  1. I've got a 16" rifle gas and it's so borderline that I absolutely know that a 14.8" would not work with my setup. I imagine the only reason for that barrel is fulltime suppressed use.
  2. Formulas aren't worth much. I've had 14.5's as fast as 18's and 24's barely faster than 20's. Every barrel is different, some are fast, some are slow.
  3. Standard procedure for me is to buy whatever I want and expect to shave high points off the gas block and ream out the handguard. Even when they fit I'm usually not thrilled with the amount of clearance. Steve133 is right, lowering your reciprocating mass without also lowering the amount of gas running it will make you more overgassed and can make the gun very snappy.
  4. I've ran into 223 with two small flash holes instead of one central hole, can't remember the headstamp though.
  5. I'm pretty sure face books are what my mom keeps in the closet. Also often called photo albums. Really not sure whats so interesting about them.
  6. The OP in this thread is the guy running the show: I'm not sure how often he checks in here but you can always try his facebook. I can't help you there though, I don't do FB. Last time I shot a match at this range they used 3GN ish rules, not sure about this match. The longest bay is 600 yards deep, I think the nearest hotel is about 25 minutes away.
  7. Kinda like shooting my 223 at 500 yards. If the load is reasonably accurate and the target isn't tiny then I'm not sure what all the fuss is about.
  8. Not terrible, about 3.5' drop with my barely minor load. It's all of 22' to get to 400 yards though.
  9. No, just too far a drive and a broken leg to go with it. It does sound like a good time though.
  10. Alright guys, it's time to give up. RJH is a patriot and the rest are all communists if you think we should be governed in any way by rules.
  11. Thats great the LaRue mounts are working for you, but you should still throw the Strike Eagle on the rifle and see if it works better than the Razor.
  12. Fair enough. For the record, I've never seen a handicap system that didn't ruin a competitive sport.
  13. That's gonna be the easiest way to troubleshoot. Beats sending parts back and forth to the manufacturer unnecessarily.
  14. Yeah thats a terrible target for shooting with a red dot. The target dots should be bigger but more importantly have to be a color that contrasts with the dot. I just went and re-read your OP, when you say lots of misses on half size targets at 50yds what kind of targets are we talking? Skinny sammies or mini poppers or like mini IPSC's? Offhand rifle shooting at paper targets in matches is more about confidence in your rifle and not overthinking it than it is about accuracy.
  15. I've heard plenty about erratic zero issues with both QD mounts as well as vertically split rings, and you've got both. But your issue sounds so extreme that the scope does sound like the problem. Got a spare scope to test the rifle/mount with?
  16. I get the travel to the range aspect, I'm lucky that mine is just out the backdoor. The rain part isn't a good excuse though, those three weeks where in the spring and included rain, snow, 25+ mph winds, blinding sunlight behind the target and fishbowl looking mirage. Thats part of why it was great practice. There's definitely benefit at 25 yard practice but you better be shooting small targets and it's a waste to use anything bigger than a 22 rimfire. We also don't know where you're at as far as accuracy goes. We all have to start at the beginning with the fundamentals if we want to shoot good groups, but once you have that down it's time to get away from bench/prone shooting and apply those fundamentals in tough positions.
  17. Not really, I accidentally pick up tons of 40 brass at matches, all the water that your comment didn't hold soothed my sensitive feelers. What your talking about will just change the way things are labeled, nothing else. With a few exceptions M and GM class will just be synonymous with PCC or Open.
  18. Depends on your situation. Some of my best practice has come from shooting 5 rounds a day, every day for three weeks at 400 yards, no matter the weather and using a different position, barricade or prop everytime. You'll learn more that way than picking one nice day to go sit at a bench or go prone and hammer a target over and over.
  19. And that is good how? And relates to an equipment based (vs. skill based) discussion in what way?
  20. Now you're trolling your own thread? After your comment about how $300 shotguns shoot with $10000 guns in clay sports (which you also claim to know little about) I think the driving force behind your proposal is becoming obvious.
