  1. Pretty easy. I had to remove very little material on the shoe. It almost dropped right in.
  2. Does anyone know how how much material has to be removed from an X5 slide to mount a Romeo 3? I've looked all over and can't figure out what it takes to get a Romeo 3 mounted directly to the slide.
  3. I like to use an old hotel key card to pry on the safety. The plastic doesn't Mar the finish and they're generally stiff enough to exert the force needed to pop the joint apart.
  4. Does anybody know if these new mags fit the gauge with aftermarket basepads? More specifically, 140mm with 4g TTI basepads.
  5. Well, I got this fit together. It was harder to keep the surfaces true on the barrel hood than I anticipated. It fits fairly tight, so I think it'll be alright. I'll probably call it good for tonight and tackle the slide/frame tomorrow night.
  6. Today is a very special day. All of my big parts are here. Now I can start fitting it all together. I cheated and picked up a slide from Brazos. I'm not sure if what I'm doing qualifies as gunsmithing, maybe gun-assembling or gun-fitting? I don't have the tooling, skill or knowledge to hang with the machining that you boys are cranking out. Thanks for not banning me from this thread yet!
  7. I haven't fitted the slide to the frame yet. As long as I don't have to take too much off the deck of the frame in that process, I think I'll be alright. If I need to take more than a couple thou off, I figure the ejector will drop down too far and the ejector pin notch will have to be re-drilled. That might turn the drilled notch into more of a slot, leaving the ejector to slop up and down on the ejector pin. Potentially.

    Henning Grips

I pulled a set off the prize table and now I'm debating buying the SP-01 to go with them, since they are so highly regarded. They're also 20% of the cost of the pistol, so I'm pretty sure I can convince myself I'm getting some sort of discount and/or deal.
  9. Speaking of impatience, I'm pretty sure I pooched my ejector by installing it a little prematurely.
  10. This is a project I picked up from the classifieds. Finished up everything I can till I get a slide, barrel, ect. I planned on spreading this build over the fall/winter. But, it's looking like impatience is gonna start putting a dent in my wallet here shortly.

Has anybody tried the new-ish Henning aluminum grips for the SP-01/Shadow 2? Any thoughts or opinions? Thanks!
  13. VZs look cool and are super grippy, but they are heavier than one would think. If your Single Stack gun is close to making weight, it could put you over.
  14. Not that this was your problem, but, I've had a grip frame bushing not fully seated cause certain magazines to seat hard and not drop properly.
  15. I think I'm gonna give this method a try. I'll try not to give myself an ulcer keeping everything true. Or get early onset arthritis in my hands from all the file work. Thanks again guys!
  16. Happened once to me. I cleaned up the metal and plastic surfaces and epoxied the tube into the housing. No problems since. Good luck!
  17. IMO, best assessment so far. I dig the "novelty" of this match. If I wanted to shoot the same major match over and over, I'd never leave PASA Park.
  18. The ones I have done needed around .005" to .009" removed from the bottom of the slide before it would start on the rails. Then about .003" to .006" off of the outside edges of the frame rails before it would slide on completely. I would tap it on with a plastic/nylon hammer, you wat it pretty tight at first. Then I would use lapping compound to smooth everything out. Use a new endmill as it will leave the best finish so you don't have too much work left to do by hand. How do you guys go about removing material from the bottom of the slide rails? Is the a way to do it with files and stones or is this better left to a mill? Thanks!
  19. If you've got spare cash, beater mags are never a bad idea. Abuse them in practice and dry fire and don't feel bad about it.
  20. Yup. A Sig is tough to beat for the money in the single stack game.
  21. This is the broken bushing that was causing my grip to move away from my frame, causing my hammer follow issue. Not that it matters here any more, this might help someone else diagnose a problem in the future.
  22. Sorry, it only took me a year and a half to see your question. In regards to that, I like it a lot. Lots of people told me it was going to be too front heavy/too heavy in general. I haven't experienced any of that. The gun feels nice and quick in my hand. I hope you weren't waiting on this answer, because I'm sure it wasn't worth the wait.
  23. I think I still have the old bushing. I'll try to find it and post a picture when i get home.
