkness. There is lots of EVIL fun to be had in the arctic darkness.
  13. TG 4.7, 1.18 ovl, STI 5", 60 to 75 deg., 167 to 171 PF
  14. Your Dillon shirt, hat and a pair of new shoes are setting on your cot. Please change as the Dillon black chopper will be flying over soon to take us all to the factory. Welcome to the cult.
  15. Walmart, crushed walnut 6 bucks for something like 10 pounds.
  16. I was thinking steak Is steak a vegitable? Michael have your mom pm me, my rates are resonable and I accept master card, visa and discover.
  17. I hate it but a friend of mine hid his gun room door with wood paneling. You know the cheap dark stuff form a big box store. He used 2 of those magnetic cabnit style catches and mortised hinges. It was very slick though, push on a section of the wall and the whole 4x8 sheet opened up. He used 2x2s to frame out the whole wall and frame up a door so to speak. Painted the 2x2s black so he could space the panels slightly and you couldnt tell. I like the cabnet, miror or large painting of dogs playing poker or a nude woman better though.
  18. If you are concerned about security on the open wall you might want to look at using rebar. In my old shop I took rebar laid out grid, 10" squares and welded it together, stood it up and bolted it to the wall studs floor and celing. Another option is cold rolled steel, you will have to hunt for it but it can be found. As for the walls what ever floats your boat, studs and drywall looks clean and you can put up shelves but that plastic T board is great but costs more, as for the celing drywall.
  19. So you like cutting things with a mill huh. With work like that I think you will do well Matt.
  20. If you want plated check Berrys.
  21. For some strange reason my 14 year old son still thinks I am cool and so do most of his friends. Not sure if because I have hot girlfriends, ride a fast, cool motorcycle, shoot guns, jump out of perfectly good airplanes. Might be that I like to blow things up and they are scared I might blow them up next. At any rate I am sure that will change in another year or too.
  22. Chills you need to get the updated 07 edition. It used to be #69 but they uped it to 77 so you get 8 more.
  23. Your smith is blowing smoke. When I build a pistol for someone I call them if I run into problems, most other smiths I know will keep you up to speed on whats going on with your pistol especially if there are any problems with the build. We all add time to compensate for delays. And yes multiple girlfriends would constitute an invocation of man law #77.
  24. Look at the dolpin it want to play.
  25. You have to have a license to drive but anyone can reproduce. Maybe we should license reproduction or at least go back to public exicutions.
