  1. 2 port http://www.ebay.com/itm/Steel-TANKER-Muzzle-Brake-9MM-thread-Jam-nut-AP-MFG-/331705623016?hash=item4d3b3221e8:g:jVYAAOSw0JpV5Naj No leading and easy to clean. Have not tested its effectiveness but seems to run well for me.
  2. Built my son a dedicated 22 using taccom parts (barrel, bolt, pressure plug). They work well and are reasonably priced. You can most likely build an upper for less than an off the self cmmg etc. Put together a basic lower for it and the only issue I ran into was it needed to use a JP reduced power hammer spring as it would occasionally double using a milspec hammer spring. You can shim S&W mags to work with a standard lower. The S&W mags have worked much better than the black dog machine mags. Also the new S&W sport ar22 is a pretty good deal. Bang for the buck it would be hard to beat.
  3. Little bit of Freedom 9mm I have used always worked great for me. Out of about 2500 rnds 1 round was seated too deep. Have shot their new rounds, reloads, 115gn and 124gn. They all went bang. They supposedly quit using stepped cases awhile back and if you do not reload it doesn't matter what type of case they use. If you are not hung up on shooting 115gn Federal 100 packs of aluminum case at Walmart work well and cost about the same as Freedom. For your rifle PMC bronze or Wolf gold can work well and if you buy 1k you can often get decent pricing. The new M&P 22 rifles have dropped a lot in price. At $350 it would pay for itself if you shot 1600 rnds of 223 for short range practice (.08 vs .30 per round). Have seen some good shooters finish well with Tula in rifles and pistols. Cheap steel case didn't seem to hold them back at all.
  4. https://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/dept/ar-15/ar-handguards?brand=guntec-usa&itemsperpage=30&currentpage=1 $60-100 Used one on my son's ar 22. Nice enough for what it is. Claims to be made in the US. Is a smaller profile and would require a low profile gas block. Would absolutely use the 9" for an sbr 9mm.
  5. Haven't shot USPSA, but in every rifle event that I have shot with flags, RO orders to empty the chamber, etc before you place the flag in after the stage. Similar to a pistol before you put it back in a holster. Other than the first stage the RO should have no doubt that the rifle is empty. Same as a pistol if you pulled it from a holster and already had one in the chamber at make ready wouldn't it be a DQ? Cold range rules should still apply. Sure an RO could demand that you place the flag in the chamber but not sure why. Once the flag is in, the gun is in a visibly safe condition and the bolt and firing pin are blocked from the chamber no matter if the flag protrudes in the the chamber or not. Have always thought this style flag looked like a good solution and seem to work well for the people I have seen run them, http://www.brownells.com/shooting-accessories/training-safety-gear/chamber-safety-flags/safety-device-prod56491.aspx
  6. Not dry fire but a great concise description of approach shooting that made a huge difference for me.
  7. Not cheap and out of stock but if you do not mind a more complex set up http://micromoa.com/625-diameter-govnah/ should be as durable as it gets. 3 position gas port plate blanks are $20 and should be the only wear item. You would probably need to drill them out yourself to set up for optimal gas. . Though about using one on my last build but wasn't interested in the set up and not a fan of set screw blocks. http://www.weaponoutfitters.com/parallax-tactical-super-light-low-profile-steel-front-adjustable-gas-block-625.html shows the paralax in stock.
  8. I shoot a 17 in 3 gun and it is an okay pistol. For $500 it is great pistol. A set of fiber optic sights, some trigger work, 5 round mag extensions and maybe a magwell would be all I would spend on it for 3 gun. If you have a 17 make sure you shoot a 34 before you spend the extra money. $1400 for the agency conversion could be put into a much better pistol for 3 gun than a glock. If you get a chance try out a double stack 1911/2011. The weight/balance and trigger in some of those guns when shooting 9mm is miles beyond a glock. CZs and some of the clones aren't too bad either. Like my glock but wrapping up $1900 into a pistol for 3 gun opens better options.
  9. Posvar, what bolt catch is that on your JP?
  10. http://www.accutact.com/anglesight.html just use one of these to shoot around barricades
  11. Midway sells a couple of their own brand carbine cases that look decent and are reasonably priced $25-50. They have built in mag pouches for ar mags. You could just double up and put two pistol mags in each slot.
  12. I noticed it on the website the other day. http://taylorfreelance.com/shopping/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=15&products_id=172 looks like he also updated the 40 extension to this newer style.
  13. What is the disadvantage of using an anti-seize or grease? I think it is the dissimilar metals not heat that you are using the coating for. The anodize of the aluminum and something like a melonite barrel may help keep them from bonding on a 9mm.
  14. I was just trying to direct v1911 to a possible flat trigger alternative that may work with with 9mm. Appreciate the replies and hopefully they will help him out.
  15. Is the JP armageddon 9mm compatible? http://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/triggers-parts/triggers/ar-15-m16-ez-trigger-system-w-armageddon-trigger-prod81351.aspx?avs|Manufacturer_1=j+p+enterprises
  16. Colt lowers have the bolt catch on the lower. If you use a standard carbine length buffer you will get more than an 1" of over travel that hammers the catch and can lead to premature breakage. On the colt style you can use an extended buffer or spacer. You can buy or make your own spacer and close the gap down between the bolt face when fully retracted and the bolt catch. Your glock style NFA lower is set up to work with their upper which is where they put their bolt catch. May want to call them and see if a bolt catch will work in the lower before you try installing one. Not sure if the lower bolt catch will hit the glock mag correctly and if you would need a standard AR bolt catch or extended colt 9mm. My guess would be they put it in the upper for a reason. They also sell an extended heavy buffer and a spacer. Neither is very expensive. You would only need one or the other.
  17. Only been to Talladega once, but I did not notice much onsite food. If I was shooting a 2 day event there and planned to be there most of one or two days it would be nice to have some food trucks or catering available.
  18. Saw this a few months back at a match. Had been trying to figure out a way to use a simple golf cart like this after seeing a few at yard sales for around $10.
  19. Talladega CMP may be worth checking out. It would be a drive from Atlanta, but could be worth it. Super nice people with an incredible facility. They have a good number of bays and pretty sure you can use them with the daily entry fee.
  20. " Any firearm that begins a stage from the low ready shall require the shooter to start with the finger off the trigger. Said firearm may start with hammer cocked and, if applicable, with the safety off. For holster starts see section 8 number 8." That is from the steel challenge rule set. Seems reasonable. Table starts or any start that results in picking up the gun should probably be required to start with the safety on.
  21. Just as a quick reference the standard PSA 9mm bolt is 3.25 long and weighs 5.5oz. Made a spacer from a pvc board material that was roughly .625 thick. It worked well but still left a large gap between the bolt and catch. Then cut down an extra carbine buffer and its bumper to .875. That leaves about .125 between the bolt and catch. Gun has functioned well with either spacer. It is a PSA colt lower using a spinta bolt. As a side note 7 quarters should measure out to be .483 per the google.
  22. Had a hard time finding a decent looking (ie just a brake) reasonably priced 1/2 36. Not sure $100+ brakes are worth it and wanted more than a bird cage. Bought the item below and it has worked well. No problem with the timer picking it up. Finish could be nicer, but didn't expect much more at this price point. The JP is a nice traditional brake worth a look as well. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Steel-TANKER-Muzzle-Brake-9MM-thread-Jam-nut-AP-MFG-/331705623016?hash=item4d3b3221e8:g:jVYAAOSw0JpV5Naj
  23. I like pmags with the window. That way if I reload between stages, I do not have to unload the mag before loading it to make sure it has the right number of rounds.
  24. New barrel left on front porch yesterday. 8" closer to the house would have kept it out of the afternoon thunder storm. Box almost tore when i picked it up. It was so wet that water ran out of the box when I picked it up. Thankfully barrel was in a sealed plastic bag and looks great.
