  1. I think a G22 open gun would be fun. But I'm the weird 40 open guy...
  2. I've loaded on a SDB for 6 or 7 years and it's been a great machine. Never regret the purchase and never wish I had a larger machine. I shoot under 5000 rounds per year. I load between 200-600 in one session depending on the number of matches I have coming up.

    Magwells

I prefer the shape of the Dawson Ice. I have the original, standard weight version and the super heavy version as well. Gotta say, the super heavy works well with the G24 and G35 for Limited/L10. ETA: Full disclosure, it's the only magwell I've played with on a Glock. My favorite magwell on the 2011 was the stainless steel SV magwell. That wasn't terribly large either, but had a good angle for hitting mag changes. I had tried the STI and the Dawson Ice before on the 2011's.
  4. +1 to ChuckS. Rainier 135's are good to 1300 fps. Check out the 40 open thread.
  5. Lighter slide cycled faster. Someday I need to cut about 2 oz from the G24.
  6. You know, I shot the G35 today and actually might like it better than the 24
  7. No idea. It was that way when I bought it. Call Rich at Canyon Creek and ask. He is RIIID here on the forum.
  8. I'm thinking 14lb as well. Don't remember the name of this test, but try this. Verify the gun is empty, no mag. Rack the slide and pull the trigger. Keep the trigger pinned back and point the muzzle straight up. Pull the slide back (downward) and slowly let the recoil spring close the slide (upward). If the gun will go back into battery, it should be a safe recoil spring weight. If you can get the slide to hang back, the spring is too light.
  9. Extractor, extractor depressor plunger, extractor depressor plunger spring and firing pin stop installed properly and in good condition?
  10. You found the loading manual on Ramshot's website, so that's good. At this point, all I can say is show up to a match with 300 or so of your reloads, 4 or 5 magazines and sign up for Open division. If you work up to 5.5 grains of Silhouette, you could probably declare Major power factor legitimately. Most importantly, Be Safe and Have Fun!!!
  11. DO NOT look at a burn rate chart, take the powder next door to the one you have, and apply the same load data. Note there is no scale on the burn rate chart. They are just listed in order from fastest to slowest, and testing methods vary so the various charts are in slightly different order. Two powders may be very similar, but the one next to those could be drastically different. To use a burn rate chart, determine where you want to go - faster or slower. Go up or down the chart and pick a powder (based on a manufacturer you like, or if you recall someone recommending it, etc.) Then, look up load data specific for that powder and bullet combo. Go with the starting load and work up slowly. I still caution you about using lead in a ported barrel. It's going to be a bitch to clean out. At least with a compensator the ports are large and easy to get a tool in there to dig the lead out. Not so with magnaport style barrel ports.
  12. I haven't looked through this in a long long time, but there may be helpful info for you here. http://www.precisionbullets.com/PDF/maashl40sw.pdf Also, keep in mind that the threaded barrel will also exclude you from production. Same goes for Limited division, until the end of this year. New Limited division rules go into effect on 01Jan that would allow an extended, non ported barrel.
  13. What's special about the 2014 date? Is that the World Shoot?
  14. Ditto. I tried Silhouette in my 40 open gun. 9.0 gr and a 135gr Rainier plated bullet. It did not work as well as a Power Pistol load with the same bullet.
  15. +1 on lots of dry fire practice. You must have confidence in your gear, and the only thing that will build confidence is experience. The ghost is a good holster. Just be sure the gun is latched in before letting go to set the lock. Or, do the two hand method as mentioned above to be 100% sure. Remember, re-holstering is not "on the clock" so take your time and do it safely. PS: I just noticed that you're from KC. I'm from there, but live north of Seattle now. Where do you shoot USPSA there?
  16. My first thought is that you don't want to be running lead bullets through a ported barrel, assuming you have the factory barrel in it. You'll weld the ports shut in no time. Also, the ported barrel will put you in open division. The first thing I would do would be to get an aftermarket, factory-length, non-ported barrel. I have KKM and Barsto barrels in my Glocks. Or, you could snap up a Glock 35 here in the Classified ads here on the forum - assuming you want to stick with the 40 cal. That's my favorite cartridge for the gun games, so that's one vote for 40. The next thing I notice is that load data on Ramshot's website gives a starting powder charge of 5.3 grains of Silhouette for a 180 gr lead bullet. The velocity listed gives a 161 Power Factor. That's a bit too much for what you're trying to accomplish. Since I don't use Silhouette or lead bullets, that's as much advice as I can give. If you wanted to try moly coated bullets with a faster powder, which I recommend, there's plenty of reading in this forum on that topic. Good luck.
  17. Gunbroker is full up with 96 E2's and they usually have a few Vertec's: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=302092019 here's another one: http://summitgunbroker.com/96_Vertec.html Thanks, but those are not G models. I don't have the cash for any new guns anyway.
  18. I had one that I shot for a few years. I sold it and could get it back if I wanted to. As a .40 shooter, if I was going back to Beretta, it would be the 96G Vertec for me. Really would like to get my hands on one someday.
  19. Mine was pretty well tricked out by my friend that previously owned it. Grip stipple by Boresight Solutions. Dawson Super Heavy Ice Magwell. KKM Barrel. Melted in Bo-Mar style rear sight by Canyon Creek. Plain black Dawson front sight. JP mag release button. Glockworx fulcrum trigger and Vanek ejector housing with set screws for both pre- and over-travel. I'm not even sure what connector is in it, but it works fine. I think it has a titanium firing pin plunger. I think the striker is factory. I transferred a THE Accessories extended tungsten guide rod from another Glock. It's the G35 length. I use Dawson mag extensions, but I have one Arredondo as well. The only thing I would like to do to it would be to shave about 2 oz from the slide. It's a bit heavy and slow. Happy with it so far. I need to get a good pic of it to display. Well, here's one:
  20. 10" Plates? Shooting at your club might give me an ego boost, but a disadvantage at a major match using 8" plates.

    17 or 34?

Just to be sure the OP understands, this is true for IPSC (outside the US). We don't know where the OP lives, and although he did say IPSC, some folks use IPSC and USPSA interchangeably sometimes, which adds confusion. masterww: The G34 is approved for USPSA Production Division, but not for matches which use the international IPSC rules.
  22. Appendix D4, 21.2b. A slide may be modified specifically for the purpose of installing sights, and for no other purpose.
  23. Re: Stage design. Not a good idea to have a paper no-shoot swinging in front of a scoring target. There is a chance for shoot throughs, which can slow scoring and possibly end in a reshoot if the RO cannot determine the proper score.
  24. Same capacity as a .40 open, but much more expensive brass. It can be competitive. You could do it, but I wouldn't at any price b/c I wouldn't care to reload it.
  25. I had an SV and another custom build. Both ran great.
