  1. If possible keep your arms and shoulders and head locked in position and rotate at the hips knees and ankles. Then there are the "other" targets "THEY" set to force you into impossible positions. You must practice these too and learn to shoot all wrapped up. I shot one low port at the Nationals last year lying on my back, shooting between my feet.
  2. Had the same problem. They will loosen up as the anodize coating wears off. I imagine they wanted a tight fit and didn't allow enough for the thickness of the anodize.
  3. I use the Wilson flatwire springs in mine so it necessitates the use of a short guide rod and is smooth probably because the flatwire spring tends to compress in linear fashion and the round ones tend to pop out to the side and rub.
  4. If you are canting the gun to shoot the gun will shoot left with a left cant and right with a right cant. If you want it to hit dead on it must be at a 90 to gravity. The sights angle the barrel up to accommodate for bullet drop at 90 to gravity so when it points left the barrel is pointing left.
  5. I've settled on a mix of 25% FP-10 and 75% Royal Purple synthetic engine assembly lube. The stuff is slick and near impossible to wipe or burn off. Fouling wipes off easily.
  6. I did a trigger job on my newest 1911 a RIA. It has a heavy steel trigger and the lightweight plastic one hadn't showed up yet so I shot it at Tuesday Night Steel with the stock trigger. Well with the light match sear spring and STI hammer and dressing the sear so the hammer didn't cam it would double and triple (then it jammed). I installed the new trigger (STI plastic) and took it to the range and it's fine now. I believe that the inertia of the heavy trigger would trip the sear as the pistol rocked in recoil. The lightweight one is fine.
  7. Most RO's me included go out of their way not to DQ anyone. I've observed shooters from other countries who do not or barely speak English react to the commands only because they have memorized them and it's probably the only English they know. It's important to use only the commands in the book so they know what to do. They aren't going to be smart or cynical just confused. We did have to DQ one foreign shooter because after the range was called clear it was pointed out that he hadn't engaged a target and he immediately drew his gun to engage the target. He thought we had told him to engage the target. The DQ was upheld even though there was a language barrier.
  8. We have many shooters come through our club from many different countries and English is not their first language or they have memorized the range commands in the book and that's about it. It's real important to stick with what's in the book or get strange looks or end up DQ'ing someone.
  9. Glad you had fun. It seems very intimidating at first but the type of people who participate make it easy for a newcomer to feel at home.
  10. I have them and they work well. The only thing I did was permanently glue the ball because they kept sliding around. The knob was a problem once getting hung in the snow fence when I brushed against a USPSA "wall".

    CZ P09 barrel swap?

Generally the 9mms will have a narrower cut in the breech face and the 40 won't go into it.
  12. +1 It's a glock. It's made to be defensive pistol. You're lucky that the groups are that tight. I've definitely had some that wouldn't even come close. Sounds like you got a good one. Knock the sight over a tiny bit and shoot the hell out of that gun! This is the answer. I'm amazed that the lack of complexity of the problem is generating some of the answers it is.... And I'm an Engineer who get accused of ever-engineering things! Yes, it's a mass produced gun. You buy a Chevy don't expect it to be built like a Cadillac. LOL
  13. What he said. ^^^^^^^^^^. Be sure to have fun.
  14. Looks like you did a pretty good job overall. All this takes some time on the learning curve. I'm thinking that you need to direct more of your focus to the targets and a little less on the sights. Visualizing the stage before you shoot will keep you on plan too.
  15. Interesting. So it is an advantage to shoot major. Seems like it would be more "fair" to score major/minor as different divisions. Most forms of competition seem to lump similar categories together to compete against one another. No beef with it though, their rules so that's the way it is. It's your choice as how you "game" the stages and choosing between major and minor is one. If you are recoil sensitive but incredibly accurate and fast minor would be the way to go. One reason I like USPSA is that it's not "fair". There are definite winners and losers. It's a mental and physical challenge and you have the freedom to choose how to solve the shooting problems and I love it.
  16. DVC (diligentia, vis, celiratis) are the principals behind the scoring. If you have trained to handle a major caliber you are rewarded for it.
  17. Aluminum, copper or nylon will not hurt the chamber if you wanted to try a pick made of them. Kroil usually will penetrate and loosen about anything too.
  18. I actually have a little brass hook to use with a slide hammer to catch and pull things out of recesses with. A little Kroil to loosen things and some gentle prodding usually works.
  19. I'm thinking 10" rounds weigh about 8 pounds so the shepherd's hooks should work. (3/8" plate weighs about .1 pound per square inch)
  20. If it's really stuck I'm thinking a 9mm tap of some sort may thread into it enough so you can thread a bolt into it and tap it out with a rod from the muzzle.
  21. I have arthritis too. When my thumb is too weak to work I use my weak hand thumb to release the safety. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCn4F4AQpldY3k1FOSTM3XdA
  22. Congratulations. Now you're officially a true gamer. LOL
  23. Right to left for transitions from target to target for no apparent reason. Right to left for transitions from array to array because my left knee is a mess and it's quicker to push off with the right one.
  24. It's interesting that the original premise presented in this discussion was gun related and immediately switched to ammo. Here's the original quote made. "That wasn't the intent of production. Production is so shooters can show up with their stock guns and compete".
