  1. OK ... Fingers in nose ... I should probably add "Tounge in cheek!"
  2. I think I'm going to start using index fingers touching respective nostrils ... Be interesting to see how that one could get "monkeyed."
  3. Forgive me ... I somehow thought you were avocating that 12 rounds were OK in a 10 round division because it's just a L1 match. Not sure where I pulled that in from ... perhaps I was confusing it with a different thread. However, the topic of this thread DID start with rounds loaded in production. (Just sayin'.) While I generally agree with your commendts on MDs at L1, I would add that a GOOD MD (even at L1) will occassionally check such things to help prevent his shooters from getting tripped up at L2 and higher matches. Failure to do so is, IMO, a disservice to his customers. There's one thing I hate having to tell a shooter at a L3 match when they use the excuse "That's not how we do it at home." and that's informing him his home club is doing things wrong. True as it may be, it's generally not well received.
  4. Magazine capacity restrictions, by divisions, apply at ALL levels of matches, including Level 1. I'm not going to reprint it all here, but if you doubt me, go read the rule book! This is something NROI has been trying to dirve home for several years now.
  5. In fairness, during a conversation I personally overheard between the late Michael Voigt and a shooter criticizing having placed back-to-back Nationals at Tulsa when two (yes, two) hurricanes went through back-to-back ... MV: "If you would have told me a year ago we were going to have two hurricanes go through during the Nationals I would have scheduled them for a different date." (Note: It's been a few years, so if I don't have the quote EXACT, it's pretty close.) I did, at the time, get a view of the schematics and plans for grading out the berms at the range. As I read them, the berms were supposed to drain from the backstops out to the road, then be collected and drained off to a pond lower down. What I observed, based on the waters trapped on the bays during those storms was that the drainage went towards the backstops and was supposed to be carried off by (what I believe) were small drainage pipes at the backstops of the berms. (They were NOT adequate!) Good design plan, poor execution in the construction thereof, IMO. Is it fixable? Sure! You got the $$$?
  6. There's also some bad blood between HQ and the owners at PASA ...
  7. Or worse ... "That's not how we do it at my home club ..."
  8. Forgive me ... The myth of "benefit of the doubt" is something NROI has tried VERY hard to get rid of for at least 10-15 years now. Every time it appears to finally have died, someone brings it up again - generally along the lines you espouse. The scoring of targets must be done as accurately and impartially as the RO can reasonably do it. Anything less is a disservice to the sport and, frankly, the individual competitors involved.
  9. Thanks Shred. I yield to your (slightly) longer experience in the sport.
  10. Wrong ... There is no such animal as "benefit of the doubt" when scoring in this sport. You must have evidence of two hits in order to score two hits. While you ask "How do you know the 2nd one didn't go through the same tear, [...]" I ask how do you prove it did. By surreptitiously rewarding ahooter A you wind up penalizing his closest competitor, shooter B. This is scoring 101. Sorry Shred, but this never existed in the rules to my recolection of the last 30 years ...
  11. @dmshozer1 ... Understood. It makes more sense now.
  12. If it was ONE shot I would only score ONE hit (A, in this case.) Or am I missing something in the OP?
  13. IIRC, DNROI ruled quite some time ago that no, revolvers cannot compete in CO. They do not have a slide to which the optic can be attached. Therefore, they cannot meet the requirement of the optic being mounted to the slide between the ejection port (another item a revolver does not have) and the rear of the gun.
  14. Both USPSA and IPSC 5.1.7 are worded the same on this ... 5.1.7 Competitor must use the same firearm and type of sights for all courses of fire in a match. [...] 5.1.3 defines "Types of Sights" as Open (i.e., iron sights) or Optical/Electronic (i.e., some type of dot). An Optical sight need not be the same brand, moa, or whatever ... but it must be an optical sight. That is, if you started with a dot, you must continue with a dot and cannot switch to open (iron) sights or vice versa. This is in part to prevent the "gaming" types of scenarios to which @ima45dv8 was referring earlier.
  15. Bottom line: Changing firearms without permission (in advance) from the Range Master* is subject to disqualification under 10.6 (Unsportsmanlike conduct.) This is the same for both IPSC and USPSA matches. *Note: The RM is the specific individual with the authority here, by rule. The RO lacks the authority to grant permission. As @ima45dv8 points out, there's a reason for this! If you're the RO and someone wants to change guns, CALL THE RM! If you find they changed guns and didn't have permission from the RM to so do, CALL THE RM! This is USLC folks ... Let the RM deal with it.
  16. No ... The rules under IPSC and USPSA are virtually identical on this point.
  17. Guy ... I know your pain. Me - 20 Dec Myocardial Infarction ... 23 Dec quintuple bypass ... Spent Christmas day in the ICU. Initially, the doctors did not expect me to survive long enough to have the bypass. I guess I was just too stubborn to die! I dropped 20 pounds (almost instantly), have a whole new diet and new meds ... Probably should have been taking some of those meds years ago! Hang in there. I'm told I'm doing GREAT. I'll know more this summer when I return to matches and see how much stamina I have!!! Good luck
  18. Substantially false. You might know this if you shot more with folks from around the world.
  19. Sarge ... Please keep in mind that "gun ownership" and "participation in USPSA" (or IPSC in the case of other regions) are most decidedly NOT linked. (If it were linked, I suppose NRA would have WELL over 100 million members ... They don't!) I remember at a couple of World Shoots several years back the Russian team (They were shooting Production) showed up with one gun. That's one gun which all 4 members of the team shared. The UK fielded a couple of teams even though private ownership of handguns has been illegal there for over 20 years. I've learned not to conflate national laws with the popularity of and participation in the sport. And, BTW, Russia technically hasn't been communist in roughly 3 decades. (Yeah, I'm about the same age as you ... My eyes roll at what I just typed too!) They're an oligarchy which, in many ways, is likely worse.
  20. There is no auditable/provable set of stats on this point to my knowledge ... certainly not for ALL member regions. It's somewhat of a quirk of how membership is tracked at IPSC. Nevertheless it has been quite apparent for a number of years that Russia has significantly more active members than does the US. Sad, but true.
  21. The fly in the ointment here is that USPSA bylaws, along with our corporate nonprofit declaration with the IRS expressly state one our goals to be participation in and training people for competition internationally.
