  1. Lee FCDs rule!! I went from "works most of the time" ammo and constant futzing with the seating/crimp die to "works all the time" ammo and all my dies went to "set-and forget".
  2. Thanks. I'm pretty sure that Tommy used a bracket for the Benelli or some such and modified it. I'm going to go ahead and "take the plunge" and order the dedicated part from Arredondo, just have to get through all the Christmas stuff first.
  3. Outside of the AMU, and maybe some other countries' equivalents, I doubt there's more than a few dozen people across all the competitive disciplines that are actually shooting matches as their full-time "paying the bills" job.
  4. Well, no wonder I can't find a picture of one. Arredondo might be waiting for my order to actually make one. LOL I guess I'll have to guinea pig this one myself.
  5. I see that Arredondo makes it, and I even found it in stock... but I can't even find a picture of it actually on the SLP. I'm kicking various options for an open gun around, thanks for the help.
  6. FNH's other 5.56 barrels are all chrome lined.... makes sense from a production standpoint.
  7. My open rifle has an Eotech and a Nikon 2-8. I end up taking probably 90% of shots with the Eotech (between training with the social rifles and shooting Limited and HM I'm very, very comfortable with the system). I use the scope for long shots, or really small targets. No way I'd try anything without 1X capability if I could only have one optic. I can't even make 1.5X work fast (some people can though).
  8. I tried the Eotech/Magnifier thing a few years back. Couldn't make it work for me. Eye relief can be tricky, you don't get much magnification, and the dot gets bigger when you need it to get smaller.
  9. Learn to haul metric tons of gear across shooting range facilities and hotel parking lots. Learn to rebuild guns with a multitool on the tailgate of somebody else's truck. Learn to use cleaning patches and duct tape to hold a thumbnail on until the end of the match. Everything else will just come naturally.
  10. So was the MD the one SO'ing you? That's kind of a fail right there. There needs to be at least 2 "layers" of officiating... if the SO makes a call, he/she pretty much has to stick with it. That's why you have a Rangemaster or MD to which to appeal.
  11. Back then everyone shot 125 power factor and the speedloader guns didn't stand a chance. The 625 pretty much ruled and the little lite weight L frame 646 was becoming the must have gun, a little L frame with a Ti cylinder shooting 125 pf was a dream. After the split and increase to 165 for the clip guns the 646 didn't work so well. The lite weight made recoil a bit harsh and the Ti cylinder had extraction problems at the higher power. The 625 and 610 became the most popular in ESR after the split. I got home from a year overseas, bought a S&W 610 and all the gear, and was ready to jump into SSR full-bore. About 2 weeks later, before I could even shoot a match, the rulebook changed and I shot ESR by myself.
  12. Well, IDPA HQ seems to think they should keep getting membership dues just for showing up, why shouldn't ESR shooters think they deserve a trophy?
  13. The lower receiver is the "firearm". Doesn't matter if the upper is attached or not. Yes, but if the rifle as sold by JP as "complete", JP is on the hook for 11% of the whole gun. Sold just as a lower, they are only responsible for 11% of the lower. The firearms excise tax is brutal and ridicoulsly complex. I went to a half-day seminar at SHOT a few years ago put on by BATFE.... and I swear I knew more about what to do before the class than after.
  14. That's what I picked. For every time you might have to shoot out past 250 yards after enough shots to heat up a barrel where a thin profile might hurt you, you'll probably have to transition between a couple hundred close targets where that light thin barrel will help you.
  15. There were a couple of more shooters at the 2013 Nats (without 8-shot guns) than in 2014 (with the 8 shooters). The stand alone (with Single Stack) Nationals did more for the division than moving to 8-shooters, in my opinion.
  16. Sorry for the derail, but are the folks using this scope happy with it? The reviews I can find online are pretty mixed.
  17. I just installed Vodoo Innovations 16.5" Ultralightweight a couple of days ago... I hope it's good, it's certainly light. Coming from a stainless 20" HBAR... my rifle feels like a toy now. Going to try to get out to do some testing next week.
  18. I just installed a SLR Sentry 7 yesterday on my new Voodoo 16.5" ultralightweight rifle-length gas barrel. Hopefully I'll get to the range to test everything next week.
  19. Any of those should mean an instant "STOP" range command, right? It's an "extra layer of safety" that doesn't provide an iota of extra safety, and penalizes certain types of gun.
  20. You aren't going to thrust your hand into a blue bucket and bring a pistol out as fast as you possibly can. That's a huge difference. Honestly, a 1911-style gun, even without a grip safety, would be perfectly safe sitting in a proper holster with the thumb safety off. It only becomes "less safe" when you start trying to draw it, especially since you're likely trying to do it in a hurry.
